So what was a non-golfer and city girl like me doing at a golf course in Ashton? This is a…read morelegitimate question! I was actually there for a Charity Gala put on by an organization called "Health and Charity" in support of CHEO (the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario). So this review is exclusively for this location as an event venue (not a golf course). The event I went to was held outdoors under tents and had about 300 attendees. I feel like this number was a little too much for the place to handle. Physically the space was fine, they had lots of space and we were not crammed in. However, it was other things like we were tables of 8 and they had 1 water carafe for each table and each carafe held about 2.5 glasses worth of water. This would be fine if everyone's water glasses were already filled and the carafe would just be used to top up water, but this was not the case. The water glasses were empty! Our table at least had a carafe, I saw a table next to us where their water receptacle was a large mason jar. Another thing was the women's washrooms. The one on the main floor had only 2 stalls, so there was a huge lineup. They had more washrooms upstairs (not sure how many), but most women, including myself, were in sky-high heels and so we opted not to walk up a flight of stairs. The premises did have charm. The place is a bit older and has a rustic feel to it. If you are looking for modern, this is not the place, but if you are looking for older with character, then this would be the place. The tents were great. It was really cold outside, but we were warm under the tents. The food was good. We had the roasted red pepper soup, chicken breast with mashed potatoes, red pepper, carrot and green beans in a cream sauce, and mini desserts (carrot cake, sugar pie, and Nanaimo bars). Everything was very "safe" in terms of flavours. Nothing too creative nor unusual, which I think is ideal when you are serving a large number of people with varying levels of tolerance for culinary adventure. Nothing was bland though, everything tasted very good. Staff were very pleasant and nice. One server even went to check to see if they had Earl Grey tea for me (which they didn't). There's lots of parking, but the main parking lot is small and the large spillover parking lot is not paved. My heels did not like this, lol. Please keep in mind that I am a big city girl who feels that Ottawa is too small. I like the big, bright, modern, and slightly sterile aesthetic, haha. So this place is not my cup of tea (Earl Grey, or otherwise). But I do recognize that not everyone has the same tastes that I do, and all things considered, I think they did a good job as the venue for the event. I think this place would be a great venue for a smaller event for someone looking for a small town/country feel. I mean, hey, it's a golf course and country club, and not a convention centre, right? So 4 stars for what it is.

Cheap date night! Hubby and I had a great time playing Mini Golf at On the Green. It's very close…read moreto home and run by wonderfully friendly staff. The business has been around for a while and since the mini-putt course is outside it has become quite weathered. It has not been very well maintained which adds an extra challenge to playing the course, but since the activity is so inexpensive, we quite enjoyed the extra challenge. The driving range was busy with a constant stream of new golfers. There is a noisy ball machine providing buckets of balls for the range which was used fairly regularly. There were all ages on the range from retired to families with little golfers and since the range is away from the main road, it's a safe place to have some fun with friends or practice your swing. Personally, I have never hit a long range golf ball but it looks like I will be trying it soon!

I had forgotten its location but the big giraffe out front... this is where I used to mininputt as a kid with people no longer with us. I love that the new owner of about 10 years had kept the integrity of the mini putt area. The same little barn, humpty dumpy, church on the putt putt greens... Original, just maybe fixed up a bit. 34 acres. Long driving range. New tavern with drinks and snacks. Food truck. A putting area. Wow. My dog was welcome and we had a nice time at the tavern outer area. Serene. I'll go back. This place has great vibes for me.

Located at the corner of Hunt Club and Greenbank in the middle of a field is a slug. Well, no it…read moreisn't a slug, but it looks like it. the Super Dome is a big, beige inflatable dome in Nepean. It is absolutely ugly from the outside. On the inside, however, it is a multi sport indoor field area. Golf, soccer, football, frisbee, you can do them all in this dome. A certain amount of time is rented to teams each week, so booking the dome isn't always easy. The facility is impressive despite the ugly exterior, and something that has been needed in the west end for a while.

The simulators have a lot of golf courses from around the world loaded into their system already. You can also take mulligans, view replays of your shots, and warm up at their virtual driving range where you get stats like distance, degrees off center, how far your ball travels after landing, distance to the green, club head speed, degree of loft as well as others. as you play a course, the driving mats have a wide fairway mat, as well as sections on each side for simulating the rough and bunkers. you also putt right into the screen as well, with anything within 10 feet as a "gimme". I will be heading back regularly as long as the snow is in the tundra, and my game today showed me I need to get this rust off my game ASAP

It is so popular, in fact, that people like playing virtual golf when the elements outside don't let one play real golf. Thankfully for those in Ottawa's west end there is Golf-O-Max. Located in the same complex as Loblaws, the virtual golf establishment is big enough to fit multiple groups of fake golfers. You go in, pay a few and hit golf balls at a screen that looks just like an 18 hole golf course. I won't explain the entire game of golf to you, but you play each hole against however many friends you have Whit you. Simple, but it works. On top of playing the sport so many people love, there is a bar you can go to to grab a drink as you drive, chip and putt your way to victory or defeat. There isn't much bad to say about Golf-O-Max. It serves its purpose and doesn't pretend to be something else. It is there for golfers, and it serves them well.
