I went to Toro Latino for the first time last night for a friend's birthday meal, we were a group of 7 and it proved an excellent choice of venue. It was my first experience of tapas - and for those not in the know - the basic premise is that you choose a variety of small dishes which everyone then shares. It worked well for our group. The restaurant is cosy - ie quite small but with a vibrant and friendly atmosphere and the food is excellent. On a saturday night night they have 2 sittings. The first from about 7 until 8.45 and the second from 8.45 until closing (we left at around 10.45). On arrival we have to grab another chair as there was still a couple of diners from the previous sitting still chatting at one of the tables reserved for us. It was a bit selfish of them, and I don't blame the restaurant. Anyway they left about 10 minutes later. We received the menus promptly but then had to wait a while before we were asked about drinks. A restaurant should attend to this as soon as you sit down in my opinion. The menu is excellent - plenty of seafood, plenty of meat dishes and plenty of vegetarian dishes. Could maybe add a couple more desserts on there though. The wine list is good - we had 4 bottles of rioja between us at an affordable £12.50 per bottle. We stared with 3 salads, a paella and a meat and cheese board between 7 - and straight away I was impressed with the stanard of fayre on offer. Quality chorizo and serrano ham, and a delicious cheese containing orange peel were some highlights, although I felt there could have been more prawns and chicken in the paella. I love food, and it was a really fun experience when the main dishes arrived. We were passing the dishes between us and trying a little of everything. The mussels were good, the anchovies and the tiger prawns were delicous (and complemented so well by the rioja). The steak enchilladas and the new potatoes were really spicy and the stuffed jalapenos mouthwatering. Between the 7 of us we ordered about 16 dishes, probably 2 or 3 too many in all honesty. So I'd recommend 2 dishes per person. We still had plenty salad and such left from the starters to go with the mains. we were all stuffed after the meal, although I did manage to squeeze in a slice of cheesecake. ;) delicious. We paid £25 each - including a tip. And that got us a table crammed with delicious and exciting foods and plenty to drink (4 bottles decent red between the 5 of us who were drinking). I'd definitely recommend Toro Latino as an excellent restaurant with quality food, and as a really fun eating experience - especially for a medium to large sized group. I'll definitely go there again. =)

Great tapas variety, good service, nice atmosphere generally a nice place to visit for dinner…read more Staff were happy to customise a couple of dishes for us (e.g. no mayo on the mozerella sticks!). Would benefit from ice in the buckets for the Corona, but the frozen Margaritas were quite yummy! You need to book a table, as its a popular place.

Anyway once seated we were just in time for happy hour cocktails (2 for £12). I shared a classic margarita which was very well executed. The food had a nice variety, I really wanted a starter but wanted room for churros later. For mains we had chicken moules (chocolate sauce) tilapia in Chipotle , steak with prawns and fajitas. Everything came with rice (suspected microwave rice?) And a good amount of guacamole, beans and veg with the fajitas. Prior to the food arriving the manager let us all Try the moules sauce in case we didn't like it and pretended to blow his brains out when my wine was forgotten.. the steak was cooked perfectly and my tilapia Everyone seemed to enjoy. As for desserts I ended up having a cherry chocolate concoction it was absolutely gorgeous and my partner had the churros. Overall I really enjoyed the food and the service was fun. Just wasn't sure about the rice !
