They have absolutely zero qualifications to make that call. And no he doesnt. He has Einstein syndrome. Then they Surprise me with a lawsuit almost five years later or some unpaid bill theyve never brought up. Rachel at the front desk knows absolutely nothing about anything. And god forbid you try speaking to the billing department. She will never be in the office for some reason. Absolutely horrible place to work with. Should not pride themselves with working with anyone with disabilities.

A few of my coworkers and I recently attended a Bal-A-Vis-X training workshop. We found the…read moresensory motor components of the exercises very appealing and applicable to use with our psychiatric clients as a way to facilitate sensory integration, socialization, participation and learning. We hope to incorporate basic components and exercises as a preparatory activity for learning in groups we provide. I wanted to bring to attention that we chose to leave the workshop early due to the series of misleading, unethical, and unprofessional comments and approaches that Mr. Hubert was sharing with the group of professionals that were in attendance. We felt uncomfortable with many situations and examples he provided throughout the training in reference to establishing "parameters of behavior". We found many of his suggestions for interacting with students, clients, and persons with specials needs as disrespectful, unsafe, and unethical through our lens of clinical practice, experience, and advanced training in trauma informed care. We did not find his approaches to be congruent with Occupational Therapy's professional standards and code of ethics. What is missing from the Bal-Vis-A-X program is therapeutic use of self, which is a skill that many therapists and educators possess and can be used to enhance the effectiveness of these exercises in any setting. We appreciate Mr. Hubert's skill of observation and experience as an educator, as well as his background in Martial Arts and military service. Though his many years of observation and experience are valuable, his concepts are missing accurate medical terminology and sound theoretical basis. For his audience, who appear to be highly educated and experienced professionals, this does not meet the caliber of best practices. His lack of professional language could be perceived as patronizing and condescending. We respect his work and expertise developing Bal A Vis X and understand the underlying intention. However, we would like to caution to any professionals taking the class against his lack of evidence based language and trauma informed care (i.e. not asking permission to touch or enter another's space, using threatening and authoritative tones with child of special needs or vulnerable adults). There appears to be no reviews for the workshops online besides positive review of the effects of the exercises on his website (which we are not objecting to), and reviews of his books online. Our intent is to filter out the approaches that did not align with our ethics and practice framework, and utilize what we can in our own setting. We hope that this review is taken objectively and with respect for professionalism in PT/OT/Speech, Education, and caregiver roles. We also encourage each attendee to examine acceptable, responsible, safe, and effective ways to establish a therapeutic relationship when providing care for children and adults clients, with or with special needs, in the classroom or therapy session.
