Let's just say he had an INCREDIBLE time! They went this past weekend, end of July, and they caught massive striper! My dad said the biggest one he caught was 34 lbs and took 10 minutes to reel in. Wow! I now know exactly what I'll be giving my dad each year for his bday, a charter with Captain Mike. The bot had a nice indoor area with a few seating options as well as a bathroom. They gave us a quick safety rundown and we were off. While Bill was driving the boat to our first spot James gave us a rundown and said we would start of bottom fishing for sea bass and then make our way to some striper fishing. We made it to our first spot and dropped our lines. Some of us had never been deep sea fishing so James helped us to make sure we were doing it correctly. It started off slow but towards the end of the trip we had to hide in the boat cabin to bait the hooks! All kidding aside, each time we pulled up our line and we're missing bait, James would practically run to add more bait to the line so we got in all the fishing we could. James helped land all of our catches and even filleted everything for us on the way back to shore. Bill was very knowledgeable about exactly where to go and where the fish were hiding. The whole trip was so much fun. Bill and James helped make it a great trip, offering to take pictures for us, letting us ride up at the top of the boat and answering any questions we had. I can't wait to come back and fish with them again!

Be prepared for a workout, it's one set right after another. By the end of pulling in average 20-30 pound Stripers I had nothing left in my arms. None of our group of four had ever gone deep sea fishing, but Steve drilled us like a fishing boot camp. Snap! Snap! Quarter turn! Bring a decent size cooler with ice for your filets. All your fish is skinned and bagged in freezer bags. Bring sunglasses, sunblock, water, beer, snacks, Dramamine, hats, and dress lightly because your going to get hot jigging and reeling. Don't forget to tip the 1st mate. Captain does not get a tip, He gets cash or a check. This is not a scenic ocean cruise, or time to play on your phone, it's about catching big ass fish.

He made certain that we were fed always providing a box of Popeye chicken with biscuits giving us a bottle of water and soda and walking around the boat asking is everyone okay. Fishing buddies of America has seen a lot of members come and a lot of members go. I was very happy to be a part of a fishing trip that took place in North Carolina on a 24-hour fishing vessel where we caught lots of Vermilion snappers the size limit and the limit for two days as well as Grunt and triggerfish. It was my first experience and a great one. It's sad to say though in 2018 Mr Ernest Fernandez passed away. He does have friends of fishing buddies of America who are running their own charters as a matter of fact there is a trip on June 9th the boat is almost full will be a dedication to miss the earnest Fernandez will we will dedicate to the sea memories of mr. Fernandez. I think that is a great way to pay homage to him. We will also fish on this day in memory of mr. Fernandez for one of his favorite fish porgies.
