It's cool, spent sometime there for a bit. It's hot and disgusting in the summer. Highly recommend.

The Tularosa Basin Museum of History moved into this much-improved location last year. It's much…read morelarger, and they finally have room to display most of their holdings. One of the most interesting exhibits was about Chihuahita (the Mexican part of town) and the Dudley School in Chihuahita (a segregated school for blacks and Mexicans). Their prize possession is the (unofficial) 47-star US flag created in 1912 when New Mexico was admitted as a state. The gift shop has a vast array of local history books along with some more traditional tourist items. The building is a historic adobe (it previously held the Plaza Pub) and there are some spots inside where you can view the original adobe walls.

For the size of the town, this museum was excellent! We were unfortunately stuck in Alamogordo for…read moreover a week because of car trouble and looking for things to do in-town. This museum has SOO MUCH information! It takes you through the history of the area: from BC all the way to present day practically. There is a huge emphasis on the railway because, well that's what gave birth to the region. But there are also tons of knick knacks from bygone time periods that you often cant get so close to at bigger museums. You can see exactly how people lived in the 1800's and 1900's. They also have a large selection of stories and pictures from locals, as they try to flesh out the history of their immediate town and surroundings. Alot of love went into the museum. It's currently $3 a ticket, and I'd say you definitely get your $3 worth!
