This is a fantastic restaurant hidden away in the woods off of Highway 9. For those of us who live in NW OKC it's about a 45 minute drive but it's worth the effort. Make sure to check the OU sports schedule before reserving your spot. OU football, basketball, softball and baseball games will slow your trip to a crawl because of traffic. It's also a bed and breakfast so you can always plan a staycation and avoid the traffic altogether. We've eaten there twice in the last 30 days and I'll include pictures and dishes from both trips. I chose it for the destination of my birthday and none of the 8 guests complained about the drive but all raved about the food. Instead of discussing each and every dish in detail like I normally do (this review would take many pages) I can say without reservation that you simply cannot go wrong with any choice. The soups are silky smooth and packed with flavor. I had the mushroom soup as a special on a previous trip and the taste was from the ground fresh. It must have been made with fresh mushrooms and herbs. The soup on this particular night was a creamy tomato bisque that was velvety smooth and amazing. I've had the House Salad and Caesar Salad. Both are fantastic. The former is a wonderful combination of greens with a light champagne vinaigrette that pairs perfectly. A "simple" Caesar salad is difficult to make but they've got it right. On this occasion I had the filet mignon; juicy, tender and the perfect temperature. I've also had the chicken and pork dishes which were wonderful. My husband has had the salmon and lamb, so I've tasted them and found them to be very good. The rack of lamb has a reduction sauce that would make drywall palatable. On this night I had the chocolate tort while a few others chose the crème brûlée and bread pudding. Pictures are unable to convey the the chef's mastery. I can't find the receipt and can't remember our server's name, shame on me. She handled our table of nine as easily as if it were a table of two. Her skill made a difficult job look easy. Don't worry about the distance. Highway 9 is a well-paved, four-lane highway. The restaurant is only about four miles east of I-35 and is an easy drive. My only suggestion is to check the OU sports schedule. I can also recommend spending the night and enjoying a room. read more

Went here for a special New Year's Eve dinner and it wasn't good. They put some type of nasty sauce/gravy on the steak and the lamb rack even though we told them not to. It gave me some pretty bad indigestion and won't be back. I won't be back and don't recommend it. The cottages are too dim, the ceiling fan has the lights removed. The toilet room looked like a club toilet it was so dim. I'm sure they're cheap and trying to cut cost but DAMN!!!!! I can't see very well in this place. The fridge didn't even have a light. Also ran out of hot water because we used the jacuzzi tub, therefore, COLD SHOWERS!!! If you're older and have vision problems don't come here. read more

The food and the server was fabulous! however we came in as a group of college students for a birthday and after we paid some of the party left and the higher ups came over and repeatedly asked if they paid which felt extremely accusatory. After that was out of the way, we had assumed tip was already added since it was a larger party and we read online it was already added. We later found it was not so those who left had not tipped but us who stayed made sure to tip extra so our waitress was treated well. During this conversation the woman, not the server, seemed extremely dissatisfied that those who had left did not tip. We explained this miscommunication and it felt very much like it was required to tip, and tipping is very much an optional service. Anyways the restraunt food and atmosphere are great just expect a little confusion if you're a larger party and especially if you're younger. read more

My husband booked online and requested someone to call him for a dinner reservation. No one called him. He said he called at least 15 times and left messages. He never got a return call. Finally, he got someone to answer and made the reservation. Reservations are required so he was very insistent on getting one for us. My husband booked us a night here for our 21st wedding anniversary. We live in Norman so this was suppose to be a relaxing stay-cation for us. We checked in. Got to our room, the Satin Suite, and every thing was set up as my husband requested. Champagne chilled, rose petals on the bed as well as flickering candles, chocolate cake in the mini fridge. We relaxed and talked before dinner. It was so nice...no dogs no teen daughter. We went down before our dinner reservation to get drinks at the bar. There was a wedding reception so it was very loud, we could barely talk. Luckily, after the wedding guest got drinks and food they went outside. The bartender was Jack of all trades, bartenders and waitress. She was attentive and did a good job with a good attitude. We ordered dinner, a steak and lamb. Both were really yummy. Very expensive, but yummy. After dinner we walked the grounds a little bit. It was hard to be have a romantic moment with all the wedding guests every where. There were many very young children running around. After walking around we went to our room to enjoy alone time. Which was very nice. However, when we went to go to bed the chaos came alive. Our room was above the bar, restaurant and kitchen. It was so loud. All the noise carried upstairs. Loud guests, barking dogs all night long. Clattering dishes. My husband went to bed around 10pm. I waited MUCH later for the noise to stop. I finally went to bed and the dogs wouldn't stop barking. The bed was so uncomfortable. My husband actually got up and slept on the sofa because he was so uncomfortable. The next morning we got up to leave. We were both so exhausted from a lack of sleep and my husbands back her so bad. We went to go check out and cancel our breakfast. I had to knock on the door to get someone's attention. She didn't seem to care that we were checking out and canceling breakfast. She said to leave the key on the counter and she would cancel the breakfast. I obviously bothered her. On the way home we were talking and my husband said he wanted to go home in the middle of the night. I said I did too, but I didn't want him to think I didn't appreciate all the effort he put into celebrating our anniversary. This place was recommended by one of my husbands friends who had a much better experience than we did. The place was nice until bedtime. read more

This Inn was very delightful and beautiful! Set off the road in a rolling countryside with plenty of trees, a lake, facilities for a large gathering, outdoor patios, indoor dining are some of the amenities they offer. Each room is different and has a theme. The beds were very comfortable with nice linens. The bathrooms have a spa tub and the towels are very soft and the toiletries are nice. Check-in with Amelia was smooth and she was very helpful. Shout-out to Lexi and Amber also! Helpful and pleasant, assisting guests. The rooms were immaculate! This is one of my favorite restaurants in the metro area. It has French cuisine and everything is impeccable. We started out with a split of red wine. I'm not sure which one, which is a faux pas in my part, but it was nice, They brought us out bread and butter. But not just any bread and butter; this is bread and butter from the gods, from Mt. Olympus, it was Manna from heaven. The bread was a freshly baked yeast roll that had the imperfections from being actually kneaded and baked. The butter was in a design and was wonderful. It is honey butter with dill. It doesn't actually sound good, but I actually just ate butter, it was so good. The soup of the day was a cream of mushroom and it was creamy and perfect with nice pieces of mushroom. Then they brought us a small scoop of citrus sorbet made in house and it was yummy. It was also to clear our palettes for the main course. I had ordered the half a rack of lamb with a wine reduction. I had it cooked to medium rare. It was being amazing. The man could just melt in my mouth. They serve it with vegetables and potato au gratin. I literally couldn't eat it all and had to bring it home. I'm not wasting an amazing meal. read more

The setting is intimate and the chairs were arranged wonderfully to focus on each other and the beautiful view. We loved watching the hummingbirds outside the window! Frequented Whispering Pines for years and now they have brunch! The biscuits and gravy are legit and the French toast is ridiculous too. Make a reservation to ensure you can get in. Brunch starts at 11. Dinner: the duck is where it's at. Start with the smoked salmon sampler though. Great wine selection and prices at least 20% less than the same bottle at Mahogany's. Staff is friendly and generous but focused. Consistency is key and they're on point in that respect with service, presentation and knowledge of wine and the menu. Ask for David! read more

The steak was precut and covered in a brown gravey with peppercorns. This was one of the toughest steaks I have ever had. Our server was amazing. The surrounding grounds we lovely. With that being said. Check in time starts at 4 we got there about 4:45 and no one was at the desk. I had to call the inn keeper. He kept saying what's your name and then said I will send my wife, then she was hard to understand. She wasn't even going to tell me where our room was. The room was cramped. I have never had to sit side ways on a toilet before because it was soooooo close to the tub. THE BED: was the worst! I felt like we were sleeping on a stone slab. Did not get much sleep. I bought a groupon worth $30 for this place and had to use it before it expires. So I invited a classmate to go along. We arrived at the place past 8pm, which was hard to find by the way. It was secluded, near lake Thunderbird. Outside it was a little scary but inside it looked really nice. If I have a significant other with me that night, I would have enjoyed it much more because this place is perfect for date nights. Just make sure to bring money because we paid $100 excluding the groupon, but we ordered alcoholic mixed drinks though which I advice against. Take your date here if you have a chance. For the bed and breakfast inn: this review was very hard to rate.. I would say a more precise would be a 3.5. The room and amenities were excellent. We stayed in the lavender room, which included a jacuzzi, comfortably fits 2 people. We enjoyed the candle, bubbles, and sea salt that came with it. The complimentary selection of movies and snacks available were also a huge plus! The breakfast was phenomenal! It is personally delivered to your room at the time you request it. Fresh coffee is also made outside of the room in the hallway. Bathrobes, makeup remover wipes were an unexpected plus! I can't really rate the service because we were pretty much left alone the entire time. The only downfalls were that 1) we did not get greeted properly. A teenager was the one that gave us our keys. I wish we had an actual host that told us what activities there was to do in town since it was our first time in OK. And also to tell us the details of our stay. 2) out bed was lopsided- the left side was steeper than the right, which made it hard to sleep with your partner. 3) the tv was staticky (if you wanted to watch cable, the movies view were fine) All in all, we still enjoyed our quick getaway night. We will still keep this location in mind with the hope that next time they have a better host and a new bed. Perhaps we will give a different suite in the future! read more

I am reviewing the B&B. I was put in a unit with NO shower. It had a jacuzzi which couldn't be filled because there was a sign that there wasn't enough hot water. So I had to sit with my head under the faucet to wash my hair and try to clean up. I rented this unit 6 months out to attend my grandsons graduation. Needless to say I was stuck there. Tears and stains on the carpet, and very low to no lighting. Ordered breakfast to be delivered to my cottage and had to call reception and the kitchen in the AM to see where it was. No answer, got dressed, went to reception only to see them eating at the bar. I asked why not answering phone. Oh "our cell phone is gone, can't find it". I called two different numbers. Eventually got breakfast. Bottom line, wouldn't go there again. read more

We were told that there were no dining reservations for that evening. Whomever took the reservation, clearly put it down for the wrong date or didn't write it down at the time the reservation was made. They had to know that there was a wedding reception at the time we called. They should have told us we couldn't make a reservation on that date. I have been going to whispering Pines for years. When I was a tiny tot, I remember going to their former restaurant in OKC with my parents. Now they have moved to Norman and I can honestly say that it is a front contender for the most delicious and well executed meal in the Oklahoma City metro/Norman area. By far it is the best French restaurant around. Now I know what you're thinking, you're saying "Ashley oh my goodness it's all the way out on Highway 9 in Norman, why would anybody ever want to drive out there?" Trust me once you have gone once you will be anticipating your return. Whispering Pines has both an Inn and a restaurant. Let's start with the restaurant. Their menu is very small, but their execution is spot on. For appetizers they offer options like shrimp cocktail ($12), escargot ($13), smoked salmon ($12), and tortellini ($10). They offer a daily soup, but their sweet corn and crab bisque, which is permanently on the menu, is my absolute favorite. It is puréed with just the right amount of texture. They offer several different kinds of salad and then a couple of entrées. Salads include a pear salad, a warm duck salad, house salad, and a Caesar salad. For entrées they offer your obvious steak, rack of lamb, fish and chicken, and my very favorite, the duck breast ($25). Whispering Pines could teach everyone a lesson on how to cook a perfect duck breast. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. They bring you a decent sized duck breast that they have pan seared, skin side down, so you get the beautiful crispy skin that duck is known for. They serve at a medium temperature with a casiss blackberry sauce. It is so, so delicious! My husband recently ordered the potato crusted salmon ($22) and was very happy with it as well. Each meal is served with their piping hot homemade rolls and herb butter, as well as scalloped potatoes and fresh vegetables. They give you a complimentary dessert for your birthday or anniversary which is always a nice touch. For dessert they offer crème brûlée, flourless chocolate cake, and a bread pudding. All of which are extraordinary. The grounds at whispering Pines are gorgeous. The bed and breakfast is in an old Victorian style house. They also have several cottages and what I assume is the caretakers personal brick home. What makes this space so great is their events center, gazebo, and vineyard all used for weddings. The entire grounds are covered with tall pine trees. It is breathtakingly beautiful and makes you wonder if you're really still in Oklahoma. I have yet to stay at the bed and breakfast but I have looked at the rooms online several times. I am sure that the breakfast they provide is out of this world. Our server David let us know that they offer a special when you stay at the bed and breakfast: if you stay on a weeknight they provide you with a free steak and shrimp dinner for two. What a deal! Hopefully I can talk my husband into going and giving it a try sometime. Whispering Pines is the perfect place for a romantic evening, special occasion, or a getaway here in Oklahoma. So get outside the norm take a scenic drive down Highway 9 to Norman. You won't be disappointed. read more
