Members have free admission at the Western Heritage Museum at the New Mexico Junior College. Please, someone, encourage the NMJC to put out a remembrance bulletin board of our beloved Dr. Steve McCleery ASAP. I am disheartened that nothing was displayed anywhere on-campus on 4.6.2025 when my daughters and I visited and again when I walked my brother's dogs on 4.8.2025. Perhaps they never fixed their digital signs.

The Center for the Arts is located in a large buildup in downtown Hobbs…read more There is free street parking nearby, but I will say that the street adjacent to Broadway is not a through-street. It was made into a patio type area. When I brought my daughters to check the place out on 7/19/2023, there honestly wasn't much to look at except for a few patriotic pieces. All of the pieces on display are from local artists. Some are for sale while some are labeled NFS or "not for sale." These art shows typically entail entry fees of around $10 per artwork. Guidelines apply. The next entry deadline will be in August for their popular Fan Art Show. For details go to https://lccanm.org They do offer classes from time to time mainly for kids in art, music, and readers theater. I saw a few parents dropping the kids. They are closed Sunday & Monday. So glad we have this opportunity in our community!

Ralph Tasker Arena was named after the greatest New Mexico boy's high school basketball coach of…read moreall time. I initiated this page because that man - while not particularly tall - was a giant in our community for half a century. So when Hobbsans refer to "Tasker," you know it's the main gym at the Hobbs High School. When I was in high school, Coach Tasker was still around - coaching and teaching government (I think. I never got him). To me, he was always bigger than life. He was so fun to watch because his entire team was always so polished and eager to please Coach... and they were HUSTLERS. In fact, Coach initiated the full court press the ENTIRE game. He never let up. The boys were always so noticeably tired after the game, but they all became good men. He died in 1999 when I was a junior. After all this time, tons of money have been poured into this arena while vast improvements have been made. There were always multiple gyms, but man are they so much nicer now than when I was in high school. And I am so happy now that my youngest daughter gets to play volleyball there! She started yesterday (2.10.2026). So grateful to live in a strong community with teachers and coaches who put in work Tasker style. The Lea County Museum in Lovington, New Mexico disappointed me…read more.. This week I tried calling them several times and there was no answer, no voicemail available. I still tried to go there in person (3.21.2025). It didn't seem open, but I still tried the door. No budge. No signs were posted. No hours displayed. Nothing on their social media indicating they would be closed - in fact, they have been actively posting photos of the day on Facebook. So I walked across the street to the public library and conferred with the folks working there. The friendly staff tried to call at their suggestion & also got no answer. Then the library staff brainstormed & said I should try a building around the corner they referred to as "The Town Hall." I gave up. I had already wasted a half hour at that point. What an absolute disappointment. Maybe I'll try again some day, but what exactly is the point in two separate buildings with no signage? Why not just answer the phone?
