I don't know where the traders get their stock from, but some of them must have an incredible address book! A lot of them seemingly have endless access to the most incredibly desirable objects. Their lives must be heavenly! I considered becoming a trader myself a few years back, but decided that it would be an overtly dangerous career choice. I'd be great at scouting out my stock, and have fairly well tuned haggling skills. So far, so good! But, the problems would arise when it came to selling any of it on. I know I'd want to keep everything! Those confounded attachment issues! They also hold regular auctions at the King's Road site. I've not been to one, but I hear that they are as much fun as the flea markets, and just as well stocked with eminently buyable stuff.

Avalon offers a wide selection of interesting items, from Georgian furniture to unique jewellery. They also carry a range of porcelain and glass figures, as well as books, stamps, pictures and toys. I'm a bit of a history buff, so I really enjoyed browsing the extensive ranges of military medals, which would make a nice gift for my WWII-obsessed Dad. I'm quite picky with jewellery - I hardly wear any, ever. My fingers are like sausages, so it's difficult to find rings that are both big and beautiful. I was astonished when I slipped on an amazing Art Deco silver ring to find it actually fit my massive middle finger perfectly. Priced at a reasonable £35, this ring was coming home with me. I met one-half of the husband and wife team who run this shop, and he is absolutely lovely, chatty and helpful, suggesting I leave my bags at the front so it's easier to manoeuvre around the shop. Definitely coming back here as the antiques are remarkable and the prices are reasonable!

A two-storey treasure trove of vintage items but displayed with finesse. I came looking for some champagne saucers and the lady was very helpful in showing me some (the wrong decade for me, but they were beautiful Edwardian cut glass). The prices are astonishingly reasonable verging on cheap so if you like quality items in your home and kitchen then I highly recommend coming here and finding bits and bobs.

The shop is sectioned, with each person renting a section to show there antiques off. Some things can be quite expensive, however there are soom good bargains to be had and its great fun looking through all the stuff. When you enter, it just looks like an ordinary gift shop, then as you climb the stairs, rooms start to appear before as if they are developing right before your eyes. There are several nooks and cranies which you know I enjoy exploring. It is a combination of several business all under one roof or rather in one building as there are one or two floors. Meeting the Managers was a further delight and I realsied where all the display and organisaitonal skills originated. It is a wonderful collection of crafts and antiques that just seem to blend into one another in a very coordinated yet natural way. Then of course there is the coffee shop another pleasant experience. Having enjoyed a delicious hot applecake and icecream I then returned the next day with a friend for coffee and tea. Am already telling other folk about this discovery and am surprised how several folk so far were not aware of this special store. Recently, the Emporium has expanded. Unlike many antique stores it is well arranged and fairly spacious (3 levels) and NOT dusty like so may that tend to make you sneeze with decades old dust and mold spores in the air. It is primarily upmarket (and pricey) but some very nice art and furniture pieces. Mrs G loved a painting there but just too small for our 15 foot ceilinged family room (converted Manor house) and I loved a massive dining table (too big!!!). A good mooch for an unusual present. Deserves to be supported the owners have a lot of knowledge and it is well worth a visit .It is situated on the opposite side of the road to Marks and Spencer.
