It has music on several stages, stalls, food, art, crafts, kids entertainment, performers, participation and of course a beer tent. I went for the day last year and it was a hot day (rain tomorrow). If you can't get to this one put it in your diary for next year because it is good and it is free! After the event. A crowd of us went. Kings Cross to Cambridge and we got on enroute..like a rolling snowball..it had picked up other friends enroute. The trains were packed and the queueing and police presence at Cambridge station seemed a bit OTT. The festival itself was packed but the music, beer and food were good as were the selection of stalls. I got a rainstick for £1. As this is free one wonders how much longer it can run but if it is on next year then go!

You then purchase your pint glass in which you can take home with you for £2.50. There is a warehouse full of beer vendors, such a huge selection, there is something there for everybody. The volunteers were very helpful and quick to serve you, it looks like fun being a volunteer because I think they may be allowed to drink for free, all of them were drinking. I tasted some of the best beer of my life there, had a nice 1/2 pint of 11%. There are tons of food vendors to help soak up the alcohol in your system when needed. Dogs are welcome. It was a really good atmosphere with lots of positive vibes flowing. Had a great time even as a DD.

Now in its 40th year, CAMRA's CBF is a great event. It runs for a week and is huge with lots of…read morebreweries featuring mostly British ales. You have to like said ales to get the most of this festival. Their IPAs, porters, stouts and lagers come from brewers all over the country but I find most British brewers stay within a narrow taste profile. No cascade hops here. There is a small foreign bar featuring Belgian and German offerings and one for mead. If you have the time you can volunteer to pull beers. You'll earn credits and learn quite a bit but do the lunch shift it's much easier than the evenings or weekends. The huge tented space keeps everyone dry, there are food vendors too. £4 entry.

Most of the garden is outdoors, there are some garden glass houses where the humidity is quite tropical. There is a cafe on site and a nice gift shop. 6£ to enter is reasonable given the space and variety in plants and trees. You can see most of it on 90 minutes. You can learn some interesting facts along the walk. For example, did you know that Cambridge has the least rain in all of Britain? Even less than Barcelona!

Does it somehow look familiar? This was a study for A Sunday on the Island of la Grande Jatte! "This work is one of many that Georges-Pierre Seurat made in preparation for a much larger painting. The woman's stiff posture is accentuated by her tightly buttoned jacket and the exaggerated bustle of her skirt, which echoes the curve of her parasol. Given that the area of Paris depicted here was known for prostitution, it has been suggested that the woman is a sex worker on the arm of a male client." Give yourself several hours if you plan to take in the entire collection. If you are fortunate enough to live nearby and can visit often, take your time and you're sure to fall in love with one of the many wonderfully curated items found within the museum walls.

We did have to pick what we were interested in and walk through some displays we weren't necessarily into, but we had plenty of time to enjoy everything on offer. And boy, do they have offerings! Firstly I was impressed by the architecture as you approach the antiquated castle, then by the glass addition on entry which blend both old and new together. We started by walking up to the ramparts to view the city and you continue to see the seamless way they integrated the buildings on the staircases. Then we started at the beginning of the museum and enjoyed the banquet hall where there are hands on displays including fake food and clothing for children....or your inner child ;) Great photo op! There are continued interactive displays throughout the museum to enjoy so keep a lookout. As well as museum displays there are art galleries and although I'm not usually a fan of modern art I was intrigued by some of the artwork using mixed media. The museum really does have something for everyone's interests, military, archaeology, social history, teapot collections, taxidermy in landscapes, every era represented. I hadn't expected to see so many excellent exhibits in a museum this size. Norwich knows how to build a museum! If I ever return I will start my day at the museum and spend more time there.

A lovely little museum with lots of interesting, nostalgic exhibits from the edge of the Fens…read more There's a huge restored windmill and a new hangar for the vintage vehicles which include a beautiful old Burwell and District Daimler bus. It's worth checking the 2009 calendar for event days, we went to the 'Dads Army' day and my kids absolutely loved it! There were so many enthusiastic volunteers putting on displays and my lots' favourite was the Drill Sergeant putting the kids through the parade marches with broom handles. There were lots of vinatge military vehicles there too.

This is, in my opinion, one of the best pubs in Saffron Walden. Whether you are after a quiet…read moremidweek drink after work, a great pub lunch, to catch the match on Sky or indeed any channel or have a great night out with your mates then come and see Ian or Sarah (Landlord and Landlady) and you will have a great time. They have a wide variety of lager and bitter on tap along with a huge selection of spirits and soft drinks. There is a small private car-park at the rear of the pub and small beer garden with several picnic type tables/benches. This is quite a sporty pub and regularly has a football or rugby match showing on one of several screens in the bar and the bar staff are usually quite accommodating if there is a particular event that people want to watch so long as it doesn't clash with a major fixture. But I have seen Football, Rugby, Tennis, Olympic events and loads of other sports over the years that I called this pub 'my local'. The Duke also does a great lunchtime menu - which I'd describe as good, traditional pub grub - and serves a variety of food from sandwiches and baguettes to burgers, scampi and lasagne.
