We were surprised to see the newest residents, capybaras that arrived only two weeks ago. We could have spent the entire day watching the playful antics of the adorable capybaras playing in the water and also on land. Another favorite were the kangaroos. A baby Joey was in and out of his mother's pouch. Adorable and so much fun to watch. The driving part was truly an experience. Our vehicle was approached by llamas, zebras, buffalo, and deer seeking food from the buckets we had purchased in the gift shop. The animals roam freely throughout the hundreds of acres. The camels tried to grab the entire bucket of food! We had to hold the buckets tightly while they ate from them. The employees are extremely friendly and helpful, happy to discuss the various animals. The entire experience was very educational. We spent several hours here and truly would have enjoyed staying the entire day if we could have, but had previously scheduled another engagement. We want to return and bring other friends along for the experience.

While the website was impressive, we had no idea the treat we were in for! The staff is warm and welcoming. The camp is family run, and it is obvious that the rest of the staff are included in that warmth. Our students had a blast on the zip lines and ropes courses, and grew together as a group through the facilitated team building activities. As a director of Residential Life it was incredibly heart warming watching the students open up to each other and work together in a new way. Honestly, I really can't say enough good things. Even though my husband and I were the only chaperones of 25 teens (with our two kids), we felt relaxed the entire time. Because of the staff's collaboration with us, we knew the students were taken care of. It made the entire adventure a relaxing experience - which, believe me, is a huge feat. While there were threats of a storm (which never happened) we felt perfectly safe with the camp's procedures. Any of our group's random complications were handled with grace and support. You can really tell the thought and care that Susan, Ron, Natalie, and the rest of the crew put into the entire experience. If you are looking for a fun, easy, and transformative experience for a group- I HIGHLY recommend you contacting Susan and Ron at Butter and Egg Adventures!!

One of the things my hubby and I loved the most is that the Gulfarium also serves as a rehabilitation center for marine life. Many animals are treated and released back into the ocean whenever possible, while others that could not survive in the wild are given a safe and caring home. We saw a sea turtle with two missing flippers, which was both heartbreaking and made us happy at the same time since it wouldn't stand a chance to live in the wild. We watched both the sea lion and dolphin shows, and they were great. It was so nice to see that the trainers genuinely care about the animals. The animals were rewarded with plenty of treats, attention, and affection throughout the presentations. My favorite part of the entire visit was seeing the manatees. I had only ever seen them in pictures before, and I completely fell in love. They are such gentle, peaceful, and beautiful creatures. I could have watched them all day!

We saw stingrays, dolphins, penguins, manatees, turtles, crocodiles, pelicans, snakes, lizards, frogs, and many other animals. Even though we missed the scheduled shows, there was still plenty to see and enjoy at our own pace. One of the best parts was learning that they care for many rescue animals and help rehabilitate and release them back into the ocean when possible. It was great seeing a place focused on marine animal rescue and conservation. The park was family friendly and easy to walk through, with lots of close-up animal encounters. The reason for 4 out of 5 stars instead of 5 is that some of the animal habitats and viewing areas were not very well maintained. A few tanks had noticeable algae buildup, which made it difficult to clearly see some of the animals. Overall though, we still had a good experience and would recommend visiting if you are in the Fort Walton Beach area.

I went with a summer camp so I cannot comment on the prices. Everyone gets their own pair of socks to keep that does not slip. Well...mine slipped once while trying to climb up to get on a step. But other than that out of a thousand chances, I say the socks pass the test. Most of the walkways are padded soft for kids. There is a snack bar. The bar seems to offer mostly ice cream. My only complaint is that in one section, there are a bunch of plastic balls not in a ballpit. These seem very unnecessary because of all the things to climb, slide, or run through. I saw many kids pegging each ootherwise them and one kid that I didn't know threw one at me that hit me in the neck. The balls just seem to be nothing more than an irritant. I also wonder if staff supervises play. I was there with a camp so I supervised my kids. But the only staff I saw was at the front desk. There is a waiver to sign and they have 4 computers set up front. You complete the waiver over the computer. TheXtreme Air is located in the old Sony plant across from Flowers. This was a brilliant use of an abandoned building.

Overall, it was a good experience and we would highly recommend the zoo to people who enjoy learning about animals or just want something different to do. On a fun note we appreciated that the signage told us the names of some of the animals like two emus named Karen and water buffaloes named fast and slow, if you're a fan of Veggietales, you'll get that last reference.
