I was given a gift certificate for a massage at Netty's as my SIL knows how badly I have been trying to find a good massage therapist that isn't in it for the money entirely and that truly wants their patients to find healing.
At first entrance I was surprised to find such a nice place in TA. The place was newly remodeled and modern. It was cold however with no artwork (bare walls). Her husband was very friendly and meeted me when I arrived. He was ok that I was running just a few minutes late. (I called to let them know how sorry I was!)
I spent 5 minutes filling out a form that asked what my goals were for my massage, areas of concern, health history etc. I also spent that time talking with Netty's husband letting him know I was looking for a massage therapist that was a good fit for my health issues. I have an artificial disc at c5-6 and mild scoliosis. I also deal with chronic neck pain and headaches. Add to boot sitting at a desk 9 hours a day...I'm always a mess. I don't get massage for relaxation. I do it for health maintenance. The same as someone eating healthy, massage is for me an important piece to the health puzzle. So, I made sure he knew that and he acted interested in what I was saying. As I handed my form over we sort of finalized that and he suggested a deep tissue. So, I opted for the upgrade as I've had plenty of massages in my life to know you will get a different level of pressure and bodywork.
She walked me back to the room and it was nice: heated table, soft blanket but the lights were too bright.
Unfortunately, I paid an additional $15 for absolutely no reason. I got on the table and let her know she did not have to worry about pressure- to let it rip. As she continued her massage, I kept thinking...ok, now she will ask how the pressure is. But, she never did. I have never had a massage that was so unpersonal. I've never had a massage in which the therapist did not ask how the pressure was.
She was very nice, very pleasant and I left relaxed. However, massage therapy is not cookie cutter. Each person is dealing with different pains and reasons for massage. Many may come for massage to relax, but I don't spend that kind of money to relax. Working out the knots in my muscles relaxes me. I did not leave feeling any of my muscles relieved.
My SIL reported the same story, unfortunately. Unless we are assured we are missing something, we will not be back. read more
