Good breakfast in a homey setting. We arrived at 9:30 on a Sunday morning, and, while they weren't quite ready to serve us, they offered us a seat and a menu in a friendly way while they completed their opening chores and the espresso machine warmed up. I get it; the folks of Inverness don't get up and around on Sunday morning until 10:00. We ordered cafe americanos and I had porridge while my husband had the fried eggs with toast and rashers, the traditional cut of British bacon. Porridge, I've found, is a good thing to order for breakfast in Scotland, as it's usually delicious. Theirs was no exception, a healthy size portion served with maple syrup and mixed berry compote. She also offered me bananas or honey in place of that, but the berry compote was perfectly tart and went nicely with the syrup. The coffee was also delicious, and they served us real cream to go with it. My husband found his breakfast passing fair, with toast that wasn't quite toasted enough, but that seems to be common here. They did have decaffeinated coffee for his americano, so a plus there. The pastries weren't compelling, and did not appear to be fresh that morning, so we passed on anything from the pastry case.
This place is very kid friendly, with a wee child sized doll house for playing in, and a small sofa with books and toys to keep them entertained. read more
