We decided to try this Y while in the area, and were pleasantly surprised. There are several machines and free weight options, which is always nice. There are also two open gyms, one for youth and another one for the general population- that was a cool thing to see. I also appreciated the lockers scattered throughout the gym, and the layout. This isn't our home Y, but I can see us frequenting this location when we want a change of pace. The staff wasn't as welcoming as the staff from our home Y, but they were still incredibly nice. I felt like I had more space to get in the zone, which was great! read more

I am a new resident of Savannah and was so excited to find this YMCA so close to my new home. Based on 13 previous relocations, this is one of the better YMCA locations that I have been a member of in a while. Specifically, they have a 24 seven model which I don't think I have seen at any other YMCA that I have been a member of. It allows members to enter and exit the workout facilities with a digital code. This location also has steam rooms and sauna in the men's locker room, which is truly a blessing. Overall, this is a very sufficient club with a lot of variety in terms of workout machines and weights. They have an extensive aerobic room with plenty of exercise balls mats and stretch bands. They have an indoor basketball gym, but no indoor pool. And the price is definitely a value! read more

Despite recently undergoing a multi million dollar remodel, this gym is kinda run down and crowded. I have visited during many times throughout the day in an attempt to get a workout in during my flexible work day and the "crowded times" seem to be a moving target. I get it- the retirees in pooler have nothing better to do than to camp out on the treadmills / EGYM during the middle of the day, but this location always has AT LEAST two to three of the incline treadmills " down for maintenance " for MONTHS and it's really frustrating to not be able to get my workout in because someone else is using the treadmill for an hour while scrolling Facebook marketplace 1.0 pace. I get it- everyone is entitled to a workout- no matter their ability / speed etc and it wouldn't be an issue if the management here actually prioritized preventative maintenance and repairs. ( Three machines down at once when you only have 7 is ridiculous.) Overall, the staff are nice enough, but I have repeatedly tried to make suggestions on how to improve the facility and I'm always blown off . And I'm not talking about unnecessary things like " hand cream in the bathroom would be nice" (although it would be, along with paper towels, toilet protectors and a table to put your water bottle so you don't have to take it into the stall.) I mean, I got splinters multiple times from the " new" barre in the aerobics room and no one has sanded it down. When I've asked about alternatives to get my workout in , I was told to " join planet fitness." It's not the worst but it's absolutely not the best gym. read more

I have been coming here 3-6x/week for about a month now. It's excellent. All the staff and even all the members have been super nice, kind and cool. POOL: I have been swimming almost every day in this heat! And that's been LOVELY! 25 yard pool. Almost always a lane or more free. Never too packed or busy. I don't have kids but I cannot say enough about the terrific kids' instructors and amazing life guards. I admire how wonderfully patient and creative and clever they are with all the children. (I even eavesdrop while catching my breath between laps to pick up some technique tips! ;-) ) GYM: Honestly? Spotless. Every machine and all the free weights you could possibly want or need. No competing TV noise or music - just a line of TVs on different channels you can choose which to plug your headphones into. Wet wipes at-the-ready if you forgot your sweat towel (or anyone else did!). Everyone is very respectful of their nice equipment. CLASSES: I've been doing my best to work my way through their packed calendar, trying one of each class and teacher on the schedule. I haven't come close to hitting them all (they have so many! ;-) ) but not a dud in the bunch! ;-) SO FAR ;-) I have really enjoyed: * Astrid Wing's Spinning Class * Prasanna Bhonge's Yoga class * Lori Mazella's Aquatics class * Noriko Tyler HIIT Tabata class * Ruth Mannich's Tai Chi class Excited to try: * Kickboxing * Zumba * Some of the Dance classes! ;-) FREE LOCKERS (plug in code at any available). Swim lessons are starting off well! Thank you to pleasant Amelia. I was handed a list of what my toddler would be going over in class. That's awesome. I try not to be a distraction, but I also try to see and hear what's going on so I can practice later on. My daughter loves the swim class and he teacher. She even says she wants to be a swim teacher. That tells me she is comfortable in the pool and around her class. I even saw the lifeguards practice a drill and then her teacher explained what was going on and the importance of swim safety. We need that for our youth to hear! The lifeguards are active - always on the lookout and warning kids not to run (or jump near the swim class). Their slide is small, but mighty, as in it's actually operable. Unlike other YMCAs in the Coastal Georgia area. They also have a wonderful outdoor play yard, perfect for babies and older kids. It's also a good size so you're never cramped. We like it here for the swimming season! read more

I mostly go here to use the gym as well as attend classes sometimes. Gym: The facility is well equipped and is kept clean. I have never had a problem finding an equipment I need or wait more than 10-15mins for a machine, that is when the place is really busy. Classes: They offer a lot of classes from Cardio to Art of Strength to Yoga. The schedule changes monthly so you need to look up on the website for updated schedule. I have only attended classes with Stacie and they are a great workouts, definitely recommend them. My favorite thing: they always have cucumber, lemons and other vegetables/fruits infused water in the gym. Women's Room: This room offers a lot of lockers, a sauna room, restrooms and shower areas. They also have dryer in case you need to dry your hair after the shower :) Staff: Most of the staff is friendly, always greeting you at the front desk and making sure the water cooler is full and there are plenty of towels available. Great place to work out at a great price. Gulfstream employees only pay $2/week! read more

Friendly staff, lots of equipment, though tight on space especially during peak hours. The best times to go here we have found are during the afternoon on weekdays (11-3pm-ish) or during the early afternoon on weekends. Evenings after about 5pm get very busy with clubs coming in, classes, and regular gym users. There are lots of free weights and weight machines. If you are creative and someone is using what you need, you are likely to find another machine that does the same thing. There is not a lot of space (between cardio or weight machines, or for stretching/lifting free weights), so finding a good time to go is key. Staff is always super friendly. We haven't tried a class or other program yet. There is currently an evening cycling class that always blasts good music so you might see me trying that! ;) read more

I love the Y! I always rave about it to people unasked. I've had gym memberships with more expensive places but the variety of offerings at the Y keep me coming back. Plus, nothing beats the $10 per month rate! This low price includes different types of classes (ranging from spin to gentle yoga), weights, basketball, an outdoor pool, cardio machines, and more. My favorite aspect of my membership are the classes. They have so many different types of classes and pretty decent class schedules. While I do wish they had more classes in the mid-afternoon (the bulk of their class offers are either before noon or after 4 PM), I can always find something that interests and challenges me. I enjoy having the option of mixing up my workout routine and they change the classes on a monthly basis to keep things fresh. The gym can get crowded in the evenings on weekdays but I've never had to wait for a machine or anything like that. They also have good hours--they aren't open 24/7 but I'm not a late-night type person so I never have issues with this. read more

I love the Y. I love the staff at this location. I wish the city would put more money into this location, allowing for much better children programs and a more advanced facility. I like the size of the gym and the options they offer. The Zumba class is by far the best I have experienced! Amazing :) the staff is ok, not over friendly. I have not been greeted every time I walked in. The equipment is mostly good, some are old and should be replaced at some point. Also the pool area is great, I liked their patio to dry off afterwards. The showers and toilets are not always clean and I also walked out before, and took a shower once st home! They should pay more attention to that for sure read more

This is a typical Y - crowded, limited hours, lots of little kids, antiquated equipment and not very clean. The staff acts like they are doing you a favor just to say "hello." This Y is had it's day care license suspended for neglecting kids and leaving them wander in the parking lot. If you work for a large company it is cheap - - but you get what you pay for. read more

Good YMCA. Excellent variety of sporting early child hood services offered. Excellent gym, weight room, spin class, tread mills. Out door pool area is nice and the small kids splash area is nice as well. Very busy YMCA. Reasonable prices. This Y scribbles on the bathroom mirrors versus from the bible which the first time I thought was graffiti and was appalled. They have a cheesy entrance turn-style with a biometric hand print reader which really doesn't work. My not giving it 5 stars is it's lack of soccer, football fields. This YMCA coops it's field use from a local church which has available land, but is short on bathroom facilities at the location. Somewhat lumpy unkempt fields with fire ants and weeds. Plus the parking is in the field as well which is OK until it rains. read more

Don't waste your time... This is a run down gym with staff that obviously needs better leadership. ZERO communication. The staff doesn't know the policies because management doesn't inform them at all, or doesn't inform them in a way that everybody can understand. It's either that or they all just don't care. So which is it? I was basically put out because I was wearing a shirt that revealed a small portion of my abdomen (it was either put on a random shirt like they requested, or leave... so I left. But not before another member standing at the desk said the same thing had happened to her at this same location last year, and the employee said they did it to another woman just the other day. So this was an on going issue, I was not the only one they screwed over because of no communication.) The girl told me it was written in the rules over on the wall that I couldn't wear that kind of top. It was NOT. It never was a rule. It was something that had been discussed in a meeting recently, but was not yet decided on. I know the director hates me bringing this one up because she already apologized and felt that we were "covering the same ground", but it very much needs to be brought up again because it does factor into this entire situation. I got crapped on by the Fitness Director when I asked for lighter weight dumbbells to be made EASILY accessible to everyone. In the same room. She was giving me excuses and not polite about it. Frankly, she didn't care. I felt that not providing to/accommodating people with disabilities was borderline discrimination. It wasn't until I went over everybody's heads and asked for what I needed that the director called and said they'd look into ordering some. I'll never know if they did or didn't now. I brought it to their attention that people were bringing pets in, children were being yelled at by staff, etc... All of which was received in a way that would make a person feel that they were NOT being heard and that NO ONE actually cared. I was accused of slander. I don't take kindly to people who threaten me with legal terms that they don't understand, to try to scare me. Not knowing the difference between libel and slander doesn't scare me. It just makes me think you're ignorant and are grasping for anything you possibly can. I was also accused of being racist (it was done under the guise of "concern") because I described two employees by skin color/ethnicity/what they were wearing (I had to do that because I didn't have their names; one was clear across the room so I didn't walk up to him and ask, and the second time was because I didn't read her name tag.. much less would I have remembered her name.) Wtf? My sister in law and my two little nieces are Asian! Absolutely insulting. To add injury to that, the director suspended my membership to every YMCA after she called me to start an altercation. I handed the phone off to my husband as she was in the middle of a rant that could not be stopped. After being accused of being racist (the final straw), I had no intentions of coming back for more and I made that very clear to her in an e-mail after she cut out of her office before my husband could call her back. Next day, I drove 40 minutes with my toddler to the Islands Y to find my membership suspended. She knows I have chronic pain because I sat in her office with my husband and my son and told her that. How would you feel if you drove that far with your toddler in the car to find that out? Congrats, hot head. You called me to start an altercation (in which you kept contradicting yourself and proving I was right about everything that I was bringing to your attention), then suspended me because you don't like hearing about your problems and you got your feelings hurt. Like the classes, but for the price the equipment is limited and old. No bumper plates to deadlift, only 2 squat racks, cables broken a lot. For being such a busy gym in pooler it should be a lot nicer (and bigger). Would love to see it updated much like the statesboro YMCA. read more

Offers some entertaining classes (Zumba, spin, awesome abs) through very enthusiastic and knowledgeable personal trainers. I mainly come here to use the weight room, which is decent and generally uncrowded before 3pm. After that, the folks from Gulfstream start flocking in to the point where I would consider the gym essentially unusable after 5pm. So be sure to get in and out before that time. There hasn't been too many resolutionaries coming through for the new year but there are always a few. Don't worry, they'll be gone in six weeks, like any other gym. read more

Friendly staff. Gym equipment is pretty banged up, which isn't too big of a deal...But some things are unsafe, such as broken hooks on cables, where weights fall or handles come clean off during a rep. Pool hours are a little frustrating, with very staggered schedule and no notification to members about time changes. I have shown up a few times to swim only to find out the pool is closed and they have changed hours again. And only two lanes for swimmers wanting to exercise and the rest is for kids. Lots of classes offered and no negative experiences here with staff. read more

It looks and run like a human farming, they want to collect you as much as possible and provide you services as less as possible. Let's go through and see why: Facility: an old, decrepit place. Staff: except few persons, whole staff is very rude and impolite. They must forget they are there because you are there to pay them salary. The closing time during the week is 21:00. To remind you have to leave (the sooner, the better) at 19:30 they pass the vacuum (Sean is the champion). He walks through the machines with the vacuum machine while you are working out on. Wi-Fi: most of the time it is out of order. When it works, the router get saturated very quickly (reached the maximum numbers of users). Even though when people leave, you still cannot get access to the Wi-Fi, it needs to be reset. Some of employees are willing to do that while others, not. They love to beg them for help. TV: Again, to remind you have to leave, for a long period of time they used to be shut down by 20:15 even though the employee was reminded it is too early and that it is a part of service we pay for. We were totally ignored. This practice ceased after I complained to the management. Cell Phones: you are forbidden to talk on the phones; they justify not to disturb other people. However, you are allowed to talk and laugh as lauder as you want with other people. They have no explanation for this; they idiotically follow the farmer's rule. The only explanation: is to remind you they are the farmer's owners and you are their cattle and you have TO OBEY. Steamer (wet sauna): old and dirty, most of the time it is out of order. The temperature detector in the room is permanently disconnected and the wires are open. This is a safety hazard situation. When it works (very rarely), if you want to use it, don't go after 20:00, it is shut down (it's time for you to leave!). Dry sauna: decent. Working Machines: very old and a lot of them are most of the time out of order. Recommendations: Unless you have to pay a preferential corporation fee, i.e. you pay next to zero and in return you get a service next to zero (fair deal!) don't go there, shop around! read more

Weight room is average but better than a lot of other gyms. They have a nice selection of free weights. The whole place is relatively dirty. They have a kids' basketball court and an adult court yet somehow 75% of the time the adult gym is closed for the kids to play in. Then afterwards the gym is super dirty and the floors are slippery. Never understood that. read more

well where to begin first i would like to tell you about my daughter she is 10 and is a great kid her mother and i love her very much she loves to read, draw,and play outside and on the playground she is a good kid, but like all kids she gets in trouble from time to time. now her mother and i don't believe in corporal punishment for disciplinary action for our daughter, for her it does not work. we use positive reinforcement and we'll place her on restriction if need be. so now you know a little about us let me tell you about the YMCA in pooler GA.. we took our child to them for daycare for the spring break holiday while school was out one week and she played and had fun and this Friday my wife picked her up and went home then the phone rang lo and behold it was DCFS it seems that some one at the YMCA had noticed some bruises on our daughter's leg and arms well they reported it to DCFS like you probably should if you are suspicious of child abuse and then they pulled my child in to a room and told asked her if mommy or daddy ever got mad and did bad things....so on and so forth well. the lady from DCFS comes out to the house and meets with us and takes pictures of our daughter and makes record of the bruises on her legs and arms she then takes my our daughter to the back room to ask her some questions in private we agree and they do. about 15 minutes later they come out and every thing seems to bee fine the lady from DCFS says to us she has to make a call to her supervisor and will be right back then she goes out side. after she comes back in she says she has to inspect one more thing, she has to document the bruises on my daughters neck,shoulders and back.i should mention she insisted on seeing the bruises because the original report specifically stated shoulder neck and back bruises and she had to verify them. uhh but there are not any so i leave the room and go outside while the lady has my child take off her shirt and show her there are no bruises. after i come back in the lady concludes to us that all the bruises are superficial play injuries and not to be concerned about it she then insists that i sign some paper work about some medical history and then leaves. some one at this YMCA falsified abuse evidence for a reason i cant imagine and ill tell you I'm not the first. so if you decide to send your kid to this sub par daycare make sure you look you child over when you drop off and pick them up and note any scrapes and bruises to a concealer or you are guarantied a visit from the DCFS and CPS because these people are looking for any excuse to report you. unfortunately this is one of the only daycare in the area and for some one like myself i have no other option. if you can i implore you find some other means of child care. this place has caused our daughter my wife and myself great stress and anguish with there inability to identify play bruises i would give them less stars if i could but the rating makes you give them at least one. and for the YMCA i will be posting my story of your infractions of falsifying child abuse reports to as many forums as i can find or until my lawyer tells me to stop read more
