Very simple, very elegant, very uplifting.
You'll see a statue of a World War One "doughboy" standing tall, holding his helmet high over his head with an outstretched right arm. He holds his rifle in his left hand.
The statue rests on a stone base that has plaques on its sides with an honor roll of names and remembrances from World War II, and the Korean and Viet Nam wars
The central World War One plaque has a sculpted panel with four soldiers greeting four civilians.
The main inscription reads:
Dedicated To The
Memory Of Those Who
Gave Their Lives In The
World War 1917 - 1918
The American's Creed
"I believe in the United States of America as a government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states; a perfect union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American Patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes."
"I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it; to support its constitution; to obey its laws; to respect its flag, and to defend it against all enemies."
Its located in the very pretty West Haven Green, a nice little oasis of a park in downtown West Haven. read more
