Being a brit in Paris, I was delighted to see a Big British brand in WH Smith, this is one of the few British Bookstores in the city, I must reiterate the comments in a few other reviews that the self-proclaimed first British Book Store nearby which "is never open" was... not actually open. It had an old book store vibe to it, they also had a small range of drinks which were overpriced but where isn't in Paris? They had books mainly in English, I think they had a few French ones too. The store wasn't as modern inside and it didn't have the typical WHSmith experience which one would get in the UK, but it was a decent store nonetheless. They really do need to work on the entrances though, the only entrance due to COVID is up steps which wouldn't be disabled friendly, meanwhile, the front entrance is used as an exit - surely they should just use one door each for the front to accommodate everybody? 3* - Not a bad book store overall, a familiar brand which I like, service impersonal and prices a little high though. read more

Very cute British bookstore in Paris. They have a lot of English options, but then also options in French. What was really great about it was the British snacks, and drinks. Was able to snag some Cadbury creme eggs, and other delicacies. Cute souvenirs as well. Good prices on books, and a really cute space. Highly recommend if you're in the neighborhood read more

This place was such a refuge from the chaos of the Louvre and the Jardin des Tuileries on a hot summer day. I had a wonderful iced tea in the cafe. Service was pleasant but they're pretty short staffed so be patient with that. Didn't have time or space for high tea but I would consider returning for it. The bookstore was awesome too. As an American self-proclaimed bibliophile, I LOVED checking out a cool selection of books that I can actually read but are also different than what I would find back home. It's a chain bookstore, it's on a tourist stretch, and it's all English all the time. You'd think I'd feel at least a smidgen of guilt over loving this bookstore as much as I do, but I really can't be bothered. WH Smith is great for a book-loving American in Paris, especially one who gets a huge kick out of buying the British edition of books that have yet to come out in the US and then taunting her bibliophile friends about it. Great selection of English books at fair prices. The very best part for me was the incredibly friendly warm and welcoming staff. I asked the information desk about a book promo and right away I got a friendly greeting and answer (in English without them seeming upset at my poor attempts to speak French as a visitor ). The man at the cashier was equally friendly and very sincere in it too. When I lived in Paris this was my favorite book store, not only because the books were in English but the atmosphere was charming and quaint. I loved that it was open on Sunday's which is rare in Paris... I always seemed to end up here. It's in a good location as well, near the Louvre and the Jardin de Tuileries! While I was in Paris I was working as an Au Pair and I found there were plenty of material here that I used in order to help teach English.. Most hotels have already had their FTE taken by a guest and there were none around. Most of the news stands were closed on Sunday was well. So I hiked 1.5k to find and purchase the FT! Eureka! The Parisian staff of UK-based WH Smith would be wise to learn the number one rule about social interactions in the UK: it's not attractive to be snooty and higher-than-thou. The bookstore is great. It has mulitple floors filled with books. But you don't go to a bookstore simply for the merchandise; you go to speak with booksellers. That is, after all, their job. So it's a shame that we generalize based on a few bad experiences, but the three times I've been to this place, the employees have been snarky and overly Parisian about their stature. When I asked for recommendations, they weren't helpful at all. When I asked about getting my debut novel in their store, they told me, "I doubt you would be able to get in with us." Once they realized that, in fact, I was working with one of their partners, they became ingratiating and apologetic, but the damage was done. Come to WH Smith if you know what you want, but don't expect English hospitality to have joined WH Smith across the pond. read more

This store is always open when I come to Paris unlike the other English bookstore who totes the famous sign stating that they are the first English book store on the continent. WH Smith has a very good selection of books in all genres plus magazines and best of all you can find some wonderful American and British treats upstairs ranging from Dr Pepper to Cadbury eggs and Skippy peanut butter. For a tourist visiting not a big deal, but for an expat missing things from home, it's like found treasure. did I mention Kellogs pop tarts? Those too! read more

For 9 years of travels to Paris, I have always enjoyed popping in here. First, and Jackie H did a good job on this, this is the store to get books in English that are the latest releases from Britain. As you would imagine, in the area of British history, there is a never-ending outpouring of books on WWI, WWII and other military episodes - great books but hard to discover in America. This is the place for me to grab that book for the plane flight home (and usually three more). And the books here are ones I don't see on the online sites. This is a two-story English bookstore. As a sign of the times perhaps, one room of books has been cleared out to make space for a tea room and chill out/laptop space. Could be nice, but give me the books. Overall, this is a great bookstore for English readers. I even enjoy this location more than some of the WH Smith bookstores in London. Location is easy to find on Rue de Rivoli - across from Jardin des Tulieries, close to Place Vendome, Place de la Concorde (the obelisk), Musee' de l'Orangerie, and not too far from Louvre. read more

If you are looking for typical english books and series, this is the place to go to! They have a wide range of books, for childrens, as well for adults! And if they don't have it they can always order it! Every salesman is fluant in English, so if you have any questions you will be able to ask them in french and in English! read more

I lived in Paris for over five years; if the "Lost Generation" had Shakespeare & Company, the last few generations have had WH Smith.
