Whether she's making the rounds as the cart girl or serving drinks at the bar, Sydney goes above and beyond to make every member feel welcome and taken care of. She's always quick with a cold drink and a kind word, and it's clear she genuinely cares about creating a great atmosphere for everyone. The club is lucky to have her, and we're even luckier to be greeted by her each time we're out on the course!

But that is not why I am willing to drive long distances to play the wonderful game of Golf. It's because I enjoy playing on a golf course that are difficult to get on unless you're a member. And if a family or friend invites to you to play, I never say no. The Vineyards Golf Course is a beautifully designed course that easily blends in with its surroundings. The course has three set of tee boxes which we chose to play the back tees of course. Why??, well because the young men I was playing with can drive ball 300 yards plus and sometimes on the fairway. It sure did not help my game when I attempted to drive the ball the distances they seem capable. I found the Vineyards golf course challenging with its rolling fairways, protected by large meandering sand bunkers, false fronts and hazards. We had a windy day that played in our favor on some holes and others which easily challenged us. The par-3 holes were a variety in length, direction and difficulty. The secondary roughs had fescue grasses and in some cases we were lined up along a corn field farm. Vineyards was much more challenging than I anticipated, but I very much enjoyed the course and would love to play there again before the season ends.

Indian Hills Country Club was designed by Alfred Tull and opened originally in 1961. The course is 6,631 yards of golf from the back tees for a par of 72 and has a rating of 72.6 with a slope rating of 138 on Rye grass. The golf club is in the close vicinity of the Crab Meadow wetlands and the Long Island Sound. The golf course has several golf holes that have beautiful waterfront views. The senic golf course has an appealing and challenging layout with undulating elevation changes. The club house is quaint and very comfortable, but in a need of a face lift which I believe is in the works soon. I was invited as a guest and it was my first time out playing the game since my rib injury, so I was somewhat challenged by the track's natural beauty. This is one of the most picturesque golf courses that I have played on Long Island. I look forward to returning soon.

Both of the holes are directly on the waterfront of the Long Island Sound. Words cannot describe the location of this golf course. With not one but two waterfront holes, this is easily one of Long Island's best kept secrets in terms of Luxury Golf Courses. Incredible views, great fairways and greens! A MUST GO TO COURSE if you strive to play the best courses on Long Island!

Pine Hills Country Club: A Disgrace to Golf Where do I even…read morestart with Pine Hills Country Club? This so-called "golf course" is an absolute travesty, a blight on the sport that should be bulldozed and turned into a landfill--because that's about all it's good for. I've played municipal courses in the middle of nowhere that put this dump to shame, and I'm not exaggerating when I say this was one of the worst golfing experiences of my life. First off, the course conditions are beyond deplorable. The fairways are so hard and patchy they might as well be concrete with a side of crabgrass. I'm pretty sure my ball bounced into another county after hitting what was supposed to be a fairway. Aeration? Never heard of it, apparently. The greens--oh, don't get me started--are an unholy mix of dirt, weeds, and what looks like the aftermath of a lawnmower massacre. They're so slow and bumpy you'd have better luck putting on a gravel driveway. And the bunkers? Let's just say they're more like abandoned sandpits where dreams go to die. No sand, just rocks and regret. The layout itself is a cruel joke. It's like someone took a decent course design, got blind drunk, and scribbled over it with a crayon. Holes crisscross in ways that make no sense, and don't even think about finding your way without a GPS, a compass, and a prayer. Signage? Ha! You're lucky if you can figure out which hole you're on without asking the groundskeeper--if you can find one. Speaking of which, the staff here act like they're doing you a favor by letting you play this garbage heap. Customer service is non-existent; the guy at the clubhouse looked like he'd rather be anywhere else, and I don't blame him. Amenities? What amenities? There's no food, no drinks, not even a cube of ice to cool your rage after three-putting a green that's more divot than grass. The cart paths are crumbling, the carts themselves are barely functional, and don't even think about a practice area that's worth a damn. The putting green is just another sad patch of earth, and the driving range might as well be a field for grazing cattle. And let's talk about value--$5 would be too much for this disaster. I paid good money to suffer through this, and I'd rather have burned it for warmth. The course has "potential," they say, but that's just code for "we've given up." New management? Doesn't matter when the whole place feels like it's been abandoned since the 90s. I've heard they're "working on improvements," but I'll believe it when I see it, and even then, it'd take a miracle to make this place playable. Save your time, money, and sanity--avoid Pine Hills Country Club like it's a biohazard. There are better places to play golf, like your backyard or a mini-golf course with plastic windmills. This place isn't just bad; it's an insult to anyone who loves the game.

We went for a Holiday gathering at the end of the year, and dinner was on a friend's parents who are members. The ambiance was stuffy, as these Country Clubs tend to be. But, I was here for the food--I ordered a pork belly appetizer, a steak, and a chocolate lava cake. The steak and dessert weren't so exceptional that I would discuss them, and that's why this isn't five stars. The pork belly appetizer was exceptional. It melted in my mouth better than any piece of bacon I have recently enjoyed. It sat on a bed of greens, with a sauce that matched it well. This is why I would come back if they would let me in the door. Keep in mind the place was huge and really nice, probably a great place to get married!

I cannot express my thanks enough to all of the staff and everyone involved. My only wish, I wish I could give it more than 5 stars. Sincerely, Scott G. Thares
