I went here twice as a child (ages 11 and 12) and suffered greatly. I was there on suicide watch both times, and rightfully so. Still, the staff was awful - I had a nurse the second time who recognized me and called me "that bad kid from last year". I tried to convince her that I wasn't a "bad kid" but she wouldn't change her mind. You don't tell a depressed, suicidal person that they're "bad", especially a child! My parents heard about this and complained but nothing was ever done. They also forced me into sports activities during which I was bullied because I'm uncoordinated due to motor deficits. If I could give negative stars, I would. EDIT: I saw a five-star review admonishing "angry mothers" for writing negative reviews when some reviews were made by patients who were mistreated here. My nephew went there voluntarily, he said he was bored in there not much activities. They gave him drugs and he made a couple of friends but that was pretty much it. He was in there 5 days and insurance refused to pay at first, later they did pay but his parents paid out of pocket over 3k for absolutely ineffective treatment, go somewhere else! read more

Was placed here for suicide watch (even though I didn't even attempt suicide). Place made me want to commit suicide. It's that bad. Ppl are loud, violent and it's scary. They wake you up ever 15 mins and it's beyond difficult to get any rest. I will say that the a handful of the techs did make it more enjoyable and they did help me get sober so I will always give them credit for that. But if you aren't really dealing with too many mental health issues, not the place for you. It was almost like jail. read more

My mother was a patient here at this facility and the staff here was phenomenal to her. I'd go visit her and she would tell me that they fed her VERY WELL. She said the food was awesome and they fed her several times throughout the day. They would have group therapy where they talked about their personal issues, and only if you felt comfortable to talk about them. She made friends with other patience and the staff and most importantly she felt like she was in a safe place and were VERY grateful for what West Oak Hospital provided for her time there. I've been seeing these bad reviews and it makes me sad. I had a wonderful experience at West Oaks. My mental health was taken care of properly and according to my needs. The staff were understanding and caring. Not once did I feel endangered when I was in the care of a particular two. What you angry mothers need to understand is this: If your child is acting out and endangering others or themselves, the staff is going to use every means possible to back them down before getting physical. Would you rather they use their hands instead of their voice? Of course not. If your child has been trained properly and has good behavior, this won't be a problem. If your child is truly mentally challenged, they will deal with him according to his needs. Never will they yell at a child for no reason. There is always a reason. For Vets it's a good healthy place to start your recovery and mental care . Also if you need a place to stay if you are homeless. Jim White is very compassionate and has been a wonderful pilar of support in coordinating my care while in unit 9 and for my after care resources to support my recovery. Mr. Marcus Bell has also been instrumental in displaying compassion, empathy and understanding as the unit 9 therapist. I have learned so much about addiction and recovery. I am so grateful for my experience here at West Oaks. I feel refreshed with a brand new outlook and attitude for my recovery and for life. read more

****I WAS NOT THE PATIENT, BUT THE PARENT OF THE PATIENT **** Oh, and former mental health tech here. I used to work in a psychiatric hospital. This place is nothing like the one I worked at. My loved one was left with others who threatened physical violence, staff couldn't find the clothes we brought (for days), and communication was almost zero. You have to beg to talk to a professional. Treatment plan? Yeah, good luck finding that out. The place looks dated, dirty and cold. West Oaks exemplifies the problems with the mental health system in America. I know it's hard finding a bed at a good facility, but you have to try and find one. I REFUSED to admit my child here when we were RACIALLY VERBALLY ATTACKED by a patient, laughed at by a nurse when I reported it and forced to wait for THREE HOURS for admissions. Then the HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATION LIED to CPS, saying they feared for my son's safety due to suicide. He was asked if he wanted to kill or harm himself but he told the nurse NO!! I don't traditionally write on-line reviews because my opinions about particular establishments are usually in line with what's already been said. But today, I feel compelled to share my positive experience as a mom who's teenager was admitted to West Oaks Hospital this month. First of all, it's never easy to send a family member to a psych facility. It's also not easy to pick a facility and be confident you are making the right decision. From what I've seen, mental health hospitals usually do NOT have the best reviews. In my research, I contacted friends and neighbors, read a plethora of online reviews, scrolled through many facilities' website and social media page, looked on Glassdoor to read the employees opinions, and called several of the hospitals to get a feel how responsive and informative they were. I narrowed my choice, and ultimately decided to go with West Oaks after exhausting myself in research and a 20 minute phone call with a member of their admitting staff. This employee was well informed of the hospital's process, answered all my questions (even my most specific ones) and ultimately gave me the reassurance to move forward. If there is any advice I could give, CALL the facility! If a staff member is available and takes the time to address ALL your concerns, it may be an indication how well the communication will continue while your child is admitted. Things I like about West Oaks: 1. My child had daily group therapy and one-on-one visits with his therapist and psychiatrist. Many of the other Houston area psych hospitals do not offer the daily one-on-ones. 2. During my child's stay, I contacted the hospital several times to check how things were going. And each time, a staff member picked up the phone always happy to discuss my child's progress. This was HUGE for me!! 3. My child could call me once a day and we could visit Monday's, Wednesday's, and Saturday's. 4. My child had access to outdoor activities twice a day and could play in the gymnasium. 5. The front office lady WAS a little rough, but the other staff members were absolutely wonderful! I am not even kidding you: every employee I talked to was kind, gentle, and truly cared for my child's well being. 6. My child was administered medication properly. 7. West Oaks is not in the best part of town, but security and safety is their top priority. During my son's stay, he had a disagreement with another patient, and a staff member quickly stepped in to resolve the problem. Then when my son was discharged, I watched as a few boys wished him well with fist pumps, and the boy that he had a disagreement with, gave him a hug. My heart nearly melted as I realized that these boys created a genuine bond of friendship. 8. Best of all, my son is doing so much better! And I'm sure we'll have plenty of challenges ahead, but we're finally moving in the right direction. I have not been paid or encouraged to write this review. My purpose is to share our experience for those searching for help with individuals dealing with critical mental health concerns. read more

My son was admitted to West Oaks July 8, 2023 *My son attempted to elope into a highway *A person from Texana crisis unit, Fort Bend's sheriff department along with the CIA arrived to assist *My son was transported to West Oakes -This is my son's fifth visit to West Oaks within a year. - Each time he is released he is heavy medicated -The discharge nurses are rude and refuses to answer any questions. There is no explanation of medications. And, if I attempted to ask, I am rudely interrupted and my are never questions would be ignored -my son last two v admissions to West Oaks, I never spoke with a doctor. -the units refused to answer calls. They allowed for the phone to roll over. I waited 45 minutes no one would answer the phone -when someone did answered they sounded irritated and I unwilling to communicate The case manger and case manger supervisor at West Oaks made several falsified CPS reports. I submitted CPS report against West Oaks. The CPS's supervisor ignored my submission. CPS workers lead me to believe that a family meeting would be conducted to discuss my concerns as it relates to my son aggressive behavior and develop a discharge safety plan for my son.. The day of the meeting there was 7 CPS workers on the Zoom meeting. Four CPS workers was invited into the meeting without my knowledge. I had to ask why there was so many CPS workers. It was shared that four of the workers were in training. I felt over whelmed and out numbered. Neither here or there, I was forced to remove my son from West Oaks without a safety plan on July 21, 2023 The CEO and the discharge nurse was rude, and unprofessional. The CEO made a false accusation that I was being aggressive towards her. Then the CEO positioned herself in front of me pointing at me abusing her authority . I was told paperwork was faxed to several RTC. I learned that there was no paperwork faxed. The discharge fir out patient services for my son was denied which is apart of West Oaks. When I attempted to inform the case managers, I was ignored. The day of my son's visit the nurse at the out patient rehabilitation for West Oaks Rehabilitation made a comment she was told not to admit. Robert was released without his clothes. There was a pair of pants in his bag with boo boo stains. - when I told them he did not receive his clothes, the nurses said he did. I had to go to to West Oaks to fill out a form for them to review the Camaro the day I brought my son's clothes. I received a call to come get his clothes they were not his clothes . My son son wear adult male clothes these cloth belonged to a child 8 or 7 After reading other posts. please do not fall for the their suggestion email your complaint to the email address provided. .It is time to report these matters to the correct agencies that can correct these issues. They mistreat the patience that are there for treatment. By allowing staff to belittle them and treat them like prisoners. There is no security there except the staff, which does nothing to protect people. They allow belongs to be stolen from individuals and all they do is announce that they are doing a room search, which give the person time to hide it. Patience are allowed to threaten other patience and staff with bodily harm and nothing is done about it. It just another form of jail, but you have no rights. read more

I'd give this place less than 1 star if possible. I was left in intake for about 3 hours, alone in a room with men-- I was the only female. The nurses were rude and could not have cared less about the patients. Most seemed to be there for the paycheck and benefits. "Therapy" was a complete joke. Shaking maracas is not therapy. Its dirty -- I had a stain above my bed that was either poop or blood. Food was gross. Dr. Elhage is yet another employee who is dismissive and doesn't care about the patient. Pretty sure this was the only place that would hire him. He wanted to keep me there because I have good insurance, so more $ for the hospital. Revoking his medical license would be a good idea. Fortunately, my mom got me out of that hell hole. AVOID this place!! read more

Do not take your child to this Hospital. Recently our 9 year old son was referred to this so-called Hospital for an evaluation. He was referred in the middle of the night by Texas Children's Hospital ER. Upon arrival to the so-called Hospital the ambulance crew had to wait 15 minutes before they were allowed in. We were sent to a waiting area that had no furniture only plastic blocks to sit on and it was cold and damp in that room. The staff would not provide any blankets. Also the room was locked with no accessibility to any restrooms. After a 3-hour wait I asked if my son could use a bathroom and 10 minutes later he was allowed to. I also inquired from the staff how much longer before my son's room would be ready because we were told at Texas Children's Hospital the room was already ready for him. We were then told it would be an additional 3 to 4 hours. At this point I inform the staff that was totally unacceptable and that our family would be leaving at that moment. At that point the staff threatened us and stated if you leave now AMA we will report you to the authorities and to CPS for child neglect. At this point my wife and I who are both healthcare professionals stated, get us the form, we will sign it, and we are leaving now! The staff reluctantly complied and on our way out we had to ask them to return our keys and and phones that they took from us upon entry. It also should be noted that upon leaving the reception area there is no state, county, or federal health certificates posted anywhere. Also the doorways and hallways are all manually locked which is in full violation of all fire codes. Currently we are consulting with our attorney on what legal recourse we will be taking and also have filed complaints with state and county certifying boards to include the Texas Medical Board. Also as today CPS has begun an investigation of possible medical neglect against us. Ironically the CPS case worker was at my son's school when I picked my son up for a medical appointment. Again, do not take your child to this facility read the reviews also read the state inspection reports and the state health audits performed on this facility. This is all public information that's easily accessible through the internet. Again, we were totally appalled of the condition of this so called hospital and of its staff. read more

My mom was recently admitted to west oaks for almost a week, the front desk was pretty helpful answered all my questions about what was allowed in. The nurses were okay some were nice some seemed irritated when asked a question but I also only got to interact with 5 nurses in total. The unit my mom was being kept in felt bland and depressing but it is a mental health hospital so you can't really expect a luxury stay. Just wish it was a more cheerful atmosphere. Visiting my mom she never had any complaints, she said the food was fine and everyone was nice to her which was a plus. She said they also had groups I don't know if it's the same for children/teens but they kept a copy of their schedule on a whiteboard and from what I saw they were pretty occupied throughout the day. My only regret is not talking to her doctor or therapists. I'm only 22 so I didn't know what to do to help my mom, I thought that maybe getting to meet her doctor would shed some light on what I'm supposed to do, just wish they would've reached out and had family sessions with the doctor/therapist. I didn't find out I could talk to her doctor until the day before she was discharged. I did feel like they were quick to let her go though. Would recommend scheduling a time to meet with them as soon as they're admitted. I've seen the reviews for this place and I was very skeptical but most reviews were from patients and some just seemed extreme. If half the things these people were saying happened I'm almost 100% sure they'd have tons of lawsuits on them. The reviews about the food are irrational what else do you expect from a mental health facility? I'm sure their purpose is to make sure you're mentally stable not spoiled. Reviews about patients being abused? They have cameras everywhere if your child or loved one was hit or abused in any way it would be on camera. I do not know if there are cameras in the rooms but I'm sure there are. Lost items? I don't know if they did this a couple months ago but they make you write down everything you bring them and they keep record of it. They keep a slip and you keep a slip and it's all signed off by you and the front desk employee. Overall they did an okay job of making sure my mom was good to go home. If they would've consulted with me and informed me on what I'm supposed to do to help her I'm sure my mom wouldn't be going back to another mental health facility 4 days after being discharged. By no means a bad place to send your loved one to just can't stress enough that if you could get a family session do it within a day or two of them being there. The doctor will tell you their progress and what their possible discharge day would be. read more

this mental hospital drugged me with Trasodome and they fired the nurse to hide evidence. they refused to give the IV test they took the same day I told mom that they were drugging me with trasodome for 2 days and the same day she took me out og there and called the police. they refused to give any information that was required, and i know for a fact hiding someone's med information especially with a malicious law like drugging a child illegally just to shut them up, is very illegal. these nurses were also abusive physically and mentally. I cried bec I had a mental breakdown because they were allowing girls to get really physically aggressive and fighting a lot. all they did was laugh at me and threatened to shut my mouth. I couldn't even sleep then, and they didn't care that other kids were also crying because of the multiple incidents that had happened in that facility. turned out I wasn't the only child they were drugging, abusing, and lying to. there was another mom while I was being taken out yelling at the people because they drugged that mother's 13 year-old child. They have gotten away with so much that it's sickening. worse part is I was in that hospital for 5 days from January 6th to 11th. I still have not recovered from their abuse. I would want this place to be shut down for having abusive nurses, doctors, and therapists, getting away with malicious crimes, drugging children to shut them up, and allowing children to nearly die from exposed to aggressive behavior. read more

I went to the child's area for 4 days, all we did was watch tv and occasionally got to do art therapy. The food was awful and made me go into a minor ED, the nurses don't care for you and if you have issues with loud noises and get into an oversensitive state by them you will not be cared for. The age groups were wonky (I was the oldest by 11 and the youngest was 6 in my unit.) and the patients were more caring then the staff. I got multiple underwear stolen and had my shoes stolen before getting them returned, I felt dehumanized and it made my thought process go to absolute shit, the medication was awful and did nothing. Don't bring family members here, nurses will think they are stupid for having ilnesses or disorders. If you are neurodivergent or have DID or such, please look for a different psych ward, you won't be safe here. It's also worse for lgbtq+ people too. read more

I Drove My Mother To this hospital to check on one of her foster kids the minute we walked in there the morning receptionist Kathy in the picture below had a messed up attitude, and telling me I needed to stay inside the waiting area while my mom went to the admissions side and I went to walk out and walk my mom and the foster kid to that door then I was going to sit in my car, this lady gonna scream telling me I needed to stay inside I said lady I don't have to stay in here. She even walked outside yelling I couldn't go in there and I kept repeating myself LADY I UNDERSTAND YOU AND HEARD YOU, you didn't need to come outside. So I wait in my car then my mom text me she was in the waiting area so I went in there another worker comes out put bracelets on foster kid then tells Kathy her daughter gonna hold her purse and phone she's going to tell another worker oh that smart ass mouth girl. Then the other worker takes my mom and the foster kid back before she did so I told my mom ima wait in my car because this lady over here calling me names besides my name and I'll check her so then I try to walk out the door and she's gonna lock me in lmao I tell her ma'am open this door she's gonna tell me she's not the one she put her hands on me then I was like please do ma'am I'll have your job, she's gonna tell me she's gonna call security to take me out I laughed and told her I WAS TRYING TO WALK OUT. Remind you she still got the door lock she's gonna walk back and grab the same worker that took my mother back then while she's going to her desk she's gonna call me a smart ass mouth bitch so I started recording her then her whole attitude changed! Horrible front desk staff! Only reason I give 2 stars is because the front waiting lobby is really clean. I get that this is a mental health hospital that does NOT mean you get to disrespect people. So tired of the stigma on people with mental health issues. My mother is schizophrenic and is here to change her meds because they are not working. I care for her and we basically have no family to help, I am also a single mother so my daughter comes everywhere with me. Well the front desk took it upon her self to advise me that I should have found a sitter for my daughter. My son was being treated there and tried to call in, a nurse called and asked for my wife, my wife is a hospice social worker and was dealing with a dying patients family so she could not talk. I told the nurse I would be glad to speak with Tyler, she responded I am not on the list ( I was one who checked him in so no idea why not on the list). I told her my wife was not available at the moment, she responded well if he isn't important to her...I told her that was not acceptable so she hung up on me. I have spent over an hour trying to get back to the nurses station, the security that answers will not tell me the nurses name, the supervisors name and just sends the call through but they wont answer. read more

If there was a negative star I would choose it...... Our 11 year old daughter was there for 4 days for anxiety and depression. We found out too late before discharge Against Medical Advise (AMA) that the following happened. The children was denied food as a punishment which is against the law and is considered physical abuse. If the children ask for additional snacks, the staff told them that they didn't get their next snack just for asking for more. The children that acted out were heavily sedated so the staff didn't have to deal with them which is against the law (improper use of medication restrains). One mother observed a young boy that was acting out being grabbed around the neck and dragged into his room by one of the male staff members. We personally observed a young girl beating her head against the wall as the staff watched. The staff lied to us about the amount of food our child was eating, she was constantly hungry. They said she was eating all her fish and vegetables, which I know she does not eat. The doctor would not return our calls for the entire 4 days our daughter was there. The staff thought the children's issues were a joke and would often laugh at them. We were over charged on our insurance deductible and never told the fees or provided a copy of our daughter's care plan, all of which are required by law under the patient's rights act. We regret ever taking our child there, but we did not know what else to do and thought we were doing the right thing. read more

Avoid this place. Rude staff, completely disorganized. From check in to check out they are ambivalent and never considerate of your time or needs. It feels like they hire people at the lowest possible pay and Dr.s from Nigeria. My child could not understand the Dr , as his English was so heavily accented, how could this be affective treatment? The patient can't communicate with the Dr. I am shocked at how this place is ran. Each visiting day visiting hours were ran differently and you never got the full time as the staff could care less if you got your time with your child. They threatened us when we requested to have our child removed, it felt like a private jail not a mental health facility. I would give this place less than one star if it were possible. This place traumatized me and I am still dealing with the pain. This is quite a long review detailing some of the horrors I experienced, but if you are considering this place, I highly recommend you read the whole review. Do not go here. We were going to file a lawsuit but we didn't go through with it- I wish we had. This place needs to be destroyed so it can't hurt any more vulnerable people. If I could leave zero stars for this place, I would. I was hospitalized twice in this institution, both times were absolutely horrific and disgusting. The first time I was about 10 years old because I had suicidal ideation and my mom didn't know what to do, so she took me here. It was freezing, empty, and ugly. Not that big of a deal, but as a mentally ill child, it wasn't fun. After waiting about an hour, I was able to talk to someone (my mom and I were the only people there for 45 of those minutes) they admitted me, and since I was "dangerous", all of my clothes were taken and I was required to strip to my underwear to prove I was not bringing any contraband. CONTRABAND? AS A TEN YEAR OLD? I can understand their want to keep their facility safe to all patients, but I was very uncomfortable and was not allowed to refuse since they decided I was too dangerous to turn away. If I refused they would've called CPS. Anyway, I was upset when I got into the ward- I had just been strip searched, all my belongings taken away, and was entering a room of teens and brutal nurses wearing nothing but paper underwear and a gown. The stay was horrific. If you've ever read "Ten Days in a Mad House" or have heard about the horrors of psych wards, it was almost exactly the same. I was offered little to no useful information- the closest thing I got to help was getting on medication. The nurses stole, yelled, and were frightening people to be working at an institution for mentally ill children. My roommate had a paper bag with pads her mom had dropped off for here (pads were not offered to my knowledge) and the nurse confiscated the bag because we were on the suicidal list. She was obviously frustrated and vented to me, only for the nurse to be listening outside the door and confront us to not talk about the nurses while we were there. We were not given any privacy, and every time we had to use the restroom we had to alert a nurse so they could sit outside and listen and look before we flushed. As someone who was "poop-shy" as a child, I immediately became disliked by the nurses who just wanted to go back to their computer work... so I just didn't poop while I was there. It was a horrific experience that taught me nothing except to not trust other people with my thoughts and feelings. The second hospitalization was surprisingly even worse than the first. (DISCLOSURE: this "psychiatrist" had no affiliation with the hospital that I know of, but she is still important to this part.) I had been given a temporary prescription by the hospital and needed to see a psychiatrist to get a refill. Apparently the one I saw was also horrible and wasn't even certified, and as soon as she heard I had been hospitalized for suicidal thoughts, she excused herself and called the cops on me. I begged her not to send me to the hospital, and if she had to, to not send me here. But she insisted and I was escorted here again. Once I was there, I was bawling my eyes out, and the workers were confused to see a police car outside. Long story short, the person who did the evaluations threatened to involve CPS if my mom didn't allow me to be hospitalized, because, in her words as I remember, "I don't care what [op's mother] has to say, if the cops had to escort you here, there's obviously an issue." I can understand why she would think that, but she simply would not listen and pretty much kidnapped me because I told an unlicensed person about my history of mental health. The minimum stay is 3 days, and I had a flight to go to in two days. My mother was sent home and was not allowed to see me after my search. The psychiatrist they hired for my ward didn't show up to work for unspecified reasons, so I was required to stay overnight and for half a day until he confirmed I didn't need to be there. It was a traumatic experience that nobody should have to experience. Do not go here. read more

TL;DR - This place is terrible. If you actually want help for yourself or for your loved one/friend, try to go somewhere else. I was a voluntary patient here. I originally wanted to go to Methodist, but was told there weren't any beds available. I arrived around 7am and the entire intake process took 7-8 hours., I'm not sure why. When I arrived on the unit they placed me on, I sat around waiting for any instructions.. I wasn't assigned a room, not given any toiletries, no idea about anything. When I went to ask the staff (nurses) wearing green who were sitting behind the desk, I was told to sit back down in the same way that you might sternly tell a 4 year old who is in some sort of time out. After almost an hour, an intern leading a meeting told me to come and join the group. In my week stay, I learned that the schedule that is up on the wall is a joke. "Arts and crafts" doesn't exist, "journaling" doesn't exist, and when you ask about these things, someone will point to the tables with the old ass crayons and tell you to color. Some staff try to maintain the legitimacy of the schedule by holding group meetings...other staff members say screw it. I didn't see a doctor for 36 hours, I wasn't allowed to have lip balm until my doctor approved it, one of the nurses asked me to sign a treatment plan that was blank, majority of the staff has this air of superiority that is very degrading. I happened to see notes in my file one day since they were left out in the open. Aside from that being a problem, there were notes in there that were completely false. When I brought this up, I was told I was wrong, and there was nothing I could do about it. It was not a simple, inconsequential falsehood that was in there. My doctor ordered a few things for me that I didn't even get due to poor communication. I found that one day I was unable to receive my medication because someone had erroneously signed that I already took it (before you think it was some sort of drug to get high from...it was my iron supplement). It was hard for me to see a patient with obvious physical special needs go without bathing for 5 days because she didn't have an accessible space to do so or a staff member who noticed it. Or even her doctor! It is likely 6 days now, as I only left recently. There was another woman who used a cane to walk...for no reason whatsoever it was confiscated, leaving her susceptible to falls and other injuries. Another patient had his glasses taken away! Seriously, I can't make this up. If you are high-functioning and utilize coping skills, you will be frustrated and severely unhappy with the inefficiency, disorganization, and humiliation. It's worse on the weekends. You might leave in worse condition than what you came in as. There are a few individuals who do what their jobs are and do it well (Charles, Dane, and the night tech whose name I never knew), but they are few and far between. I was a patient at West Oaks Hospital and the staff or good to me. The one thing I liked about Westoaks is that you can smoke or smoke breaks and the food is very good you can bring money for snacks for the vendor machine and beforeWe could finish with our meals the doctors that work there and you out your cigarettes before you can go outside each person can get some cigarettes a piece out their own Pack.I like the group sessions because it let you express yourself while you're there and you can get the rest you need while you're there and they will talk with you and help you to understand how the program works. read more

My daughter is 14 and I didn't know what to do with her violent episodes. This place scared me at first with the security, but she was safe from harm, it gave us the chance for her to get away from home and get attention for a week. Its a scary feeling but if you have a teen and need assistance with behavior that's out of control and your not sure why, then please seek out help. they always answered the phone. The doctor called me as soon as i asked to speak with her, they administered medication and were attentive. I wouldn't have left her if she was younger, the facility is intimidating but it truly was a blessing for our family. The whole process we were given direction and everyone was very kind to my daughter, the food was good. I wouldn't go this route again because of how stringent they are but for what was happening in our case with self-harm and odd behavior, I would definitely recommend this facility. read more

Read everything in the reviews before bringing a patient Or considering checking in for treatment yourself. If you bring clothing, take pictures of each article and count each type of item, make your own list. Mark the clothing in some unique way on the inside. At discharge we were missing 1 new sweater, 3 new bottoms, 3 pair of black socks, 4 black shirts, and 3 pair of underwear. I was told that what happened is someone on staff mixed the clothing together from various patients in the wash (a routine occurrence that is not supposed to happen). We lost about $100 worth of brand new clothing which my son was not compensated for at discharge. Document everything. Keep good records and verbatim accounts of what is said and actions taken. A LOT of my son's clothing was stolen during his visit - 14 of 26 articles of clothing vanished due to the incompetence of staff who just did not care! They could not find it when it was time for him to be discharged and it is now gone forever with no hope of recovery. My 9 year old was there for ten days. He started on Unit 4 and was transferred to Unit 8. He liked Unit 4 but after Unit 8 was horrible & I believe him. He complained of bullying against him by many other children. The power went out for an extended period of time during my son's stay. I know they have a lot on their plate with helping patients. There were some very difficult patients during my brief visit. Dr. Mary Lou was very kind and watched my youngest one while I went to Unit 8 to pick up my son. Staff at the front desk is polite and helpful. If you have other children, they are not permitted below a certain age to enter the residency area of the facility - 16 is the minimum age for visitors I believe. The bathrooms at the facility really need to be cleaned more regularly or cleaned period for that matter. There were waste bags in the bathroom and someone had placed toilet paper with feces in one or more of the paper bags. On more than one occasion we have used the facility bathrooms and they were very dirty. The facility also has a stale, musty smell. Also, you cannot bring any devices or other objects past the metal detector at the front door. Make sure you empty your pockets and leave any metal or other objects in the car. It is exceptionally cold in the Admissions area as well so I would recommend anyone being checked in or accompanying someone being checked in wear sweat pants, a sweat shirt, and thick, warm socks or two pair of regular socks. In addition to the sweater I recommend wearing a thermal shirt underneath or at the very least a long sleeve shirt. On check in I was in the admissions room waiting with my son and it felt like it was about 50 degrees in there. They did offer me a blanket but I declined because I did not think I would be there very long. We were in there for about an hour. On the upside at least it was not hot inside the room we were in. The residency area where patients stay was much more temperate and comfortable. They did call me with requests when they needed to administer medications. I was also able to visit with my son in the phone. The staff at the facility have a lot of responsibility but took time out to make it possible for my son and I to visit on the phone and talk about his progress and expectations for when he is discharged. I am grateful for that. His brother and I missed him during his time away. If you are coming to do discharge, it may be difficult to get through to the facility on the phone around shift changes 4 p.m., 12 p.m., 8 a.m. I believe to be the times of the shift changes. I let the phone ring for about ten minutes but no one picked up. Every prior time I called I was able to reach an . He was admitted to help him to be evaluated by facility staff inpatient and get the medications he needed. There were some issues he was having that his existing medications did not address adequately. If you can go somewhere else to get your mental health needs met I would recommend doing so.
