David, your almost annual "good riddance" pieces do nothing to ingratiate you to people like me; after all we absentee homeowners pay for the bulk of services the Town of East Hampton boasts about. These services are, after all, a selling point, aren't they? For your community and for your publication at the very least. Mercenary? You bet. I am writing today, finally, because of the once again obnoxious restaurant review in your paper which I received via email. I will not name the restaurant as they are not at fault. You highlight a restaurant that features $25 burgers not always prepared to order, steaks at $59, guests being passed over for reserved seating for "in" patrons, be they "locals" or the wealthy, etc., etc.. You and anyone else familiar with this once lovely town know exactly what I am referring to. You and your cohort obviously dine at these restaurants as non paying (forgive the vulgarity) "guests"; your readers are, instead, expected to pay the exorbitant prices, often for second rate, though, highly touted by you, fare, often for subpar service. What I find unnerving is that you, as editor of the Star, which is supposed to serve the entire community, including those who can barely pay their bills, regularly genuflex to the owners of these outrageously expensive establishments. You simultaneously do not ever lose the opportunity to vaunt your liberal, dare I say, extreme left values in your opinion pieces. Have you no shame, sir, to quote a well known phrase.

Rarely do you find such smart reporting combined with in-depth coverage of topics of interest to the town. Every issue is a testimony to the values of old-fashioned journalism. But there is a sad story here. Local newspapers are an out-dated business model and people, increasingly, are turning to the gizmo that you are reading this on now - not to mention not reading at all. The East Hampton Star stands for the best in what the media should be - a watchdog of government and the town-crier of events presented with intelligence and artful phrases. So go out and buy the latest issue now - while you can.

Both nights, the weather was perfect and the views were unforgettable, watching the sunset over the water with the yachts in the background was pure magic. SíSí provided the food, wine, and drinks, and both events brought in so many local brands and businesses with mocktails, cocktails, food samples, and desserts, everything was delicious. I tried swordfish for the first time (so moist and buttery, honestly perfect), the freshest oysters, ceviche and raw tuna I'm still thinking about, and a S.Pellegrino Ciao Cherry that I loved. There was also live entertainment and even fireworks at one of the events, they truly packed so much into one evening. Everyone was so warm and welcoming all night, and it's clear SíSí and all the vendors put real care into making these events special. The space itself is gorgeous and perfect for hosting, I'd love to stay overnight here someday soon. If you ever get the chance to attend a Dan's Papers event don't pass it up. Sometimes we forget what's right in our own backyard here on Long Island. Ten out of ten, highly recommend! Thank you to everyone who made both of these evenings possible, especially Dan's Paper!

How unfortunate that a publication has chosen to limit all of their events to those vaccinated or…read morerequiring a COVID test for those who have no symptoms. This is not support of a community or common sense. Many of events over the summer are outside, the vaccine is not FDA approved (it is still in trials), the insurance carriers soon will start charging for Testing and it's discriminatory. Shame on Dans Papers for promoting and requiring these segregating actions. Not fair to those who are unable to get the vaccine or those who simply are hesitant. Requiring a PCR within 72 hours is also unreasonable as most take 5 days.
