We were so disappointed that Medicaid/Medicare options are not available to assist with some of the cost. If you are searching for senior living that provides transition care across life stages, and have solid financial resources to cover the cost, The Village is one of the best settings we've seen.

Where to start......My mother in law has been living at AvantGarde for 2 weeks - she has Dementia…read more(short term memory issues) and it was getting to the point where she needed not only care but stimulation. The staff here is amazing, they don't just do their jobs (and they do them well) they are all very kind, supportive and loving toward her. This is a woman who would not leave her apartment, slept until noon, getting her to get dressed was a big task but her nature is social. She was famous in her youth and a singer / dancer. I could not believe that she was up and out of her room (DRESSED) by 8am and didn't return until after 5PM on day 2. EVERY SINGLE DAY she is kept active, she's singing with the pianist, playing bingo, watching movies, doing arts and crafts AND they told me she was participating in the morning walk! One of the ladies there sent me a video of her singing with the pianist today - she is in her element. Her Doctor comes to her every month (more if she needed him). I was weary that they would not be able to get her out of her room and get her dressed. AvantGarde has surpassed my expectations. I can travel without worry, I can visit her without me being the caretaker, I can rest easy knowing she is having a great time and in loving, capable hands.

Based on direct knowledge and firsthand accounts, I have serious concerns about how residents are being treated. One resident I know personally was not properly cared for after a fall. After that incident, she was reportedly not assisted with meals or monitored to ensure she ate for three days. Her room has flooded twice, and because of how often this happens, it reportedly smells of mold, which raises serious health concerns. After the second flood, she was abruptly dismissed from her room so it could be cleaned and was not allowed to gather her phone, shoes, or any personal belongings. She was sent out in the middle of December wearing only sandals and no sweater. This showed a complete lack of concern for her safety, comfort, or dignity. What is most disturbing is the lack of empathy. This is a facility entrusted with the care of vulnerable seniors, yet the focus appears to be convenience and profit rather than basic human compassion. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS FACILITY!!!! Please choose another place. No one's loved one deserves to be treated this way.

Luckily, I found Jasmine Terrace! From the moment I started looking into facilities I felt very comfortable at Jasmine Terrace. My first encounter was with Lori, who gave me a tour and explained everything that the facility had to offer. Lori was so helpful with all my questions and concerns. She was so caring not just for my father but for me and making the decision of moving my father into a facility. To this day Lori has a genuine concern for my father's well being. My father has been at Jasmine Terrace for over two months now, and he is doing so well, so much that his doctor agreed to lower his medications. Every time I visit, he is clean & shaven and his room is always clean. His day nurse "Glenda" is great with him! The night staff and all the aides are so caring & comforting. I visit him a lot and I watch how they care for all the patients. I know with all the different levels of patients, their job can't be easy, but they make it look so effortless. They really know their patients, and they have really gotten to know my father too. When my father and I walk around the property, every staff member knows him by name and always say hello and get him to smile. I was worried about my father wandering or trying to "escape" from a facility, but this has never happened. I attribute this to the level of care and great staff that watch over my father. Although it is a memory care facility, most patients have the ability to walk around the entire facility & courtyard - this was perfect for my father who loves to walk constantly and loves being outdoors in the courtyard. Dealing with Virgina (older Filipino lady) to do an intake is the biggest waste of time. She is so…read moreunprofessional and sloppy, it is very frustrating corresponding back and forth with her when she goes out of town so often for "family emergencies", and is the main point of contact for intake. My mother is an Air Force vet that has frontotemporal dementia. She is 63, which is a little early to be experiencing this. I went on a tour of this facility back in January, so this has been a very slow process. I told Virgina my mothers age the day of the tour where she wrote it down, as well as other details such as the current facility my mother is at. I was concerned when I would call back to check on the process that she would ask me the same questions over and over, as if Virgina is suffering from dementia herself. She has been making false promises since February when she verbally told me my mother was approved to move in the first week of march. The first week rolled around and I didn't hear anything from Virgina, so i called her direct cell where i have been getting sent to voicemail ever since because she apparently has been having back to back family emergencies or events where she goes out of town (lol). She will send you to voicemail, then ask to call back later through text. I guess this facility was rieed of my checking on the status of the placement because they finally determined today after months of deliberation that my mother is suddenly "too young". This was already after Virginia said she would be moving within a week. They knew my mother's age months ago, it seems as if they are just lazy and want to pick and choose who to care for. Glad they showed their true colors before I sent the person I love the most in the world here... if anyone can suggest facilities that are diverse and have caring staff (as my mother is black), I would be totally open to suggestions because I am starting from square one again.

Being there is like being hooked to an oxygen tank and can breath again. I could never say a bad thing about this place. The friends I've made while there are still my friends today. The staff & all the women there genuinely care about you, love you & teach you how to be a lady. Casa loved me & continues to love me until I can one day love myself. The women's meeting on Thursday night is by far the most energetic, meaningful, hopeful & strengthening meeting I have ever went to. The solution is conveyed there. I learned more about myself at Casa then I ever have anywhere else. Casa will always be home. Once a Casa girl always a Casa girl.

We both missed each other's calls a few times. Her last call to me was Thursday, and I returned the call Tuesday. When I called, Laura immediately told me in a very condescending and dismissive tone that "that was a long time ago" and that I needed to contact Kaiser again. I completely understand if a new referral was required, and I can acknowledge that I could have called back sooner. My issue is not the policy it's the way I was spoken to. This is a recovery center. The people calling are often already struggling, hesitant, or trying to get themselves to accept help. A little compassion goes a long way. I've dealt with another treatment center where the staff were patient, welcoming, and persistent about helping someone get into treatment, so the difference was immediately noticeable. I had read several reviews describing staff as rude or condescending before calling, and unfortunately my interaction made me understand exactly what those reviewers were talking about. Based on the number of similar reviews, I'm not particularly confident this feedback will be taken into consideration. Some of the responses and experiences described honestly come across to me as more defensive than receptive to criticism. If you've had or end up having a great experience here, I genuinely hope that continues. I can only speak about my interaction, but when someone is reaching out for help with recovery, they should not be made to feel like an inconvenience for calling back. This interaction alone was enough to turn me away and look elsewhere.

Over the weekend, I visited of my Sister and thought that everything looked really clean and well maintained, they remodeled the building I was actually really impressed! My Sister told me that she was being treated very well and even The Activity Staff and Nurses come in and read her a story! All physicians in the Pasadena area know this place is horrible and it's really sad. Most people that get sent here aren't from the area so they don't know. They openly talked badly about their coworkers out loud, which is extremely unprofessional and inappropriate--especially in front of patients and visitors. Their behavior created an uncomfortable and hostile environment. That being said, I do want to acknowledge that the girls in Activities were very sweet, kind, and attentive with my grandpa. They were one of the few bright spots during an otherwise upsetting experience. Overall, this facility needs serious oversight, better hygiene standards, and staff who conduct themselves professionally and with basic human decency. I would not recommend this place to anyone who cares about cleanliness, respect, and proper patient care.
