It was made into a patio type area. When I brought my daughters to check the place out on 7/19/2023, there honestly wasn't much to look at except for a few patriotic pieces. All of the pieces on display are from local artists. Some are for sale while some are labeled NFS or "not for sale." These art shows typically entail entry fees of around $10 per artwork. Guidelines apply. The next entry deadline will be in August for their popular Fan Art Show. For details go to https://lccanm.org They do offer classes from time to time mainly for kids in art, music, and readers theater. I saw a few parents dropping the kids. They are closed Sunday & Monday. So glad we have this opportunity in our community!

Honestly, I do wish we could have spent more time here because there's so many different sections and the displays are beautiful and full of information that people of all ages will enjoy. While there's obviously a heavy lean to only discuss the pros of oil and gas and the extraction of these resources (and sometimes the propaganda is painfully obvious), the detailed information in the different sections still makes it highly educational and we were very impressed by how many interactive displays there were. If you have any kids with you (or you're a kid at heart) make sure to go on the "ride" near the middle of the museum where you get to pretend you're on a flying ship to steal resources from the ocean and other countries. It's wild but very entertaining to press the touch screens and experience their little story! Just don't focus too hard on how you're shooting a laser into the ground of an independent, populated country to "claim" resources lol The best part of the entire museum for us was actually the mineral exhibit. Absolutely breathtaking samples from across Texas and around the world, and as big rock nerds we would have willingly spent a whole half hour just walking through the gorgeous room and looking at all the displays. Don't miss it! There's also beautiful art in this area, and that hallway winds around to the exhibit on race cars, which was a very fun way to end our tour of the museum. I'd recommend at least 1.5 hours to see everything, but you could probably spend more time just having fun and enjoying the interactive displays! A great museum that captures the history of oil and gas that built up this area of Texas, and so much of Texas' economy in general. Worth a stop for sure!

The mining pumps are amazing to see from the beginning of the era to the modern industrial era. I enjoyed learning about diatoms, the Permian Basin, shooters, and the difference between fracking and drilling. There are many classic race cars on display, and fun games to reinforce learning. I did not know that the U.S. produces the most oil in the world. I also did not know that Midland is the birthplace of petroleum and natural gas as well as the largest oil field in the U.S. The museum also has art on display. The restrooms are clean, the museum is bright and colorful, and staff are friendly. The museum is also kid friendly. Check it out!

They did a great job recreating it (at a smaller scale, of course) but it's still amazing to see up close, and you're allowed to walk through the pillars here, whereas in the UK you can't get anywhere near the actual Stonehenge pillars. We were on a road trip and when I heard about this place, I knew we had to swing by and experience it for ourselves. It was only about 15 minutes out of the car, but when you're driving across the massive emptiness of West Texas, every cool stop is worth the chance to stretch your legs. Stonehenge in Texas?…read more Actually it's a "Stonehenge Replica" of the mysterious United Kingdom sight, but it's still pretty cool. Located on the campus of the University of Texas Permian Basin, these sculptures are perfect for the setting... the bright football stadium lights in the background certainly give it a different meaning. Lol. Yeah, it's obvious it was "mechanically-cut" not to mention "stacked with cranes." But the saving grace, Paul D. (review from 1/27/2020), is not that this is a free permanent outdoor art exhibit, but that this sparked so many questions from my daughters, ages 9 & 10. We visited on Good Friday 2024. It was awesome to experience their curiosity and listen to their hypotheses on everything from the real deal far across the pond to the planning of this development. This would be even better to view at night time in my opinion, but our schedule did not allow for us to stay longer. Seniors and graduate students of the college stopped by to capture graduation photos while we were there. Ample, free parking.

The Lea County Museum in Lovington, New Mexico disappointed me…read more.. This week I tried calling them several times and there was no answer, no voicemail available. I still tried to go there in person (3.21.2025). It didn't seem open, but I still tried the door. No budge. No signs were posted. No hours displayed. Nothing on their social media indicating they would be closed - in fact, they have been actively posting photos of the day on Facebook. So I walked across the street to the public library and conferred with the folks working there. The friendly staff tried to call at their suggestion & also got no answer. Then the library staff brainstormed & said I should try a building around the corner they referred to as "The Town Hall." I gave up. I had already wasted a half hour at that point. What an absolute disappointment. Maybe I'll try again some day, but what exactly is the point in two separate buildings with no signage? Why not just answer the phone?

I feel like this is something that could've been handled better by staff if they ever were around but of course they were no where to be seen. As for concessions, the popcorn tasted stale and nasty. The seats were uncomfortable and torn and they did not recline. Also, they didn't have the AC turned on enough because it was pretty hot. In addition to all of that, the carpet looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in forever. This theater sucked!

There was nothing political about it and our tour guide (Kaylee?) was excellent and knew so many of the facts we asked her (she had also given us fantastic suggestions on where to eat and what else to do nearby). We walked through restored areas of a living room, kitchen, nursery, George W's childhood bedroom, bathroom, photos of the family, a history of Midland, a baseball room, and a recreated outside area.
