I object to the fact that small non-motorized boats, e.g. canoes, are not permitted on most reservoirs. A man/woman/child in a canoe represents no more threat to water quality than a man on shore.Fishing, even from shore, produces more threats to water quality than a man paddling a canoe. The kinds of water bodies which are ideal for reservoirs are, in most ways, identical to the kinds we desire most for paddling. As a result, virtually ALL of our best paddling ponds are reservoirs, most of which exclude canoes (my own particular interest, in case that was not obvious)! I think we in MA need to lighten up a bit, and recognize that small, non-motorized boating is a legitimate, BENIGN use of these waters, and open them up for that kind of passive recreation. No harm would be done! read more
