I cashed two small amount checks for cash the first month I came to Nevada and had no problem. The next time I needed cash from my account and I asked for large bills for a road trip, again, no worries. On a later visit, I specifically needed a notary of public and it was taken care of for me just as it had been done so annually for years in Sonora. They've also played a pivotal part in helping us fix our credit. They've always been there when we needed something. I could sing their praises all day. If you can't get a product or service here, it's because your credit or payment history situation simply won't allow it. They have rules to follow like any other financial institution. They're not above laws, rules, or basic considerations and practices that keep their business healthy just because they're local.

I discovered them online and while I'm not active duty, my father served for 28 years which makes my mother and I eligible for membership. Rinnie B. (one of the managers) at this branch is truly outstanding. She not only answered several questions about my checking account, but got me approved for a credit card (with a much larger limit) and half the interest I was paying with another bank that promises to be "of America" in its name. Not only did she do this, but helped my mom move her accounts over, and even refinanced her new car at less than half the rate of a bank with a stagecoach in its logo... The only complaint is that if you make a deposit at a non-Navy Fed ATM, there's a 5 day hold on the deposit. Given that most ATM's are ones which do not require envelopes, I would think that the deposit could be verified instantly. Other than that, Navy Federal is an excellent financial partner.

How does a bank that works with military not exchange foreign currency?!? "We don't have access to exchange rates and just don't deal with any of that." That's like one of the 5 basic services you might need from a physical bank. I can maybe understand not stocking foreign cash, but at least having the basic functionality to quote a fair rate and exchange dollars at a minimum. They actually recommended I try Wells Fargo out in town, lol. Additionally, I attempted to finance a home through NFCU and dealt with so much incompetence from the loan officer I pulled the plug and started over with USAA and had a much better experience.

I was told that the USAA debit would be immediate, but due to the amount, it would take a week for me to receive the cash. I said that I would be right in to do that. At the bank, the teller started the transaction. During the transaction, the branch manager, Georgia Harvey, abruptly stepped in and denied the request--solely because I didn't have an account there. When I asked to open one, she refused, saying I was "too aggressive." I asked for a written denial, and she took me to her office. Instead of providing the letter, she accused me of mocking her and clearly tried to provoke a reaction. I began recording and reminded her that the bank's cameras would show I hadn't said anything inappropriate. She threw my Military ID at me and called me an "A-hole" (all on my video). She also shouted "SEE YA" across the lobby as I left. There were no other customers present, thankfully. The WaFd assistant manager and clerk were respectful and professional. I completed the same transaction at US Bank without issue and opened a local account there. I submitted the video to WaFd corporate. Their response?
