Krems is situated right in the middle of hills covered with wine. This picturesque medieval town shows bowlder from the main Austrian river Danube that surrounds the town.
Although the city is located approx. 1 hour's drive from Vienna, there is a train every hour leading from Vienna, Spittelau, NO problems at all - which is fascinating because of OEBB (national train company) you usually have lots of problems.
The whole town was very nicely renovated keeping the medieval as well as the workers' home style of the 1920s (Austrian tobacco industry).
in Krems one of the best universities of Austria is situated, the "Donau-Universität Krems" (Danube University of Krems) offering internationally recognized economic and political studies. In the past 20 years the university has been expanded, thus today it covers two sides of the street combining the very appealing medieval style (green wood and bowlder) with the modern style (glass , grey, brightness) of architecture resulting in a very harmonic complete eyecatcher.
The Austrian labor office is here located in one of two medieval city tower s in the city wall being the entrance to the pedestrian zone which is unique in the whole of Austria.
The pedestrian zone shows lots of tradition, nice little coffee shops and traditional Austrian inns offering traditional very tasty Austrian food at reasonable prices. People here are very friendly and open-minded. Asking for the way you hardly get a wrong or unfriendly answer.
Here you can even find the one and only wine academy as well as a caricature museum.
The streets are very clean and almost all houses are in good shape. The hundred year old trees in the local park offer lots of shade and the numerous benches invite you for a recreational stay after a long walk through town.
Besides the various events offer lots of entertainment for young and old.
This town is really a gem!!!
