It was wonderful! Very typical Irish pub food. Really enjoyed the steak and ale pie.

My family and I were visiting St. Andrews and I was looking up places to eat and yelp introduced us…read moreto this place with super high ratings. It is British food so I expected the typical hamburger, pasties, pastas, and pizza menu ,but for a Bar like british kinda restaurant 4.5 stars is high, so we went. High Yield: A Bar/pub restaurant that offers pretty sweet combo deals good for a family, with hearty burgers, pizzas, pastas, curries, soups, and other things on a large menu with a festive environment. Food: I give them a 3/5 We did the 2 for 10.99 deal. From that deal you can order anything that is marked as qualifying for this deal. You can choose from hamburgers, lasagne, Hunter's chicken, and even chicken masala or vegetable tikka! So we ordered the following: Vegetable tikka: I don't like peppers and this one had a lot of peppers. So if you're someone like me, ask them to remove ahead of time. This seemed to be about a 3/5 in flavoring as my sister didn't even finish 1/3 of her portion. Came with basamati rice and naan. The naan seemed alright and the basmati rice also seemed ok. Hunters Chicken: A chicken breast with bacon put in the middle with some sauce on top. Came with onion rings and wedge fries. Chicken was alright- a little dry for my liking, but the bacon probably helped in keeping it moist Classic Lasagne: This is a beef lasagne with a generous amount of cheese on top baked in its own small dish. The beef was enough for you to see. Lasagne was a little ovvercooked for my liking. And a generous helping of cheese. Very hearty and rich and warm for anyone wanting a good comfort food to keep them warm on a cold day. Soup of the day- Potato Leek- This soup was also pretty good. Add a dash of pepper on top and you're set to go. Not too creamy and not too watery, flavor was just right. 5 a Day Salad- Definitely recommend this if you're someone tired of the Caesar or typical house salad- this one is one of the most unique blends I've ever seen. It had avocado (unripe, you can taste the weird watery texture), green grapes, tomatoes, lettuce, and some red kinda veggie that I wasn't a fan of. But if you need greens, this is the way to go. Service: you order at the bar counter and then sit down. Our waiter was attentive enough. Friendly enough staff so they get a 4/5 for service. Bang for buck: 5/5 2 main courses for 10.99??? You can't beat that kinda deal if you're on a budget. Def recommend. and desserts are 2 for 6 pounds.

Hopped off the bus, walked 2 minutes and straight in to this gem. A must stop for a pint and a…read morequick bite to eat. Friendly staff and nice open seating.

I spend WAY too much money and time at the Rule…read more This place bills itself as a 'pub-diner' and it really depends on what it is, atmosphere-wise, on when you come. It does have very good food, and some great deals on offer. My particular favourite is the breakfast special, which I in fact eat WAY too often. It doesn't help that its so very close to my academic building and the hour break we have between Latin and Palaeography suits perfectly for a late breakfast, or as I like to call it, 'Elevensies'. Plus, what you get is just too great. They have 2 breakfast deals, one is the standard breakfast special, the other the 'big breakfast'. The breakfast special USED to come with an egg, toast, a sausage, a rasher of bacon, mushrooms, tomato and hash browns, all for £3.50. AND it included a drink! But since they re-did the menu its now something like the egg, bacon, sausage, toast, tomato, no mushrooms and instead of hashbrowns you get a tattie scone and haggis. And they lowered the price. But in exchange, you don't get a free drink anymore, so you're essentially paying the same price anyway. Tricksy hobbitses. They have plenty of other fare on their menu. When a friend came to visit me in November, we got the sampler platter which was pretty good. But overall, I would stick to the breakfasts. That is what they do really well. They have all sorts of other things on offer like soups and pizza and fish and chips, but honestly, this place is probably best described as a bar that serves really good breakfasts. And now, for something completely different, I'm going to stop rambling and talk about the bar. The Rule seems to be a pretty decent social spot. Whenever I go, they seem to be doing decent business and be pretty well full. They have a full bar, with a pretty good selection. I mostly drink beer, which they have quite a few varieties of for decent prices, and I'm told they do really good cocktails and have lots of drinks specials and such. But, as I'm a 'beer-and-shots' man myself, I wouldn't know from personal experience. Socially, pretty good crowds, usually. At least during term time, pretty active with students. I usually wind up here at some point during my nights out, because its a very good bar with a nice scene and decent prices. Plus, they actually play decent music. Also, if you aren't here on a night out, but want a place with a bunch of big screen tellys and a large group of dedicated sports fans to watch sports with, the Rule is your spot. MASSIVE tellys. And just about every Saturday (or whenever matches are on, really) there are plenty of people there to watch with you. Especially if its football (not the American one) or Rugby. Oh yeah, and on Mondays at 20.30 there is a pub quiz with free pizza for all teams and cash prizes. I've never gotten a team together in time to actually participate, but I hear its great. So, yeah, to recap: 1. Breakfasts: MOUTHGASM. SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY. 2. Bar: Good selection, decent prices, vibrant social scene So, overall: 8/10. Would bang.

Odd little bar, but a nice place to sit and have a drink or some food…read more The brews were all oddly named and interesting. We tried some lagers and a few ciders, all of which were great. The food was tasty, burgers and charcuterie board went down well. Service ranged from good to disinterested/grumpy.

Had dinner here and I would say it was just ok. First off, we got a starter of the Haggis Balls. I…read morehadn't tried Haggis before, so wanted to give it a shot, but they weren't great - a little sour tasting maybe? Not horrible, but not something I would order again. Someone else in our party liked Haggis and also thought these weren't good. So I would pass on these next time. For dinner, I initially ordered fish & chips, but they were out of the fish, so went for the Steak Sandwich. It was good, but not great. Others in our party had nachos, the battered chicken burger, and a Hawaiian pizza. Similar to my experience, I think they thought they were fine. For beers, the Yippee IPA was very good. I thought it was supposed to be a hazy, but didn't have the cloudiness to it, so I guess not. Had a higher IBU, but didn't taste bitter to me. Otherwise, just had a standard lager and then the Hazy Helles, which was ok, not great. Service was just average, as well. With the missing dinner items and then maybe being checked on once or twice, was just ok. The place has a cool vibe, though, and nice atmosphere.
