An enormous variety of goods ranging from souvenirs and neat gifts in the Gift Shop, all sorts of outdoor clothing - not just for in the garden but raincoats, casual gear for men and women and all the seasons, plants, turf, trees, fish, parrots, rabbits and more - and all your needs for your pets. Then organize day trips to a wide variety of places - and not to forget the REALLY good restaurant that does breakfast, lunch, afternoon teas (High Tea) and bargain dinners. Indeed today Mrs G and I had 2 two course dinners for 12 pounds ($16-17 for TWO!!). I had beef bourguignon, while Mrs G had a Quiche Lorraine with chips and peas/salad, and then I had apple pie with custard while she had lemon meringue pie. This local shop has been here on the circle for over 50 years to my knowledge the current owner is the 3rd generation of lennons to be providing such great service.In current ecnomic climate it is nice to see small family business still survive here on the circle. If you are local you should alredy know this shop, if you havent been lately , you should. we need more independent shops like ths where customer service is still above profits. It is worth looking in Gee Jays before buying anything from B&Q or similar places. They have stock clearance items and regular stock as well. The stock varies widely and is regularly updated to accommodate seasonal stock. If you are doing a spot of DIY I imagine you can get everything from here, as they have paint, brushes and cleaning equipment. The main downsides to this shop are: 1) Parking, there are a few spaces on the road outside, but the shop is a 5 min walk out of town; 2) Accessibilty with wheelchair, pram or similar. I find it hard to navigate a pram around, so have to make arrangements to go there on my own.

Byrkley Park is a large garden centre just outside Burton on Trent, near Rangemore, accessed by a…read moretree lined lane, and geographically near to St Georges Park. The car park is spacious and well landscaped with mature trees and even its own small traffic island. Inside you are initially taken into an area of house plants, solid oak furniture, and a myriad of products for birds. To the left is the Topiary Restaurant, a large spacious eating area, with variable seating, that attracts many visitors, it has a good range of hot and cold food, and drinks. The roast dinners are fairly impressive, but other products can be a little hit or miss, the cakes we had today were lovely, the brownie with hazelnuts and the non-fat fruit cake were packed with flavour, but on some visits the cakes have been so dry, they have been virtually inedible. The outside plant area, is the main reason we would come to Byrkley, the range of plants, trees and shrubs, as well as other products like gravel, fencing and pots are very impressive. But most of all the plants are healthy, and competitively priced, if you're prepared to buy a smaller plant and let it grow on. There are always pretty good deals, if you like to buy multiple plants. Inside is a good range of other garden items like tools, garden furniture, seeds etc. Byrkley also has a range of other areas, selling different products, not normally associated with a garden centre. Maybe I'm just old fashioned, I like garden centres to just sell plants and maybe have an adjoining cafe, but I suspect that would not cover the overheads of such a large concern. So, Byrkley also has three clothing areas including Cotton Traders and Edinburgh Woollen Mill; old fashioned, yes, but I am not their target audience. They also have an area selling pictures, cards, candles, ornaments etc. There is a small jewellery shop selling some unusual items, that would be perfect for a gift and a craft shop, that has expanded rapidly, with the advent of people making their own cards, painting etc. There is a small bookstore, which is good for a bargain, a delicatessen selling amongst other things, homemade chocolates and an impressive cookware shop too. The staff are friendly and offer useful advice particularly on the plant side, which is refreshing, and they do offer a garden club scheme, where you can pay £10 per year, and amongst other benefits gain 10% off all plant related products.

Jeffries is a huge hardware business that stocks all the standard nuts and bolts plus a huge selection of outdoor planting, perfect for this time of year, and has a large gardening section at the rear of the store. Recently I was after some fence protector and after a visit to a huge DIY shop felt frazzled by the choice in products, colours and price. One trip to Jeffries and I got exactly what I needed, no fuss, a great price and I parked my car at the rear of the store to load up. I also recently discovered they do key cutting. They stock a wide selection of pet products. The beauty of this place is that they've always got what you need and know exactly what you are asking for. On the very slim chance they don't stock what you are after they know where you should go to get it. Amazing staff and service.

It has a very good choice of plants many of which are grown in the nursery. Selling mostly cottage garden style plants, they have a very good choice of flowers, bulbs, bedding plants and ready made hanging baskets. There are a few very large glass houses offering a huge range of flowers. They also offer a decent range of climbers and fruit trees. The plants are competitively priced and can often be cheaper than the larger more commercial garden centres. However, their choice of plants are far more restricted, so don't expect to go there and find more exotic varieties. There is also a farm shop at the back of the nursery selling various meats and eggs grown on the property. During the summer the also have an open garden which is absolutely stunning to walk through. You do have to pay extra to enter this garden and walk around. The parking facilities are more than adequate for the number of visitors that the nursery attracts. Even if you don't go to buy anything, then it is quite nice just to park up and wander around.
