I've had the good fortune to have bombed around a few beach towns over the past couple of years, mostly on the West Coast, but some on the East Coast too. They are fun and generally pretty low key. Unfortunately, if you don't come armed with your own music, the radio in many of these places seems to drift towards "Freebird" and "We Built This City on Rock 'n'Roll". Ugh! I don't mind a yearly dose of Freebird, but that's kind of the end of it for me. Enter WEHM. (http://www.wehm.com/) They call themselves "progressive" which might be a bit optimistic, but they throw in some Cure, X, Lou Reed, Patti Smith, etc. in with their Bruce Springsteen, Peter Gabriel, Bonnie Raitt, etc. It's definitely a rock station, but a smart one. You won't have to get your plaid shirt and duct taped shorts out any more than your black frock and pancake makeup to listen. They also play just enough new stuff to keep it interesting. One of the things that I always LOVE about these little stations, and by no means is this phenomenon isolated just to small beach towns, is the locally produced commercials. "Hi, I'm Jim, the Car Doctor." "Hi, I'm Rod, the Car Nurse" (Together) "We wanna FIX YOUR CAR" Or whatever. They're always good for a little giggle. WEHM is no exception. They have the surfer dude from the local surf shop giving updates on the tide, etc. Funny stuff. So what, I'm easily amused. WEHM - Radio Stations Near Me - Amagansett, New York

WEHM is one of the best stations I've listened to & is always my go to choice when I need to listen to the radio. In CT/RI there isn't much decent to listen to other than college radio which can be hit or miss so I'm glad that I can pick up WEHM's signal along the coast. WEHM gets it right with all their DJ personalities. They aren't obnoxious or gimmicky like most stations. The music is what matters & they do have a great playlist. I've checked their website to see what song they were playing so I could seek out the artist quite a few times. I would say their music is mature without being old & stuffy. Eclectic is another way to describe it but it's just an awesome blend. You get old & new plus stuff no other station would play, at least around here. Nelson mentioned the commercials which are interesting to say the least. They're mostly low budget & not annoying but there's one for a trash company that is so irritating. Even though WEHM is still the best & I'll continue to listen when I don't have my iPod in my car. read more

Wait...there's only one review of WEHM and it's from years ago? What's wrong with all you Hamptons folks? This is one of the best non-NPR radios stations out there. Maybe all the residents of the East End are too busy watching Plum TV to listen to WEHM. Their loss. I'm an infrequent visitor to the South Folk, but WEHM has a preset in my aging SAAB (#6 for any future passengers). read more
