This hotel has a ton of charm and the location is so serene with the waves crashing below the rooms. The location couldn't be better - pool that overlooks the ocean, direct beach access, right in town so you can walk everywhere so easily. The staff was wonderful as well. I ended up losing my passport, and Sarah at the front desk went well above and beyond to make sure it wasn't left in the room after we checked out. Like, WAY above and beyond. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the area, even over the more expensive, higher-end options. Hope to be back soon!

The staff is incredibly professional and attentive so check in and getting my parking pass was a breeze. The hotel sits right on the water so I believe most rooms probably have ocean views. Ours did and it was fantastic. The bar and dining room also have beautiful ocean views and they also have patio on the roof so you can sit and enjoy the open air and watch the ocean while you have a bite to eat or a drink. We really loved our stay here and will definitely stay again on our next trip to St. Ives.

My sisters wedding went without a hitch, and she was very pleased with her wedding arrangements, service, wedding planning and food at the reception and evening do. I have also had a high tea here with my parents - and thoroughly enjoyed the delicate sandwiches, tea and their wonderful sweets. Here is some information about the history - Built in 1894 by the renowned Cornish architect Silvanus Trevail, the Carbis Bay Hotel quickly gained popularity as a result of the boom in British seaside holidays, which had been made possible by expansion of the railways. Indeed, at the turn of the 19th century, neighbouring Carbis Bay station was a grand affair, boasting its own stationmaster, station house and full-time staff. Today, the business is owned and managed by the Baker family, who have made significant developments to the hotel. Due to this ongoing investment programme, Carbis Bay is widely recognised as one of Cornwall's premier waterside hotels. Cornwall has many stunning area's but St Ives has stolen my heart and run away with it. There are many different beaches to keep everyone from sun worshippers to surfers occupied. Porthmeor is a surfers paradise, a huge sandy beach with enormous waves provide the perfect setting for thrill seekers. Above Porthmeor stands the Tate Gallery, the ultimate place for any art lover. Porthgwidden is more secluded but again it has fantastic waves, a perfect family beach with lots of rock pools for the little ones to explore. It is also small enough to allow children to wander without ever losing eye contact, which as a parent is always a bonus. Porthminster is the most fashionable beach on offer in my opinion, it is a beautiful beach with a golf course and a resturant all on site. Perfect for any young couple. My personal favourite is Carbis Bay, this stunning beach just around the corner from St Ives but just as busy on the weekend. The sea is a lot calmer here which makes it easier to see the fantastic colours of the Atlantic Ocean. Unfortunately it is still extremely cold but when it's that beautiful who cares? The Carbis Bay hotel is just as stunning as the bay itself. Standing guard on a hillside over-looking the beach it's the perfect setting for a relaxing break. The hotel has many facilities, Amusement arcades for the youngsters, Resturant & well stocked bar for the adults, The jewel in the Carbis Bay hotels crown is however the roof terrace. Enough to satisfy any sun worshippers needs the roof terrace is home to a pool and a bar with a view to die for. I would highly recommend this hotel for families or couples that enjoy the pleasure of a lazy holiday! You would have to go to the Caribbean to find anything to match this superb coast line. I have been to the Caribbean where I paid one hundred pounds to see dolphins, the last time I took a trip to St Ives my family were treated to a visit from the local dolphins for free, not once but twice!

You can run down the private pathway out the back and zigzag your way to the beach below. Or keep going leftwards along the little road path bordering the beach for 5 minutes into St Ives town centre. St Ives railway station is just down below too. This hidden gem is wonderful for excursions out of St Ives round the coastal border to St Erth and Penzance beyond. You can just imagine the Victorian seaside trains arriving to disgorge their excited passengers right onto the fringes of Porthminster beach in years gone by. Even today, the line is used a lot. The hotel itself is OK. It somehow falls between 2 stools, trying to retain it's posh ambiance but let down by tired signs of some neglect. Instead of chucking out the carpets in the lobby and staircases for instance and going modern wooden chic, the carpets are old fashioned and actually threadbare in places. The decor is similar. A couple of brown water stains on the ceiling of the bedroom could easily have been painted out but no, up there they remain detracting from the image. On the other hand the breakfast / dining room is lovely; clean wooden floor, neat modern tables and chairs and a vast panoramic view out over the bay waters and beyond excellent. Breakfast itself was generous with a wide menu and more staff than guests. They have just built a little leisure centre at one end. Though it is really little, it is neat with an indoor plunge pool and fitness machines, so they are trying I suppose. They are also busily developing a chunk of their own land nest door, which used to have their gardens, an out door pool and parking facilities (still visible on the old Google satellite picture), so there is a bit of a building site adjacent at the moment, though it is not too obtrusive. The parking is a bit hit and miss now they've built on their own car park the porter will take your cherished E-Type away for you, somewhere round about, probably in the underground of the still to be finished apartment block opposite hmmm. I think overall, this a great place to stay with its location but it is overpriced for the poor attention to detail that would otherwise make all the difference. It should be 3.5 stars but I will lean towards the 4 because you still feel happy being there and the staff are very friendly and attentive. Where is that Hotel Inspector?

Book early in the summer this amazing location as well as fabulous hotel which is reasonably priced is very very popular! Sadly now closed!! :(

This is class, but definitely not pretention. There are only five suites here and we took the Master. It wasn't ridiculously large or furnished in royal ado, but was instead crisp, open. The French Doors opened to a private patio and harbourscape devoured our hectic senses. The facility itself is rather modern despite the 1920s history, what with smart minimalist furnishings, bright splashes of colour, a lovely terrace with sweeping period balustrade, quaint bar, and dining room. Though there are restaurants nearby, one can take a cold light supper or breakfast. Selections are delicious and include vegetarian options. The croissants were melt-in-your-mouth evil, and the fresh, strong coffee - divine. One of the hardest things was leaving; my spouse almost had a tear in the corner of his eye. Even recollecting this review has me eager to return.
