Wow... This has to have been one of the most ridiculous and bad dining experiences we've ever had. In Schleswig, the Wikingturm is ever present on the skyline. The tower, filled with small apartments, has a restaurant/cafe on the 26th floor. The wife and I decided we had to check it out, mostly for the view. When we arrive at 1:50, we were told the kitchen was closing at 2pm, which is not listed anywhere stating this is the case. The nice waitress, who seemed like a powerless student working a summer job, asked the kitchen if it was okay for us to be seated. We were seated at a table away from the window, and even though there were two vacant four tops next to the window, we were told we couldn't sit there because they were "reserved." When another table left, five minutes after we were seated and before we ordered, we asked if we could move there (I mean, we're here for the view), and we were told by the waitress, "Well, we have a lot of people coming in, you know..." And I asked, "But the kitchen is closed, right?" To which she hesitantly responded, "...yes." So we were stuck with our table. It's worth noting, in the hour or so we were there... The two vacant four tops that were "Reserved," were vacant the entire time. Of course. We ordered the Schnitzel and the a fish platter. We also ordered a beer and a limonade (which was actually a 7up). The waitress didn't bring our drinks... And when she started bringing us the cutlery for the main dishes, we asked her if we could get them and she apologized as of she forgot and went and got them. Our table was right next to the bar where a man, who seemed like he ran the show, softly under his breath, apologized the the delay in drinks. When the food came, it was fine. The mustard sauce was fine. The fish was fine. The schnitzel was fine. It was fine. Nothing to wrote home about. We decided to go for dessert, and order a slice of Black Forest Cake with a glass of Port wine and a glass of Cream Sherry. Whwn the bartender/guy-who-seemed-to-be-in-charge received the drink order, he had to ask another older waitress which was the sherry and which was the Port. Initially when the drinks came out, the Port was lighter in color than the sherry, which we took to be the sign of a nice tawny Port... But after tasting it, we were confused. Thanks to where we were sitting though, I could see that I was given white Port. Now, if you care enough to order Port, white Port is not the same was Port. Period. And guess what... I don't like white Port. Whatever. The cake was nice and we enjoyed it. When we went to pay, we were told they only accept cash. Good thing we had just hit the ATM or I would have no idea where we would have had to go to get cash out. We were told they can't accept card because they cannot get internet in the tower... C'mon, the thing is basically an antenna. We also paid way too much in comparison to what we got. We paid more here for two people than we did at another restaurant with the same caliber and portion sizes the day before for three people. I also must say, in the time that we were there, we saw them turn away no less than 20 people due to the kitchen being closed. IT'S A SATURDAY... IN SCHLESWIG! WHY IS YOUR KITCHEN CLOSED?! read more
