A small space, mostly underground, but quiet and clean. It's free to look around, and though I received a brief greeting, by and large there weren't people around when I was there. I stumbled upon an intriguing exhibit which amounted to a Punch and Judy show-style response to antisemitism. It was a bit out there, but in substance was less tone-deaf than some of the other exhibits I've been to. There's also the simple value of having restrooms, air conditioning, and water available on a hot summer day. Exhibits will vary, but I think this is likely to be a stop that is more than worth the short amount of time you're likely to spend on it. read more

This is a pretty small gallery with more sculptures than art. A lot of the sculptures was just repeating itself in different colors so it didn't feel like we were really seeing much, but it was free so we're happy to have been able to stop in! read more

I was not aware that this little art gallery existed. Today when we were waiting for someone we were eating lunch with at V's Cafe, we walked out of their doors and into this small lovely gallery. There was the main floor and a lower level basement area to this gallery. There was a very eclectic assortment of art pieces. All would fit under "modern" art, though. All was free. There is a box before you go down the steps though for cash donations. If you are walking around downtown, at V's Cafe or the Aronoff make sure to stop and check this gallery out. Very nice, intimate, well sized gallery right next to Aronoff Center for the Arts. Today I saw 5 sculptures from CANstruction, really amazing! What a wonderful concept: the sculptures are made entirely of cans or packages of food and represent flying pig, a donut, Mr Redleg etc. They must be constructed in 4 hours and after the meal for the soul (for everyone to enjoy for FREE), they are donated to the FoodBank for meals to the body. The sculptures are rated by best use of labels, best nutrition value, best concept etc.! One critical remark: the venue was much too small to squeeze 5 scultpures, as they must be enjoyed from the distance, to even see what they represent. This will definitely not be my last time at the gallery! read more

I came here the other night for one of their many Friday evening gallery openings. This one featured many different types of work. Each one is different with features from different artists and different types of work. I've never realized that this corner inside the Aronoff Center is actually it's own independent gallery. I've noticed things through the window but figured that it was an extension of the lobby and there was just art on display. There's more inside this iceberg! There was a reception in the room to the left with a bar and some crackers and cheese and other snacks. Then in the main hall there was a good amount of art placed throughout the space. Little did I know there were also stairs that led down to a lower gallery space. This is where the majority of the works were. It's was a great event! The interesting thing (and I think it's a summer program) was that there were bunches of elementary school age kids working as gallery hosts. They were all dressed up nicely and wearing name tags and walking around explaining the art and showing people their favorite pieces. It was really cute! read more

The Weston Art Gallery is part of the Cincinnati Art Association, this the gallery you see on the corner of 7th & Walnut connected to the Aronoff Center. Year after year the Weston team curates an intriguing mix of local an regional artists, which runs the same time as the Aronoff season fall to spring, when you visit the gallery, you start upstairs & then walk downstairs to the larger space. I enjoy going to the show openings as there's always a lively crowd, throughout the year they also have evenings with the artists, where the artists on display discuss their work in the exhibition. The Weston also has a great program Docentitos Academy, an art ambassador program which trains 9-12 year olds to be docents for the gallery, wow I wish there was a program like this when I was younger, what a way to create a love for art at a young age. All of the artwork in the gallery is for sale, I purchased a Michael Wilson print at a show a few years ago, love how Weston Gallery keeping our love for local & regional artists alive. read more

This gallery is fantastic for so many reasons. I first spent time here as a kid. They have a great summer program (I believe that it used to be free) where you spend a week or two getting to know the artists. Then, at the opening, you get to be a decentito and lead tours! The opening are always lovely. They are free and open to the public. They provide finger food and a cash bar. It's always modern art and usually features local artists. I love that it supports the art in our city! Also, it's open before shows at the Aronoff and is the perfect thing to visit if you arrive early. read more

The Weston Art Gallery is on the corner of 7th and Walnut. It's easy to miss. While large, this gallery is easily consumed by the Aronoff Center, but next time you're downtown, stop in and take a look around. It's a great space. The upper floor has a reception area is able to accommodate oversize art pieces. The lower level - although modern and filled with contemporary art - is warm and welcoming. The staff is also welcoming. I'm always a little hestitant to go to museums anymore because the default mode seems to be patrons are pervs just waiting to defile art with lude behavior so we must stalk them throughout. Not here. You can wander and browse, but easily get informed on a piece if need be. read more

Once a week, during my lunch break, I like to get out of my office and get some culture. This week, I went to the Weston Gallery. It's small, but the exhibit by Tom Bacher made a huge impact. I have been to downtown Cincy probably about a zillion and one times, and although I always saw the Weston, I just never went in for some reason. It feels a bit intimidating to walk through it's doors. Cincy has many beautifully decorated buildings within the city limits, that are not really for us to just peruse the art work. I wasn't sure if this was one of those places, despite the name of being a gallery. We were going to a show at the Aronoff Center, and decided to meander around for a bit. We decided to brave the consequences of randomly walking in, and were very surprised by what we discovered. Upstairs had several displays, many of which I can say stands true to the old adage, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." There was a looping video playing on two t.v's which seemed to be about a woman's feet. She dipped them in paint, bent her toes in weird ways...etc. I felt a bit weirded out... but inspired nonetheless. There were many other pieces upstairs, and not a single other person was anywhere to be found. It was like our own private art gallery for a bit. We noticed the downstairs section and it looked a bit foreboding. "Should we go down there?" I asked my honey. "It's up to you." So if we walk into our eminent death, it's my fault... see what he does??? But, death was not to be our fate, oh no... a whole area full of artwork was waiting for us. It felt a bit dungeon like, but that added to the allure for me. As we walked, taking in each piece, I recounted how glad I was that we decided to take this risk. There was a woman downstairs just to watch the artwork I'm sure. She said hello to us, and then it was back to silence. As we wondered around looking at all the work, some interesting and creepy music started to play.. it was like we were on the set of a scary movie for a minute. The other room held interesting works of photography that showed me our city in a very unique light. The artist had taken photos from the city in the 1800's and morphed them with google earth images. The results were very neat indeed. All in all, this isn't a place I'd make a special trip downtown to go see, but if I'm already down there I'd definitely stop in. This gallery is a bit odd in design as most of it is in the basement and not visible from street level. Typically, this gallery showcases modern art and is often full of unique and perplexing art. The gallery staff are very nice. Parking in the area can be difficult unless you valet or use a garage. Street parking is often restricted to the valets for Jeff Ruby's across the street. :( Check the gallery website for special events and unique exhibits. I've been to Weston a couple of times; first for a Broadway Cincy reception, then later I returned to view the gallery exhibits. Throughout March, the Weston featured the CANstruction exhibit, in which local architecture firms built sculptures out of canned goods. The food is later donated to Freestore Foodbank. Each of the sculptures were installed in a 10'x10'x10' space and were very large and detailed. We saw everything from a Koolaid Man busting through a wall to Arc D'Triumph to an Angry Birds scene. The Weston is a small, inconspicuous gallery located by the main entrance of The Aronoff. It's free and is open daily except for Mondays. Also, the gallery is open during intermission at Aronoff performances. Just head over to the far left near the bathrooms and gourmet chocolate booth and Weston is right through the doors. It's a wonderful way to stretch your legs and your mind between acts! Cost: FREE read more

The Weston Art Gallery is one of my favorite art galleries in Cincinnati. It has a bright spacious lobby with glass walls. The lobby always has a large and fun attention getting exhibit that is visible from the street. The one last night involved climbing up a tall scaffolding display! At the bottom of the stairs at the entrance to the main gallery there was a small table of finger food including fruits, vegetables, cheeses and more. There was also a cash bar. The main gallery always has interesting works from several different artists. The exhibit that I saw last night had an architectural theme made from an assortment of building materials. There was also some framed art. This is a fun venue. It is the best way to enter the Aronoff Center when attending a show because if you have a few extra minutes you can check out some art. There are always gallery talks by the artists toward the beginning of each new exhibit. Elevators are conveniently located for those who need them. I went to the opening of the latest exhibit at the Weston art gallery Material Witness. It is well worth seeing. The Weston is a great space for exhibits. It has space for very large works of arts. Material Witness has some of those. I have also been there for shows which is primarily photographs and smaller pictures, so it can handle both. Opening nights for their exhibits are great, they have a spread of good food and you can buy drinks. I was talking to the curator of the exhibit and he mentioned how great the Weston Gallery is for the local arts community, It really support the local art community and many of the exhibits they have local connections. It is larger than it looks at street level since there is additional space downstairs. Even though it is in the Arnoff complex, it is a separate entity from the theatres and has their own program. One of the best things about it too is that it is free. If you don't to make a special trip to go to it, if you ever go to the Arnoff or any of the other restaurants bars around there, just take a few minutes to check it out. I saw a review about how friendly the staff is there. Many of them are volunteers, since it is free, and they are very friendly and helpful. Each exhibit there is very different, so if one doesn't appeal to you the next one may. So, if you have been there and did not like a specific exhibit give it another try. read more

I try to never miss exhibitions at the Weston. While I admit it's a somewhat peculiar space for an art gallery (almost as though an afterthought), the director, Dennis Harrington, does an exceptional job curating and designing the exhibitions producing consistently top flight presentations. In fact the entire staff is superb: low key, courteous, informative, never snooty or dismissive. The gallery is focused on regional work and holds its own with local institutions featuring national and international art. I would have to disagree with some of the reviews I've read here to say if you're interested in art and want to know what is going on in this part of the country, the Weston should indeed be a destination for you. read more
