Is in ruins but some areas are really well preserved. It is very quiet, the 5 times I've been there I think I've seen 10 people and That was too many haha! So it's very relaxing and inspiring. I always take my dog, so he can run all over the place. It is good that is very clean and well cared. It's great location for photographs.

Shame really. When we were there there was also a lot of broken glass, one piece which stuck firmly into my husbands shoe, so be aware if you are walking dogs here. It's a shame, as there is a lovely walk around the castle and down by the river. As the rest of Ireland seems to be remarkably quite litter free, this was a sad sight.

We followed thru very narrow circular stairs that take you to the top. We saw spectacular views of the buildings and the countryside. This was where they did filming of the 1995 movie Braveheart. Which was about Scotland but filmed in Ireland.

Tip of the day - you must stand exactly in the middle of the two gate posts if you are a little off to either side it won't work

After 2 weeks of trying to convince Dublin City Council that we really did need bins, we gave up,…read morecontacted Panda, discovered they would do the same job for less cash, smiled, and signed up. 2 days after the Panda Bins arrived - the bins from the city also showed up. Marvelous. 2 weeks later the council removed their bins again... we had 6 for a while, the neighbours were beginning to talk in hushed tones about the volume of rubbish being produced by that strange new family down the street... 12 months on the neighbours still speak of us in hushed tones... but now it is because of the naked sleepwalking
