So while they will see exotic pets, no one here is really trained/certified in this area, so diagnosis and treatment might be limited. They can refer X-rays to another location where an exotic specialist gives feedback, but they don't really have the lab resources to perform testing. Dr. Hagood, who appears to have become a vet in 2024, is super nice and gentle with pets, and the other staff were all friendly and seem to genuinely care for the animals. I wouldn't hesitate at all to bring my dog or cat here, but exotics with serious concerns should probably go to an exotic specialist if you can find one in the area (Knoxville might be the closest).

Was told she wasn't in but she'd be back by 1:30 so I said I'd be right there. I was told in no uncertain terms that would not be acceptable--that she had a full schedule. I reiterated this was an emergency, that surely she would want to see her. Nope. Was told to lower my voice. I told the receptionist if she can't understand my distress, she should not be working in a Vets office. Once again, Dandridge Veterinary Hospital saved the day. I brought all of my dogs' previous vet history with me, and had initial visits to update shots. I could not be more pleased with the service and care that I have received from them. Dr. Maxy has been my main veterinarian, and she has been great with all 5 of my dogs. I had to put one of them down, and she was amazing. I have also had to have my Great Dane neutered there, and the care that he received has also been top notch. The surgeon called me right when the surgery was completed to let me know how it went, and to let me know when I could pick up my dog. That was beyond caring in my opinion. So I would recommend them to anyone seeking stellar veterinarian care for their animals.

For example, one day we were taking our newly adopted puppy for his shots. We found a kitten that was about 3 weeks old laying on the side of the road in a massive thunderstorm. She looked like she was hours from dying. So we picked her up and took her with to the vet. Mr. Hewitt diagnosed her with ringworm, severe dehydration, and pneumonia. We explained the scenario, and he understood we were trying to save an unplanned companion. He only charged us what he paid for the medication and no doctor visit fees for the kitten (on all follow ups!). Now I never would expect that again, or expect that on any other cases, but it showed who he is as a person. In the age of vets that are profit driven by corporations, he really cares and loves animals and their owners! He is an amazing vet that we wish we could have taken with us when we moved. I recommend him to everyone who needs a vet that actually cares and doesn't price gouge like many corporate vets out there!
