The only reason why I am giving this place a 1 star is because I need to select something. We just had a wedding at this venue. And although the room itself was very nice, most of the staff was not. Most of the staff was inadequately trained and/or very unfriendly. We had several issues with the staff throughout the night from the lack of service, to the grossly over-priced drinks not to mention the difficulty to even get service. Let's just start with I am not the type of person to write a bad review BUT... I would 100% not recommend working with the folks who run this event center. The center itself has great potential in the beautiful town of Brookings. Unfortunately, my sisters wedding had many many issues that are still trying to be resolved. (Her wedding was June 11....) First of all, the event center was dirty when we got there to set up on Friday. We were told to decorate around it and it was get vacuumed that evening (spoiler alert: it did not...) My dad, stepdad, and several of my sisters GUESTS had to come into the dirty event center to clean the morning of the wedding and move tables and chairs that the staff said would get moved. The food we had was refrigerator cold... the whole head table ate cold pasta. We heard from several other guests that the food was cold or lukewarm at best. None of the tables were bussed/cleaned. The head table still had our dirty plates, cups, and FOOD on the table the next morning... then when my sister brought up this issue the owners insinuated that the tables were "mostly cleaned" and she was making stuff up (she has photos.) A piece of wood trim fell off of the wall and hit a CHILD. My sister and her husband were basically called liars for bringing up the several issues they endured on the night of their wedding. They had an absolutely beautiful day in Brookings and they wouldn't change it for the world, but at this time I would suggest finding a more customer service friendly location to host your wedding! read more

I am not one to leave a bad review, but this was THE WORST service I could possibly imagine. Absolute nightmare. The person in charge of the event venue was unresponsive, rude and disrespectful. I would not recommend this venue to anyone. From setup the evening before to the end of the event, the experience was absolutely miserable. We did not get what we paid for. List of issues: Microphone never worked; Had to ask the bartender at the neighboring bar for assistance locating cords necessary to make the projector work as none were provided (she was SUPER helpful and kind, but understandably frustrated as this is NOT her job); Event manager ignored calls; Internet password was never provided, though requested multiple times, and I had to run our webinar off my phone's hotspot; Beverage service not provided until several hours after when it was supposed to have been there; Event manager accused us of not paying the deposit, despite confirming it was received several weeks prior via email, and required me to contact our bank to get a copy of the cashed check; Food was terrible; Staff was rude - when mentioning that drinks weren't out until almost 4 hours after they were scheduled to be out, was told "well, they are there now; what's the problem?" Speaker was interrupted by event manager dropping off a bill for "immediate" payment; was informed "we need payment before I leave for the day day" and "I am leaving soon"; Staff was loud in the kitchen area and EVERYTHING they said was heard by our meeting group and interrupted our presenters; NO event staff was present the night before during set up or even the morning of the event. When we called the event manager the morning of the event, was informed "I don't work until 10:00." If an event begins at 7:30 a.m., that is not acceptable. In short, the venue has potential, but until they get some competent staff I would not wish this venue and all it's issues on my worst enemy. read more

This is a beautiful event center connected to the Comfort Suites on the edge of Brookings. The hotel was very nice. We ate at the Alehouse and had good service and good food, this is where the positive experience ended. My daughters wedding reception was held in the event center on a Saturday late afternoon. Saturday morning friends and myself started to vacuum and move tables because that hadn't been done yet and we were told Friday it would be done by Friday night. At the reception dinner the food was cold, room temperature was hot and there wasn't enough wait staff to clear the tables. We used the center Sunday morning around 11:00 to open gifts and the tables were still full of dirty dishes with food on them, empty beer bottles and other garbage. When my daughter reached out to the owners about all of the things that went wrong and the fact there was nobody present the night of the event they placed blame on all of their employees and the fact they were being sabotaged. They offered no refund for poor service and low quality food, rather they insinuated things weren't that bad and took zero responsibility and even told my daughter she owed additional money for the event center. I think the event center could be a very good venue but until management takes responsibility be very cautious before you sign any contract or book your event. read more
