At the same time, the course is pristine. The golf lessons I took were conducted in a very professional way and were detailed - expensive but resulted in great improvement in my game. Come on guys, give us a better way to practice and we will keep coming back.

The course has 9 holes (all of which are par 3), a driving range as well as a practice area for chipping and putting. I have been very impressed by the prices. When you think of golf, you usually think very expensive, but the prices at White Sands are definitely decent. If you want to play nine holes, it costs only $18. The price for 18 (aka, playing the course twice) is $28.50. My favourite is the Practice and Play package. For only $22, you get a basket of balls for the driving range, unlimited use of the practice area and a game of 9 holes. This is beyond decent compared to some of the courses in the Ottawa region. They also have memberships at varying prices based on the length of commitment and offer senior's discounts. Like most courses, they also offer rentals of pull carts and clubs at a reasonable price. I usually book a tee-time just to ensure I don't have to wait, but I have dropped in on occasion and been able to tee off almost right away. There is an area inside by the registration desk that sells some clubs as well as drinks to keep you hydrated while you are on the green. While the course may not be the best maintained, it is pretty scenic and features nice greenery and ponds. Bring a visor though, the afternoon sun beats down pretty strong! I like White Sands because I do not feel the pressure to play quick and race through my game to accommodate the regulars who are far more advanced, and thus quicker at laying the course. I am able to take my time and (attempt) to respect the learning process. Golf Season is here! My clubs are polished and waiting to go and I can't wait to get out on the green. White Sands will be my first stop, as I am likely rusty after a long Ottawa winter and will need a lot of practice!

After I had booked my hotel for my recent visit to Ottawa, I checked what was around it. I realized…read morethat I was staying next door to Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton (RCGT) Park. My first thought: That ballpark's name is a mouthful! My second thought: Is the name a law firm representing two people or four? The ballpark is home to the Ottawa Titans. A number of Ottawa baseball teams have come and gone over the years. The Titans made their debut in 2020 as part of the MLB Partner Frontier League - East Division. Being a partner league means that this team has no direct affiliation with individual MLB organizations, but it collaborates on promoting the sport in North America. Although the name of this ballpark sounds like a law firm, it's actually an accounting firm. It was founded by Jacques Raymond and Guy Chabot. Like the various Ottawa baseball teams that have come and gone, so have partners at this accounting firm. There must have been some merger in the past, because the Grant Thornton part of the name points to an accounting firm in the United States. It was founded by Alexander Grant, went through a bunch of partner names changes, and is now known as Grant Thornton. So, the baseball park's name comprises the last names of four men. It used to be called Ottawa Stadium. I yearn for simplicity. I saw RCGT Park every day from my hotel room. It was cool seeing whether there was a game based on whether the stadium lights were on. I decided to take in a game on Canada Day. My plan was to check out celebrations downtown and then come here to see the Titans play against the Quebec Capitales. I bought my ticket before arriving in Ottawa. I got a decent lower-level seat for $17, which includes tax. It's the most expensive ticket that you can purchase, which is highly affordable. I paid for parking online through Indigo. It was $7. You register your licence plate through the app, specify when you're taking in the game, and pay. In hindsight, I didn't need to pay for parking. If you're staying at the Courtyard Ottawa East, you can simply walk across the parking lot and save some money. The game was to start at 5 pm. I left downtown at around 4:30 pm. It was pouring rain. I didn't know whether the game was on. I still headed to this stadium and parked. I had seven minutes before the first pitch. Security is interesting at this stadium. Staff scan your electronic ticket. That's it. There's no security check at all. So, the guy who brought a huge drum to get the crowd going just walked through with a valid ticket. Kind of weird. It was a throwback to simpler times, but I was living them here. I got a bottle of Diet Coke at the concession stand. I used a credit card to pay. The man who helped me with my order was nice and professional. I used the women's washroom. There were perhaps twelve stalls. Mine was clean and decent. There were many sinks available. The scoreboard stated that this game was delayed by an hour due to rain. The hour delay allowed me to check out the team store. I liked the caps, but many were fixed and could not be adjusted. I like adjustable ones because my big head needs an adjustable one, rather than unintentionally busting a cap when attempting to wear it. I saw the tarp being folded by staff. Staff also wiped down the seats that were wet. It was a nice touch. I actually helped them out by wiping down my seat before sitting down. This ballpark is nice. It has a split-level design, with a concourse running around the middle of the seating bowl. This concourse is the main level. Since I had a lower seat, I was actually walking down. If you have an upper seat, you are climbing up stairs to get there. Apparently, there's a play area for kids. I didn't get around to seeing it. The stadium has skyboxes. I saw some folks occupying a couple during the game. There used to be an upper desk restaurant, but it no longer exists. Bummer. You can technically see a game from Coventry Road. It also means that you can occasionally see a ball fly out of the stadium and potentially hit a passing car. I had a nice view of the home team's dugout, along with home plate and third base. I liked my seat. The only downside to this stadium is that there aren't any handrails. I saw one older man hold on to the backs of chairs. There was also a drunk woman who was wobbling all over the place that it caused some concern for a lot of us watching her make her way up the stairs. The Titans were trailing by a run in the fifth inning. I went to buy a hot dog, as I was getting hungry. I got back to my seat and started eating it. The Titans scored three runs. Note to self: When the home team is trailing, get food. Get a footlong next time! The team mascot is Cappy. Sadly, his name is so close to Crappy that I snickered whenever I saw him. I got a Cappy plushie. It wasn't crappy. The Titans won 4-2. Yay! I had a great time. It's a nice stadium with affordable tickets. There's free wifi, too. (257)

The simulators have a lot of golf courses from around the world loaded into their system already. You can also take mulligans, view replays of your shots, and warm up at their virtual driving range where you get stats like distance, degrees off center, how far your ball travels after landing, distance to the green, club head speed, degree of loft as well as others. as you play a course, the driving mats have a wide fairway mat, as well as sections on each side for simulating the rough and bunkers. you also putt right into the screen as well, with anything within 10 feet as a "gimme". I will be heading back regularly as long as the snow is in the tundra, and my game today showed me I need to get this rust off my game ASAP

It is so popular, in fact, that people like playing virtual golf when the elements outside don't let one play real golf. Thankfully for those in Ottawa's west end there is Golf-O-Max. Located in the same complex as Loblaws, the virtual golf establishment is big enough to fit multiple groups of fake golfers. You go in, pay a few and hit golf balls at a screen that looks just like an 18 hole golf course. I won't explain the entire game of golf to you, but you play each hole against however many friends you have Whit you. Simple, but it works. On top of playing the sport so many people love, there is a bar you can go to to grab a drink as you drive, chip and putt your way to victory or defeat. There isn't much bad to say about Golf-O-Max. It serves its purpose and doesn't pretend to be something else. It is there for golfers, and it serves them well.

The Long Version: The Hylands Golf Club is a golf club by the Ottawa airport. Membership is open to everyone, but it is known as a military golf club. Military insignia and military memorabilia can be found throughout the golf club. Military personnel also pay the cheapest memberships, followed by civilians working in Defence, RCMP and Coast Guards. All others have the highest membership rates. I'm not a golfer and am not a member, but I was there for a special event (military related). I briefly toured the grounds and they looked nice, but I spent most of my time in the clubhouse. There's a bar and kitchen there. I had dinner there and it was fantastic. We started with the Bistro Salad, which was a mixed greens salad with onions, dried cranberries and feta cheese. The vinaigrette was light and slightly sweet. We had beef tenderloin as our main and it was tender and flavourful. It was accompanied by roasted potatoes, carrots and asparagus. The gravy was delicious. The dessert was a cheesecake with a raspberry sauce. It was a bit too sweet and too rich for my liking, but overall still good. Service was courteous, but I never got my tea, and I feel like we were maybe a bit of a larger group than they are used to. We were about 100 people. There is free parking on-site, which is paved (I mention this because although I haven't been to many golf clubs, most that I've been to have unpaved parking lots, which is a pain when you're attending a formal event and wearing heels, lol). The design is great, holes are challenging, they have a great app to keep score we had a blast. The only downside is sometimes you need to wait for the people infront of you to finish the next hole or you feel bad others are waiting for you. But since there is no rush and everyone are having a good time no one cares. There is also a mini arcade to pass time if you arrived to early or need to wait for your time slot.
