In the other flat, we found almost two boxes' worth of rotten strawberries, not including the many small strawberries mixed in. The rotten ones were hidden underneath the good-looking strawberries, so we couldn't see the issue when we bought them. The photo doesn't show all of the rotten strawberries because we had already thrown some away on the drive home while sorting through them. The amount we threw away could almost fill another box. We were pretty disappointed with the quality, especially considering how much we paid.

When you see one car, sometimes you get skeptical on why there is no one around and sometimes you may not make that turn to go to a place, luckily I don't have this complexity in my system and with my partner, we try to venture into joints like this. We just came from that other busy 'Farmer's Market' close to the theatres, so seeing this little people makes you wonder if there is anything in here, well you sometimes walk into surprises. Sure this place is not filled with the produce, or even the garden section, don't look for over and above, but for some main staples, like romaine lettuce, peppers, carrots, parsley, tomatoes, blueberries, and other non-exotics, come on in, you might be surprised on the selection, freshness, and price. The lady that was running the place that day was very friendly, and helpful too, guiding us to some sales they were having on some older vegetables where they were individually bagged, 6 for $1, believe me, this was a deal, we picked up a bag of asparagus which we cooked later on for lunch, tasted great, and got a bag of carrots for my rabbit at home. So, if somehow your along this stretch of road, need to stretch out your legs, come in here, she said they are opened every day, you may find something that you weren't really looking for, and go home with it.

I've heard that Richmond has better blueberries than Abbotsford, and I tend to believe that because Richmond's made of a delta of sand brought down by the river. I do like this farm's sweet and firm berries. They have a farmer's market selling other produce, too. Sounds like those are from other local farms. I can't comment on the price, because I'm not good at remembering what the "usual" prices are.

Growing slowly over the…read moreyears, some notable recurring vendors include the crepe van, Saltspring Island Cheese, Richmond Mushrooms, Wenger Sheep Farms, the vegan pate lady, and Earnest Ice Cream. When I want to get higher-end items, I end up going here more often than Granville Island. For large potential deals on farm-raised beef, chicken, duck, and lamb, you can't really go wrong here, because the farmers are always eager to talk and you can build up relations with some. A familiar face helps you to decide what cuts and if you are buying to stock up for winter, they will help you too with some incentive deals. Speaking of deals, as a member you can also end up seeing many special deals go up at the start of each month. Personally, I go here for specialized items, select meats, seafood, vegetables (heirloom tomatoes and eggplants in general), nuts, and fruit (particularly Rainier cherries in the mid-summer). Those items are already expensive but it's really untenable to try and shop here for all of your goods (e.g. $8/pound spinach), but it actually has very good select items (including some very rare shaggy mane, matsutake, and lobster mushrooms, as well as large fresh batches of chantrelles and morels when they are available). Shopping at a farmer's market in Vancouver is no deal when you compare it to any actual market (except maybe Urban Fare or Whole Foods), but for the quality it can't really be beat.

Living in Kits now, it's always fun to stroll up to Kits Farmer's Market. The line up moves…read morerelatively fast (15 minutes or less) and they've sorted out the directions you can go. They have cheese vendors, produce, eggs, meat, coffee, mushroom vendors, garlic vendors, bread, everything you need for cooking a slammin' local meal! A little disappointing that there aren't many jewelry, soap, or art vendors as I always like looking at these as well. Perhaps its because the footprint of this market is a bit small. Today I loaded up on some fresh garlic, sausages from Stapleton (my fave!), and buffalo feta cheese. I enjoy that there's a rotation of local food vendors though, as I've seen different ones there which makes it exciting to check out every once in a while so you'll get to support other local vendors too!

Everything not from their farm gave the specific location it came from. They carried just about everything I needed. I bought a wide variety of things. The produce lasted exceptionally long, the berries were still fresh over a week later. Best of all, although everything in BC was hyper-expensive, the total bill for everything was surprisingly cheap. Wish I could go back, but we were visiting from the states.

finally checked this off the list, i've been meaning to make it out to the west end farmer's market…read morefor awhile now, and i'm so glad i did. note: it runs until october 25th, so there's still only a few more saturdays to soak it all in. the market runs saturdays from 9 am to 2 pm, from may 3rd to october 25th, at 1100 comox street. it's a lovely neighbourhood spot, lined with trees decorated with cute little bird houses, tall sunflowers nodding in the breeze, and a nearby community garden that adds so much character. there's a nice mix of vendors, pottery, hazelnuts grown in the fraser valley, certified organic farms, honey, eggs, and fresh flowers. picked up a couple of stocking stuffers from the bowen island herb salts stand. there was even live music, giving everything a relaxed, friendly, local community feel. shop local, bring your eco friendly reusable shopping bags, and take your time wandering through. it's one of those markets that feels both cozy and full of little surprises. fair warning though, between the flowers, the snacks, and all the cute handmade goodies, it's way too easy to slip into "treat yourself" mode and walk away with a bag full of finds you didn't know you needed.

It's a chill vibe and vendors are friendly and don't try to push you to purchase anything. Prices are higher than your local supermarket but I don't mind paying more for quality goods while supporting local. A lot of the booths offered samples and we tried: non-dairy dips, bacon bits, peach & melon, berry wines, pumpkin wine, raspberry gin. We were able to find everything we needed for our bbq including organic produce, meat seasoning, perogies, vegan crackers with dip, wine and beer.

People, some with their dogs are leisurely strolling in between the stalls examining handmade jewellery, handmade soaps, dog snacks, a cookie shop, fresh produce and Japanese pastries to name a few. Entertainment from a lone guitarist filled the air with a pleasant vibe. I really like the easy going, relaxed atmosphere of this artisan market.
