Coral Way Campus Review. My son had been in the MDCPS system…read moresince he was 3yrs old. He was diagnosed with speech delay and later Autism, though he was high on the spectrum. During his elementary school years, he moved schools a total of 4 times in order to have him in the best suited programs. But towards 3rd 4th and 5th grade we started to notice that none of these programs were providing him with the right combination of services and academic curriculum to really challenge him. He always excelled in math and sciences, but his full potential was never really exercised because many of the classes were below his level. Our case was one where we needed a smaller class environment with stronger academic standards as well as the resources to properly deal with the missing pieces of his overall comprehension. Time and again we lucked out and had GREAT teachers but their resources were so limited. This meant highering and attending sessions with private tutors, therapists, OT, etc, sometimes 6 days a week to fill in where the schools were failing us. When looking for a middle school program, I attended the orientation for Highpoint academy and found myself in tears. I cried because hearing Dr. Gigi speaking about the school's mission and philosophy, I realised that what I had been looking for and told did not exist, DID EXIST and was right under our noses. I cannot tell you how much highpoint and their staff has meant to us and to the development of our son's education. He had a rocky start, I will not lie. But this was because for the very first time he was being CHALLENGED. He was receiving the kind of education that fostered real academic growth in a manner he was able to understand while providing him the therapy he needed. For the first time in his LIFE he was able to come home from school, do his h.w. and then play or read or just chill. He was able to just be a kid without having to run from office to office for tutoring and therapy. I cannot express what a GIFT this was. He's been there for 2 years now and I have been so pleased with all the teachers, staff, and programs offered. They always make the families feel a part of rhe journey, including us in holiday and academic celebrations. I don't know where we'd be without this school or what kind of future my son would have had if he'd never come here. All I know is that I now feel as though my son has a REAL chance to a more typical and successful life that will include college and a career... but most importantly happiness and fulfillment. Thank you all at Highpoint for being the answer to this mom's prayers.

Wow. I just made my first, and last, phone call to Highpoint Academy on Coral Way in Miami. I was…read moregreeted by a snooty sounding female who answered by saying "Highpoint" then silence. I asked to speak to someone who could tell me about the school and see if it were a good fit for my son. "What grade" then more silence, when I said 7th grade, I was rudely advised "there is no spot this year". I asked if there was a Director that I could speak with to simply learn more about the school, and she informed me she was the Director and when asked, she said her name was Angie. She was such a rude person who behaved like a scorned high school girl, I even stated that it seemed I called at the wrong time and maybe she was busy. I could not believe any organization would allow that type of treatment to potential families. If that were my employee, she would have been fired a long time ago! How are you still in business?

There's so many pluses to charter schools in general, but none like Bridgeprep Academy South. For one, I'd been surrounded by the same people for so long that it felt like family, even with the people I wasn't so close to just because of the familiarity and comfort I felt at this school. Growing up around most of the same people for a pretty big portion of my life (so far of course) had it's negatives, but for the most part is something that I will always think of as a huge blessing and will always be grateful for. It makes the school feel like home. Even now when I visit it just feels right being there. Another thing is they make sure to prioritize student interests as much as possible, which really helps to make it a welcome space for anyone. And for more advanced students like myself, they offer high school courses for both science and math to help get you ahead, which helps in the long run to get into a good high school. Not only the students make it comfortable, but also the staff. Everyone apart of the staff is so involved and you can really tell they care about the kids attending, from the admin to janitors. Teacher-student relationships are much closer than in other schools, which again, is a plus because it makes it easier for one-on-one discussions about grades and progress, and encourages more engagement in the classroom. There's also a good array of options for extracurricular activities to choose from that the school offers, and they also have the before and after school care program to help work with more hectic work schedules for the parents. Another thing they prioritize is teacher-parent relationships, so you know how your child is doing, what progress they're making, if they're having behavioral issues, etc. Overall, this school is one that I'd never talk down on and if I had the chance to go back I 100% would. This school helped shape me into the person I am today, and I'm very proud to be able to say so. If you have the chance to be apart of this school community, I would not hesitate to do so! You won't regret choosing Bridgeprep.

Four years later I chose it again for my second child, who is now about to complete his preschool stage. Not to say that I didn't like any of the other schools I visited. We are lucky in Miami to have so many great choices for preschool. But this little gem spoke to my heart. It truly is a place where families experience learning together. As a cooperative preschool, parents work along side the teacher, who by the way has been there for about 20 years and is truly dedicated to her mission. The children learn, and learn to love learning, by doing a lot of what they do best: play...inside and outdoors. They also have daily structured art, math, science, reading, pre writing, and writing activities. Because of the class size, the teacher is able to assist each child at their own level, and there are about two field trips each month!!!, so as a group you also get to know Miami and what it has to offer the community quite well! You get to truly meet the parents of the other children, since it's not just a drop off place, and your family finances don't suffer, because it costs a fraction of what all other schools in Miami cost (plus VPK4 year is completely free!). My second child graduates in less than a month, but my entire family will carry this little place forever close to our hearts. We all are better people because of the five years spent at this little treasure we found.

Mrs. Right, Mrs. Reyes, and Mrs. Lemus were the only teachers that cared. And guess what? Theyre no longer there. Coach Javi yelled at 2nd and 3rd graders and insulted them, the french teacher made fun of those who didnt understand, and spanish teacher never taught. Switching schools helped me so much. I grew closer with God, I made better friends, and the teachers care. STAY AWAY from this school fell off and screwed up. Mrs. Dagmar, Reyes, Right, Lemus, the old librarian, and Ms. Miranda were always kind. what a shame theyre gone. Dagmar is the only good one left.

THIS REVIEW TOOK ME MONTHS TO THINK ABOUT WHAT I SHOULD WRITE AND HOW I WANTED TO ADDRESS IT…read more Ok i really want to keep this short and simple but you know what? I have decided not to. I've been at this school since 2012 and graduated last year. I now go to John A. Ferguson Senior High and I'm currently a sophomore there. It's safe to say I have more freedom now that I've transferred from a small, private school to a big, public school. But, what i mainly want to discuss in my review are the things that I experienced at my time there. With that, here are a few that I went through 1- Bullying Since my 7th grade year, I experienced pretty much a bunch more mental health problems than any other grade. During that year, I found who I really was sexuality wise. I came out as a lesbian in 2021 to a girl that I really liked, who I won't be disclosing on here due to privacy reasons. We then started dating March of 2021 until April 2021, almost a full month. Since then, I felt left out on anything. Nobody really cared about me and that just made me feel like I was a nobody to them. 2- Homophobia As I recently stated, I came out as a lesbian in 7th grade. My best friend, who I had a crush on at the time was the first to know. A month or two later, we started dating. Note, this was a few days before our Spring break. A day or two after we started dating, it was our ring ceremony. Since i didn't buy a ring, I was invited to celebrate with some friends and my girlfriend at that time. We did have a lot of fun, hell they even surprised me for my birthday since my birthday was around a week later. During spring break though, some people started to find out about us being together; I didn't think to much of it but once we came back from spring break, more people started finding out and I was scared that administration was going to find out. Fast forward April 19th, We were both called to the principal's office one-by-one and we had to answer some questions that I don't want to add on here. Since that day, I was scared about what would happen next. The next day before language arts, she came up to me saying that we had to break up because of her mom finding out. Fast forward to now, we don't keep in contact anymore all because of the fucking administration and the people that I went to school with. To wrap this up, I still think about these things that Gladeview put me through to this day. From bullying to homophobia, I'm extremely upset about the way they handle these types of situations. All I'm gonna say is, DO NOT enroll you child here by any means necessary. If you don't feel like listening to that last sentence, be ready for a bunch of sadness or anger from your child. I'm still suffering from some trauma that the school forced on me (Christianity, homophobia, bullying, etc.). In conclusion, I DO NOT recommend enrolling your child at this school at all costs from personal experience. *To anyone that reads this, don't take what i said personally, this is from personal experience and I just feel that it's necessary to give my own opinion. Everyone has their own opinions and I don't say anything about them and I respect that.*
