The most terrible experience I have ever had. I was in a car accident which wasn't my fault. They wouldn't pay my medical bills unless I settled. I had to pay extensive bills out of pocket. The bottom line is your value as a human being is zero. I don't say this lightly. I sincerely believe they are evil. They didn't pay for the 2 1/2 years I suffered from whiplash and concussion. I had auto and renters insurance with them for nearly a quarter of a century with only one claim in the early 2000's. Despite excellent credit and perfect driving record all they did was raise my rates every year. Then I got a new car this year and they quoted me an insane monthly rate of nearly $300! I promptly canceled my coverage, and they send me a bill for over $200 with a threat of collection agencies or lawsuits to destroy me! They're absolute weasels! You don't just launch a giant unexpected bill on people like this! read more

I have a 4 lb maltese - that is a therapy certified pet and no claims issues and they are charging me for a dangerous or exotic pet. I read through these reviews and felt I had to share my positive experience after my Home burnt down on May 22 2025. As you can imagine this was absolutely devastating for my family and I. We lost our two dogs and cat in a home fire. Luckily no one was home during the fire but we lost everything. Right from the beginning West Bend had someone out there immediately assessing the damage and connecting us with our claim specialist Joe Rathsack. Joe went above and beyond helping us find an Airbnb and getting some money in our pocket so that we could begin replacing clothes and necessities for our kids. He helped us find a rental home and they took care of 12 months of rent right away so we didn't have to worry about anything while we began to start the process of clleaning up and rebuilding. I am a quadriplegic and wheelchair bound so this may finding a proper rental home that much more difficult. West Bend took care of modifying our rental home so I could get in and out and be able to access everything I need inside of the rental home. Every time a bill came in that related to the home Joe took care of it immediately. We were immediately worried after the fire because my uncles home burnt down in the fires in Oklahoma two months prior. He was with State Farm and has had nothing but problems and an absolute horrible experience. I can't imagine dealing with a fire, losing everything, and then having to fight with your insurance company to get things taken care of. I cannot praise this company enough and will go out of my way to refer them. I cannot thank them enough especially JOE! Very difficult to communicate with on claims. They give low ball settlement offers that don't come close to actual damages.

I used WestBends Travelnet to get a tow when my car broke down 45 miles from home. i waited 30 minutes for them to call back with the tow arrangements. they never called I so called them. they had no record of my first call. I had two young children with me so the lady said I can leave the keys in the car and get a ride home. the tow company would tow it without me there. I get a ride home and still no call. I call back - after 55 minutes on the phone, they tell me I have to be with the car for the tow and I need to be there in 30 minutes. I said I just got a ride 45 miles home. he said they can arrive in 45 minutes instead! it's 11pm and a winter storm warning. these people are the worst! I'm cancelling WestBend. read more

They rejected the first claim I submitted, other than my roof for the derecho. Then I went with a much less expensive roof, so they got a break from me. My home had a pipe break and water flood the basement and first floor. By the time I't was discovered the next week, there was mold. They only cover $10.000 mold, but they wouldn't even do that. The rest of the house was insured for over a million. They promised they would pay for another place for me to live, clothes etc. they paid for NOTHING. The remediation companies and one they hired to help, has cost me $500,000.00 just for clean up and talking the house down to the studs. The house was worth approximately 1.6 million. I am destitute now, and I'm going to be 70 years old. I can't sell my house for an amount that will cover my bills. I've lost all of the worth of the house. I don't have the money to rebuild inside. I was planning on selling the house to move closer to my daughter and grandsons. That house was my nest egg, and I wasn't home at the time because my mom died shortly before. The first contact with Ryan- he was acting like a pitbull, aggressive, bullying me, trying to dispute the claim for ruined laminate floor after washer drain issue. I have a home with continuous flooring- no transition strips, etc. He was saying I need to pay 6k deductible, 5k for HOA blanket policy which has nothing to do with a small in home washer leak. One k for their deductible, before he would do anything on my flooring. He was very pushy and unhelpful. He sent a company out without an appt., text, email, call, nothing and expected me to let them video every room of my home for an hour. This after telling me if there were any doors in the home, they would not replace flooring beyond a door. There are doors all over my home! Then he settled the claim for the kitchen floor only, saying the pocket doors in two exits from the kitchen is where he stops new flooring. So they don't make my flooring anymore and he wants me to have two separate kinds of flooring and two divider transition seams in my kitchen exits. This will look horrible and ruin the open flowing concept. And I told him to come check- those pocket doors do not open/close as the current floor was placed blocking the opening of the pocket doors which can't be used. Now I have to pay to have all flooring removed, all furniture removed and stored, all 9 inch baseboards removed and replaced, pay for all new flooring except the small check he sent, etc. Do not get insured with this company! Over 500 days since my claim was filed. Over 365 days since it has been stalled with zero movement. Living in limbo like a gypsy, in a makeshift rental, hoping each day we can begin the process to return to our family home. No solution, action, help, movement in sight. I hope no other family has to go through this experience. My claim stemmed from a burst water pipe that damaged a significant portion of my home. We initially worked through a number of things and then ended up entering the appraisal process where things have been stalled for over a year. For me it's the sheer lack of interest in helping my family move forward, to focus on our claim, to find a solution. The worst is being in this purgatory, not even knowing when we might be able to move forward or return home. I now have a 12mo son who has never lived in his family home. Feeling invisible during your biggest time of need. Consider carefully the help you would want and how you would want your family treated. My experience with West Bend Mutual Insurance is the antithesis of what amazing customer service could be. read more

I usually don't do this, but here it goes!!! Lowes Home Improvement and West Bend Insurance companies have some unethical business practices. My husband and I have a rental property that we have been renting out for the past 10 years and on March 23, 2022 (yes almost one year ago) our tenant reported to us that our 1st floor unit was flooding from the ceiling, water was running from the upstairs unit and water was running down our walls in the hallway bathroom and behind the fridge in the kitchen. Our tenant made several attempts to contact the upstairs neighbor to let them know something in their unit was leaking into our unit, the upstairs neighbor never answer the door and it was clear that someone was home because my tenant could hear them walking upstairs when she was inside her unit. After being unsuccessful with getting them to come to the door, I contacted our homeowner's association for some help to get whatever was leaking shut off and they acted like I was speaking another language and acted and if they did not have the homeowner's information. After about 2 days our homeowner's association gave me the phone number and contact information for the rental company that managed that upstairs unit, I contacted them, and they were able to send a plumber out to their tenants unit to get the leak stopped. This is when I was informed by the rental company that the leaked was the result of a fridge that was not installed properly by Lowes Home Improvement. The fridge was not capped off when it was installed and water leaked down to my unit for several days through the walls and the vents. My husband went to Lowes Home Improvement to make them aware of the damages that were made and given the information to call the corporate office to handle the situation, the corporate office kept bouncing the information back to the local store, in June of 2022 Lowes finally told us that a contactor by the name of AJ Delivery and Moore, LLC was contracted to deliver and install the fridge in that unit. We contacted the contractors insurance company (West Bend Insurance)to file a claim in June and did not receive a call from the claim rep until August. She told my husband to get 3 estimates and send them to her along with pictures of the damages, which we did and got no response again, so my husband called the insurance company back and was told not to rush the claims rep because it will make her mad and will cause her to take her time with our claim. The claims rep finally sent out a inspector that was overwhelmed by the amount of damage to our unit in October 2022. Which brings us to January where we received a letter from West Bend Insurance that stated the following: We are the liability insurance carrier for the above insured. It is our desire to thoroughly investigate every claim which is reported to us and to make payment for those losses for which our insured is liable. Our insured did not cooperate with us in the investigating of this claim. Our insured's policy of insurance specifically excludes coverage when there is non cooperation. As such, we are denying coverage for this claim. As there is no coverage for this claim, there is no coverage for your property damage. We must respectfully deny your claim. Also, I forgot to mention I had to serve my paying tenant with a 30 day notice to vacate the property in March after the property damage due to the concern of black mold and how damaged the ceiling, walls, and carpet was due to severe water damage. I would have never in a million years expected a huge company like Lowes or a insurance company to string people along and treat them like this and my husband encountered a manager at the local Lowes location that treated and talked to him like he was scum off her shoe when he went to the store this last time about this issue, horrible customer service. They forget that they are stepping on people in the community that supports their business and shopped in their stores, also we have been paying the mortgage and homeowners fees out of pocket since April. We just can not believe this is happening to us! Now we have to go to court!!!!! read more

West Bend Mutual Insurance Company charged me an extra $875.00 after I cancelled my insurance with them. They said their auditor reviewed my business and their liability insurance and although I filed no claims with them they said I owed extra after I cancelled. read more

A Total Joke... A driver insured by West Bend runs a traffic light, I hit the guy head on with my 1 ton truck that gets totaled (I got paid 2/3rds of the trucks value), and I get injured. It was all caught on a dashcam by a truck driver directly behind me. This was not a simple fender bender, both his car & my truck were totaled. Within days I have $18,000 in medical bills they say they will not pay until I take their offer of $1,500 settlement offer. So months later they tell me how they are being surprisingly generous with their offer, and how my medical bills will continue to go unpaid. Now the wife and I are retired, and have good credit, or had until this. I explained that my good credit will be no credit when the medical bills go into collections. Laurie Cook, of West Bend Ins. represents Blain's Farm and Fleet in Waukesha, Wi, where my husband tripped on one of their skids and fell flat on his face, breaking three ribs, and his right hand. He also hit his chin very hard, leaving it bloodied. He had gone to pick up our order. NO ONE came to his assistance, or called for an ambulance. My husband and I do not drink alcohol, so that was not an issue. The personnel who were standing in the vicinity just allowed him to get up on his own, (he is 78 years old,) and to limp off to his car. We received a letter from Laurie Cook last week, complaining about the medical information we have been trying to provide to her. We have insurance, which has paid my husband's medical bills. Here is the last paragraph in the letter we received from this incompetent individual last week: "Based on the information you provided, we do not believe that Farm & Fleet was liable for this unfortunate incident. Our policy has medical payment coverage that is available toward related medical bills not covered by other collectible insurance up to their limit of $1,000.00 without regard to fault and is primary to Medicare." As a result of the actions by these two companies, we would recommend shopping at Fleet Farm or Menards, which care about their customers. Good customer care on the phone. Very nice people in the office. After 20 years as a customer I had a claim and was thoroughly disappointed with the care I received. Seemed like I was dealing with a second rate company when the rubber met the road. Very disappointed in how I was treated. I always felt that I was getting a more personal touch than I would have with the bigger companies but I was mistaken. Would have been better off with one of the big boys. As a small business owner, I strongly recommend NOT using Bruce Wozny or Lagastee insurance .Bruce sold me a business insurance policy that "covered everything". When I had a fraudulent law suit filed by a former employee, I discovered I was not covered. AT ALL! I have since spent over $100,000.00 of my company's money fighting the law suit. I even hired an insurance coverage lawyer and discovered that my claim should have not been denied. Now I have to pursue legal action against West Bend insurance at an additional cost. I trusted Bruce Wozny to be truthful with me and am completely dismayed and disgusted that he lied and sold me an inadequate policy for which I was paying $1500/month. After dropping Lagastee Insurance and West Bend, I was able to find superior coverage at a lower cost. read more

West Bend made it nearly impossible to pay my bill on multiple billing cycles, claiming it was my banks problem. My bank then confirmed the payment was processing just fine, then their system was rejecting it. Finally I changed insurance companies and they sent a final bill. I informed them and faxed proof that they were overlapping my new coverage. They claimed not to have received the proof, not that they need it since I never had a claim. Also, I was paying the fee to be billed quarterly, and they tacked on a years worth of those fees to the last bill I got, and don't want to remove them. Avoid this company. read more

I strongly advise against West Bend for home insurance. A hail storm recently came through our neighborhood severely damaging both of our cars, as well as our roof, siding, gutters, and window sills. While West Bend was willing to cover the car damage, they were only willing to cover a small portion of the damage to our home. I had an initial home inspector come after the storm. He clearly documented in photos damage to our shingles caused by the storm. West Bend's adjuster disagreed, telling me verbatim "He's a roofer. He wants your money." This of course ignores the fact West Bend is an insurer that has an interest in avoiding payments, but I let it slide. I did however hire a second home inspector who agreed with the first, clearly documenting damage caused by the hail storm. I was under no obligation to have any damage fixed by the first or second inspector. They were entirely impartial, simply offering their expert opinions. I sent pictures provided by the second inspector to West Bend who then hired their own inspector. This inspector found damage to our shingles, but didn't consider it "consequential" enough to be covered by West Bend, the insurance company to whom I pay an annual premium to cover damage to my home. Asking what my course of action was at this point, I was told I could go through a long, drawn-out process to appeal their decision (which I'm sure wouldn't go my way) if I were to pay a $1,500 fee. Very important to note is that at least six other houses in our neighborhood, including our next door neighbor, had roofs replaced by insurance due to damage from the same storm. Clearly, West Bend has a well-thought-out strategy to avoid covering expensive damage to homes. Do your homework and don't be afraid to pay a couple extra bucks in premiums if you'd like insurance you can count on. read more

When our office air-conditioning went down, we lost work due to 90 degree temperatures in our office. WBI was very disappointing, in that they did not put in the work to contact the contractor (which WE had to find through our landlord) for a "death assessment of our roof unit. Instead, they fall back on 'contractors don't like to speak with insurance companies' - they were brazen enough to tell us that WE had to obtain the info that WBI required. State Insurance Commissioner now involved. I run a very small business, not asking for much. My employees need to get pay for the week they lost. read more

I was hit by a driver insured by West Bend and the driver admitted fault TWICE at the scene. LoAnn Trudel at West Bend was beyond rude, unethical and denied my claim. The photos I sent to West Bend prove that I was not at fault. Thankfully State Farm is ethical and will be fighting West Bend to recoup my out of pocket costs. read more

Unethical claims adjuster and claims manager. Made one claim in 6 years. Hail and wind damaged my roof and even caused interior damage. Adjustor didn't even go on roof and said it was poor workmanship not storm damage. I called for a second opinion. Claims manager sends out same adjustor, same opinion. Multiple roofing contractors went on roof and documented damage and probable cause. West Bend is forcing me to hire an appraiser to move process forward. read more

I was in an accident where the driver admitted fault (he had West Bend) and I had GEICO. Working with West Bend was a nightmare---they did everything they good to delay estimates, repairs, reimbursement, etc. They only paid up to 80% and said "they would send that to me in the mail, if I didnt agree with it, what I do is up to me" Just a really shady company. When a driver admits fault to myself and the officer---that should be the easy ones---not fight it too and nail. read more

I am not insured by them, but I did have a claim against someone they insured. They collected all information and, after a reasonable amount of time, came to a correct determination and quickly issued a check. They also handled the cost of the rental vehicle by dealing directly with the company. Once the determination had been made, there were no real issues. They did take a little bit of time investigating the accident, however, this falls under "due dilligence" and should be expected. read more
