Wonderful food, very warm and welcoming owners; can't wait to visit again when back in the UK.

There other stuff is great too - lamb chops, lamb cutlets...proper burgers. Vegitarian? Find somewhere else to eat.

I thought nothing of it and veered out of his way to avoid a harsh collision. However, this person then followed me up the road touching my hand with his as I walked in front of him. He then attempted to rub himself on me, which I managed to avoid. Utterly confounded, I turned around to demand what he was doing, but he ran off into the nearest shop! A grown man acting in such a way! It was then I realised that I had actually been targeted, perhaps for the way I look? I eventually tracked him down to this restaurant, which he had run back to while I was in other shops looking for him, a chef and a woman were trying to distract me from confronting him, which makes the situation even more suspicious. I told him in no uncertain terms that I did not appreciate his attention and found his deviant behaviour disgusting. I was made to feel that I should welcome this attention? I would be quite wary of leaving other females alone with him, partcularly where you have another woman working with him that supports this unacceptable behaviour. And as to the way I look sir, well if people such as myself offend you, perhaps you should move.... - Batya Rebbe, Golders Green.

Update: Since Zest…read morehas gone meaty it's definitely improved. Had the roast dinner today for lunch and it was great, service was fab as well - although that could have also been down to the very few other tables. Would now recommend. -------- 2/5 Since opening, Zest has marketed itself as an alternative to the other kosher restaurants - implying it serves modern, exciting kosher food in the style popularised by Yotam Ottolenghi. This influence is definitely on show with the food, with brunch featuring twists on classics such as shakshuka and scrambled eggs - different? yes; delicious? yes; special? not in my opinion. Where Zest really falls down is service. From waiting over 5 minutes to be told there was a wait of around 5 min to be seated, to the waiter completely not hearing our order and needing us to repeat it, to his brash outlining of the bottomless brunch rules (which he then excused by saying he wasn't being rude!), to the chefs looking exasperated at the lack of service - it was all very Fawley Towers! I think this was my 5th and final visit (out of choice that is!) - it's always been the same!

I've had takeaway from the Zest cafe a few times, but yesterday I finally sat down for dinner…read more First, the decor, menu design, and plating are gorgeous and colorful. The menu (kosher dairy) is vegetarian and fish, with strong Middle Eastern/Mediterranean influences thanks to Algerian-Strian-Israeli chef Eran Tibi, who worked with Ottolenghi a few years ago. (Tibi's family has owned restaurants for generations.) Plus, this place has the most attractive waitstaff. It was hard to decide what to order, but I finally settled on the Sephardic ratatouille (with aubergines, courgettes, sunflower seeds, and a single roast cherry tomato) and sweet potato gnocchi. The ratatouille was great but very small. However, the gnocchi was fantastic. The gnocchi were pan-seared and piled on a bed of sort-of baba ghanoush, with yogurt drizzles and pomegranate seeds, surrounded by a smattering of crispy fried onion pieces. It was absolutely amazing. Meanwhile, I saw some of the soup of the day (sweet potato and bok choy) being served, and had to order some. The bok choy added just a necessary hint of sourness to the sweetness of the soup; it's served with slices of toasted challah. I need to go back and try everything else on the menu. My only complaint is that everything is pretty expensive for the size, but you always pay more for kosher, organic, seasonal, and made with this much expertise.

We were in London for a few days and we were really looking forward to eating in this restaurant. I…read morehad been previously many many years ago but not with my family. On arrival, we were 'greeted' by this sour bunch of three ladies, one who confirmed our reservation, one who took our coats and one who showed us to the table. We were put off by this but we were looking forward to our meal so we simply ignored this. Once we saw the exorbitant menu prices (around £29 per dish), we decided to just order a main course only to be asked by the waitress, "is that it? That's all you are going to order?" What we decide to order is our choice and do not expect to be 'judged' by a waitress! Again, we decided to 'brush this off' and ordered our meal. To describe this as a 'meal' is an understatement! The chicken in black bean sauce had maybe 6 small pieces of chicken, perhaps 50g at most. This was spongy and with no texture at all. I can honestly say that if I ate it blindfolded I would never guess that it was chicken! The spare ribs came absolutely drowned in a thick gloopy sauce and the meat was like a rubber boot and again with not enough to feed a kitten and the fried rice was way undercooked and hard. At this point I had had enough and decided to ask for the owner/manager. Two or three servers came in turn before the actual owner decided to grace us with his presence. At no point did I raise my voice as I had no intention of disturbing other diners. The owner, Norman his name was berated us in a loud voice that he had over 40 years experience in the restaurant business and that no one had ever complained about his food and that he only served prime cuts. He also said that this was kosher food and that we had no idea what kosher food was all about!! We eat kosher at home and when we eat out and he had no right whatsoever to judge us like this! All the other customers were now staring at us making the situation highly embarrassing to say the least! HE then literally threw us out of the restaurant. Norman, if you ever read this (and I think you should) please take heed. I will post this review on Tripadvisor and on all Kosher restaurant review sites I can find! Shame on you and shame on your establishment!
