Western Auctions Ltd are philatelic auctioneers... and you don't see many of those around these days... especially not on the City Road, which is more famed for its kebab and fast food outlets than it is for its rare stamp collections and vintage stamp sales. Oddly, as far as I'm aware, despite Western Auctions Ltd being situated in Cardiff, they hold most of their auctions in Bristol, often using at The Jarvis International Hotel. I guess that this makes sense in many respects. Bristol is just off the M5, making it easier to get to from more locations than Cardiff. Bristol is not only more accessible, but it doesn't have the toll bridge over the river Severn, which at £5.50 a pop for a car puts a significant additional expense on any trip to Cardiff from over the boarder. It therefore has a greater appeal than Cardiff from a motorists perspective. read more
