First Southern National Bank

I have been a customer at the Lancaster branch for over a decade. I have received and payed off a…read morefew secured loans with them and to my knowledge my account has never been overdrawn. My wife and I lost our infant son due to Covid a year ago and shortly after his death we relocated to my wife's families land in Oklahoma for a change of scenery .Despite our out of state move all of our banking remained at the Lancaster branch. Money is deposited like clock work as always. Last week my wife was admitted to ICU in Tulsa where we learned she has a terminal illness and has been given a year at best. I haven't been in a right state of mind since hearing the news and with gas prices at 5.00 a gallon and a week hospital stay two hours from home we are running low for fuel expenses. My wife was able to come home but I have to take her to another specialist who will try to prolong her life, she's only 39 and she will be admitted again for at least two weeks maybe more for an experimental treatment. I called the bank and was going to try and obtain a personal SECURED loan of 500, with possibly a 3 month term and set the payments to be ACH out of my account as we have always done before. Before I could even tell the Ioan officer the amount I was requesting, she literally laughed and said well as I recall your credit was in shambles after Covid and it wouldn't matter anyway we don't loan to people who are out of state. She then proceeded to say, well u ever pay any of those other people off??? I couldn't even answer her before she was running those arrogant jaws, cutting me completly off of my response by stating again yall were doing real good there for a while then the last time y'all came in here your stuff was just in shambels, so no, i just don't know what to tell you , have a nice day...then she hung up. After the phone call I just sat there stunned by her behavior, her rudeness, her lack of even trying to see if we could be approved. We had some financial struggle due to layoffs during Covid but nothing affiliated with this bank, and that was three years ago. Our debt and credit is vastly different than what she is remembering. She wouldn't even take the time to let me apply let alone run my credit. Even if it's policy not to loan to someone out of state, or even if my credit was in shambles and I couldn't be approved, there is still a professional way you handle business, especially with long standing customers of over a decade whos world just got shattered with horrific news. I wasn't asking for a hand out, just a chance to try and obtain a small SECURED personal loan to assist with our fuel expense to try and improve the quality of life my wife has left. I will be switching financial institutions as soon as I have the time. I will find a more respectful, personal, caring place to do business with. Don't let their mission statement fool you. You are only a number regardless of how long you have been a loyal customer with them. This review has nothing to do about not getting funding, it's the disrespectful, degrading customer service we received, and the fact we weren't even given a chance I feel she talked to me like a piece of dirt, and no one should be made to feel that way.

I've been a member of KECU ever since I started working for the state in 2006. They're fast, yet…read morefriendly. I've never had to wait on hold for more than a minute when I've called them with an account question. When you call them, you talk to a real person at the bank, not someone in a call center overseas, or a robot. Their rates are very competitive; they're better than any other bank I've seen, and they're not out to nickel and dime you like most big banks are. Of course, you're going to get better savings rates with an online, high yield account, but their mortgage and car loan rates are much lower than what you'll find at a stealership, or a commercial mortgage lender. They've only got one branch, but you can use any of Commonwealth Credit Union's ATMs around town, as well as any AllianceOne network ATM. There's also a handful of shared branches across the country and state that you can use to get to your money. Did I mention they've got free online banking and billpay? I've been tempted to switch to Commonwealth Credit Union since they've got 4 branches in Frankfort and one in Lexington, but the folks at KECU just treat me right each time I come in.

After completing an application and a few emails back and forth with the loan officer, I was approved in no time and able to replace my furnace before the next freeze. The staff at KECU was very helpful and VERY patient with a loan newbie. I will definitely continue to bank with the friendly folks at KECU.
