The vet tech also provided me with information on financial assistance grants and things if I needed it and they even went above and beyond and clipped her nails and showed me how to properly clean her ears. I love that they take Willie (our elderly basset hound mix) out of the room to do exams. It really is easier on both of us, especially when I have my children in tow as well. And while they do charge for nail trimming and ear cleaning (unlike other vets we've used in the past in other parts of the country), they are reasonably priced. I also love that Dr. Pape always gives me the final say when it comes to making decisions about treatment options/medications/etc. He is quick to educate, but always wants his patients/customers to make the final decision. I appreciate the honesty and integrity that uses in his business. I've seen a few of the other doctors in this office as well and have always been impressed. I have been a dedicated client at Heritage Animal Hospital for 3 years, but after the systemic…read morefailures, medical errors, and shocking lack of empathy my dog experienced this weekend, I have officially transferred my records elsewhere. My dog has a collapsing trachea and required a specific compounded, savory-flavored liquid hydrocodone because he cannot tolerate sweet flavors or tablets. On Friday, the clinic texted me verbatim: "we were able to call in the liquid hydrocodone in a beef flavor into Smith's Pharmacy." They never told me I needed to pick up a physical hard copy for a controlled substance, leading me to believe everything was legally and correctly handled. When I arrived at Smith's Pharmacy to pick it up, the pharmacy only had a sweet cherry syrup. The pharmacy explicitly confirmed that a vet tech named Mariah had called in cherry syrup, directly contradicting the clinic's written text confirmation to me. When I contacted the clinic, they tried to deflect blame by claiming the pharmacy wrote it down wrong, it exposed an even worse administrative failure: because hydrocodone is a controlled substance, a physical hard copy is legally required. If they truly intended to order the correct compound as they claimed, where was the paperwork? The clinic never generated a hard copy, never left one at the desk, and never told me to pick one up. When I called the clinic to have this corrected before their noon closing on Saturday, I spoke to a tech, directly stating I was angry at the clinic's errors but knew it wasn't her personal fault. I was placed on hold for the covering vet, Charles Lewis. Instead of helping, Lewis spent his time actively arguing with me on the phone. The exact time he wasted arguing is time he could have easily used to open my dog's record, see the text proof, and sign the correct script. He then claimed he couldn't sign the script because he 'had never seen Jack'--a completely invalid excuse in a shared-practice clinic where another vet authorized Jack's new prescriptions under a shared VCPR without seeing Jack in the past 12 months. I asked could my dog come in at the end of their day, Lewis then stated he 'would not pay his workers to stay 10 minutes after' to fix his own staff's written error. I stated it was unacceptable and I questioned his actual compassion for animals as vet and why would he let my dog suffer until Monday. He became cowardly with a wounded ego and threatened that the clinic would hold a meeting on Monday to terminate me as a client for demanding the mistake be corrected. Because of their pharmacy errors, missing paperwork, and Lewis's refusal to spend two minutes correcting an egregious mistake, a loyal patient of 3 years with a collapsing trachea was abandoned and left without vital breathing medication for the entire weekend. If you want a vet practice that accepts responsibility for their mistakes, accurately logs prescriptions, follows through on written confirmations, and prioritizes a choking animal over a clock, look somewhere else, I did. I had my records transferred that day to CountrySide Veterinary. My dog was seen and treated properly with compassions and ethics.

My friend had recently posted on Facebook about the beautiful home send-off of her best feline friend of 20 years, and before that I thought the only way was to make those soul-crushing car rides and have it done in a place that usually scares them. We decided that calling someone in to do it in Spatz's favorite spot by the window where she'd doze off while watching the constant action at the bird feeders would be perfect. Dr. Beth was professional, explaining each part of the process beforehand and during it, asking permission between each step and giving us all the time we needed to process each one. While Spatz was whacked out on the sedative, Dr. Beth made a lovely casting of her paw print as a keepsake and offered to snip a lock of fur, which we declined to do. When she confirmed the deed was done, she expressed her condolences and discreetly slipped away to allow us to grieve privately as a family. Everything she did for us was perfect, and we're so grateful to have been able to give Spatz that one last gift of drifting away painlessly in her sleep with the assistance of a compassionate soul. It's a god-awful thing to have to say goodbye to someone that's a cherished part of your life, but I'm absolutely convinced that doing it at home is the most wonderful way to do it - both for your animal friend and for sparing yourself the agony of seeing how afraid they are at the clinic so soon before they go and being helpless to stop it.

My cat had a urinary obstruction, they told us the bladder flush procedure would take 2 hours and that he was priority because he was in life threatening condition, we waited 5 hours until it was done and still had to wait 30 MORE minutes after paying for them to bring him out to us (he was literally just sitting in the back in his cage, we could see him). Paid $750 just for his blockage to come back and for my cat to die 2 days later. Absolutely ridiculous, I would recommend no one should ever take their pet here.
