The people their are the reason why it is known as the "Friendly Food Pantry". If you are a family in need/or a student in need please come by and they will assess your need for emergency food. They accept food donations so if you are looking for a place to volunteer or donate foods give them a call! They are open on Mondays (with the exception of Federal Holidays) from 12:30pm to 2:30pm and from 6:00pm to 7:30pm.

Volunteers allow the GBFB to defer nearly $600,000 in payroll costs. Wow. Volunteers help in many ways, but mainly by inspecting, sorting and re-packing food at the Roxbury warehouse. Here is what my team accomplished in an afternoon shift: . Number of volunteers: 43 . Total pounds of food sorted: 10,412 (Ten Thousand Pounds!) . Total pounds of food salvaged: 8,330 . Pounds of food sorted per volunteer: 194 . Meals made possible per volunteer: 149 . Total meals made possible by NAIOP volunteers: 6,407 There are many ways to help. You can donate money. You have to go to the last YMCA entrance on your left side…read more If you haven't been here before you have to fill out an online form on your phone but it only takes about 3 minutes and can be done right before you get food. You can park and go wait in the shade at the table next to the building or stay in your car in the car line and move up as the line moves. If it's your first time you have to park and go to the building to fill out the form. If you go wait at the table let the lady with the clipboard know so you can get your place in line on the clipboard. If you stay in the car she will come up to your window and take your name. Remember to bring bags to carry your food in. They have a good amount of pasta, rice, snacks and canned goods. They also have some juice, breads and desserts. No fresh meat but a small selection of frozen meat. Small selection of eggs, yogurt, salad mix, fruit, veggies and bathroom type items. Definitely worth going for sure.

Shouldn't the key issue be the opinions of poor people who are actually eating the food, reviewing the quality of the food, the freshness, the amounts, the dignity with which they're treated (or not?) The place is doing so well that they are expanding, but I'm sure they would appreciate donations. The first time I cam here I was really impressed by the professionalism. You have to waah your hand pretty thoroughly, wear gloves, an apron, and a hairnet. Hairnets are super weird balls of hair that magically unravel to cover your hair. If you want to be a cool kid, you can wear a hat so your hair doesn't fall in the food. Duties range all over the place, but don't expect to cook anything. You will be packaging a lot, moving things around, and also maybe cut up some vegetables or meat. If you pick the morning session, you will usually be rewarded with a meal at lunch that's pretty good.
