I took my dogs to The Weekend Vet after spending time calling around looking for a veterinarian who would simply quote rabies and other vaccination prices over the phone. Unfortunately, in the Brownsville area, very few clinics are willing to provide that information upfront. The Weekend Vet did exactly that. They were transparent, helpful, and quoted me over the phone without any issue, which immediately put me at ease and made the decision easy. Once there, the visit was smooth and professional. They took care of my dogs' vaccinations with no problems, and the staff was efficient and caring throughout the process. Transparency and good customer service are hard to find, and The Weekend Vet delivered both. This is officially my new veterinary home. read more

Weekend Vet - On our way to receive care. - Veterinarians Near Me - Brownsville, Texas

Be very careful. Wooding takes shortcuts to save money and perform more surgeries, like hiring a non-English speaking "vet tech", Daniel Lopez, to perform surgery who has not passed the required exams to qualify for a veterinary technician nor a veterinarian assistant, telling me she "cannot operate her business without him." She also allows this unlicensed employee to transport deadly drugs off the premises to euthanize animals when she is not in town. Wooding was reported to the Veterinarian Licensing Commission in Austin by her own employees who have been in fear of getting in trouble. Her former employer, Dr Coulter, who fired her, said, "You can tell a Cornell graduate but you can't' tell 'em what to do." Her arrogance will be her downfall. Please don't let her take your pet with her. And anybody who works with her should run before she brings you down, too. read more

Was relieved to have such fast service on a Friday afternoon, after all the other vets in town refuse to see anyone! Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Also, very friendly. I would go back there if it weren't so far out! read more

The Vet pretends to care for your dog, but this place is all about money. My dog was sick with bronchitis for over a year, and this vet reported she was fine. Now she is due for her vaccines, and they charge $20 just to hold an appointment. They use essential oils which are harmful for animals and this place is just not good. Go to Boca Chica Animal Hospital instead. read more

Love Weekend Vet! Open on weekends! I would make an appointment. Staff is very friendly

We just had an emergency with my dog who ate a chocolate bar and we were having no success with the hydrogen peroxide method. We rushed to the weekend vet (as it is a Sunday and the only place open in Brownsville), and we were informed that there is absolutely no vet staff in today. What's the point of a supposed weekend vet if there is no staff to help in times of need? I do not recommend going here for any kind of emergency with your pet. (Thankfully after we left, we were able to get our dog to vomit after a second attempt with 2 tsp of hydrogen peroxide). read more

Vets are thinking about the money and not the animals. They ask for so much what my dogs need and I end up having to pay 400 dollars. Not even a payment plan they do. Very sad. read more

Took my dog for an emergency without an appointment late in the afternoon and was told to come back tomorrow morning when they opened and would only take the first 5 walk ins, I was 3rd in line and they only took one walk ins because they were busy for the rest of the day with surgeries, super upsetting had a hard time finding my dog another vet to take him in for his pain. Please avoid this place if you have a pet emergency read more

My 16.5 year old cat was showing signs of distress and having euthanized older fur babies before, I knew it was time for him to be relieved of his pain. I called and I got an appointment at 3:30pm on a Saturday. My cat was already stressed (he went blind from kidney disease a month earlier) so I asked for a room because there were many dogs barking (normal). I was holding my cat in my arms to prevent more stress on him. I then was told that there was NO ROOMS available even though my euthanasia appointment was at 3:30pm and it was past this time. There is no sitting room either. When I expressed my disappointment, the clerk told me "we were trying to fit you in"...I was NEVER TOLD I was a "fit in" when I called. Then she said "you can go wait in your car and we will call you when a room becomes available". I WALKED OUT at this time. There is NO empathy for dying pets at this place. My sweet boy suffered for another day until I was able to take him to find peace at a different location. read more

Moved to Brownsville a year ago, went to a different vet that was HORRIBLE! Found weekend vet after and LOVED, LOVED LOVED them! It's not a typical vet office, and yes very often there is a short wait (sometimes there is long wait) but if your not there for emergency, then go at a different time! I have waited in other vets offices when I did have an appointment, but they were awesome to my fur babies , Willow and Denali. We are moving again, they emailed me all their records for the new vet. If your new to the area, and your babies need shots etc. look no further. Staff is awesome! read more

Even during the Covid Pandemic they were very organized. During the pandemic you need an appointment just like any business to provide safety for all people. We arrived and of course called them that we were outside and they got our information and told us we could wait in our vehicles and would call us or come out to our vehicle to let us know we were next. Then during the time we were inside the consultation room the staff were super friendly and respectful. And for third he was very clean. And they remember Who your pets are. I recommend them to anyone. read more

Love this vet! Take my dog for all his vaccines and heart worm prevention and flea pills. Emergencies are by appointments only as it states on their website. Other than that it is amazing and the staff is amazing and answers all of my questions. read more

I highly recommend the weekend vet. TMI to all pet parents but my pup requires an anal gland expression every two weeks and he's always taken care of here. I've taken him in with a skin condition that I scheduled an appointment for and he was also well taken care of and the medicine they prescribed had him healed in no time. They are very understanding of financial situations and work with you and around your budget if you can't afford every medication/test. They are a small office with ONLY ONE VETERINARIAN in a community with thousands of pets, so we have to be understanding that the wait time for an appointment may be long. Brownsville needs more vet offices and we DEFINITELY need an emergency 24 hour pet hospital! The Weekend Vet does NOT offer emergency services so please look into the closest one you can find and be prepared in case of an emergency. read more

My 5 yoa GSD became extremely ill on Easter Sunday and his primary vet in San Benito was closed. So I took him to this facility for examination. While there he violently vomited a yellow gelatinous mass as I tried to get him outdoors to prevent messing up the office. I have to say they did start to treat him and do blood work. I informed the vet, that his primary Dr. would have all his medical history and call them to get a copy. There was some progress and he was up a walking gingerly by Monday afternoon. I asked Dr. Wooding to contact his primary vet a coordinate a transfer for treatment and diagnosis. While Max was getting better, there were signs that the "Tech" who was left alone in the office was unqualified to administer medications or had any familiarity with the procedure. At one point on Tuesday, Wooding had to come into the office to repair the jugular I.V. catheter because the tech did not know what to do. She (Dr) seemed bothered and did not even have time to update me on his condition. The bloodwork was inconclusive, and the white count was not rising to normal levels. I planned on taking him home on Friday, and when I visited that morning, he responded to my call by trotting over to me. I took him home at 5 pm with the intent of taking him to his primary Dr. on Saturday morning. That was not to be, at 12:05 a.m., After being lethargic and weak since getting him home and seeing him energetic earlier in the day concerned me. He rose from his bed in the bedroom and relocated, laid down, and in a matter of few seconds, he regurgitated what appeared to be his entire blood supply on the bedroom floor that slowly pooled around his head. I had to get his brothers and mother out because of the contamination. When I picked him up, his head drooped over my forearm, and the exsanguination was complete as the remaining blood drained from him and landed in the pool below us. I did what was necessary and I as the sun slowly rose, He saw his last sunrise. I then covered his face with the shroud and with deep despair, said goodbye. To this day, the Weekend Vet has not told me what he died of. The weeks worth of medicine I was given, I returned, obviously unused or opened, and have yet to be credited. This clinic is a mill, not in the sense of a puppy mill, but a spay, and neuter, vaccine dispensing (ala weekend at a local school county/city-sponsored event), flea and tick meds. It is I regret to my core, not taking Max to San Benito when on Tues or Wens after we walked while he was treated there. That is my burden to bear. read more

I just moved to the area. My dog is sick and my neighbors all told me that weekend vet takes walk ins first thing in the morning if you get there very early and are first in line. I got there at 7AM. They open at 10AM. I was first in line by hours. My dog had just finished a course of medications from the emergency vet in McAllen and is violently vomiting and now has diarrhea. They took my info at 10 when they opened -acted like they would see us then walked to my car window once I returned to my car like they requested and said "sorry we aren't taking walk ins today" I said "it's an emergency" they said "no, sorry. Try McAllen" this is insane. The actual reverse of triage. There were a ton of animals there for regular checkups and vaccine appts. They did not HAVE to be seen in an emergent nature. These "vets" should be ashamed. Where I'm from this is NOT a thing- nobody struggles to get emergency care and this valley seems to not understand how to provide emergency care to the patients that actually need it. *** update. My dog had HGE and is currently hospitalized. Early treatment is important, and my dogs condition progressed very rapidly. These vets would have literally let my 4 year old golden retriever die. He was at their office in bad shape and they declined treatment for a life threatening condition even though I followed all of the "walk in" rules and their own building states they handle emergencies.Something to think about if you're deciding to bring your pets here. read more

The worst place to take your family pets when sick. Seek another vet. I noticed my pet was not her usual self since Saturday. I kept calling the office with no answer so I drove up to their office on Sunday just for them to ask me if my pet had an appointment. I said I had tried to communicate with them since Saturday morning with no success. I was told for sick patient exams she would need an appointment and the only day they had available was July 5. Today is June 19. So my pet would have to be sick for 16 days, that is if she makes it by then, I'll just drive tomorrow to Harlingen. read more

DO NOT take your pet here in the event of an emergency. You will wait hours just to find out if your pet can or cannot be seen. It does not matter if your pet is a regular patient or not, no priority will be given. Apparently vaccinations and spays/neuters are more important than emergencies. read more

Weekend Vet turned away a 4 time cancer patient with an elderly lil chihuahua that needed immediate emergency care. Don't even try it there, they do not care about the animals. If they did the Dr. would stop being greedy and get more help for emergencies. Horrible inconsiderate place!!! read more

Took our dog this morning at 9:45 am since they open at 10:00am. They took our information and told us they would text us later so that we could bring back our sick dog later on today. They told us they had several surgeries this morning but to wait for the text. Well its 5pm and I just called and they said they were not taking in any walk ins today after they said they would call me to take him in. I lost it! Terrible place! read more

No appointment needed according to them, yet I took my puppy in for vaccinations and had to wait more than 2 1/2 hours outside because they were overbooked and never got taken care of. Came back home, and they call if I needed to see the vet. No dumbass, I was there to orders pizza... Terrible service!!! Don't recommend this place at all. read more

I would not take my two dogs anywhere else. Dr. Wooding and her team have a caring and professional culture. There are some reviews here that are negative, but I get the feeling they are not established clients/patients and were walk-ins or new. (She gets a lot of those.) As a client with two furbabies established with them: Yes, the waits are long, but it is worth it every time. The facility is clean, spotless and inviting. It is inspiring to have a female veterinarian with her own clinic. She is fluent in Spanish and hires bilingual individuals. She is committed to making sure all her clients understand. The team is attentive. It DOES get very busy and it can be a delay to get an appointment but once you are an established client/patient, they really do everything they can to serve you as soon as possible. I have always found them able to answer my questions and the staff does get back in touch with you. And - my dogs love her and her team, nothing but tail wags. That says a lot in itself. We've shown up with emergencies and we've done just some basic check ups. I'm always grateful for them. read more

Dog broke his leg over the weekend so called the number after looking at website saying walk-ins accepted for pets needing immediate care. We took him in while I kept calling after supposedly they were open. No answer 20 minutes after opening hours. We arrived and was told that they were booked with appointments and had to drive an hour away to another town.We had just drove 25 miles to get there. They turned us down with our dog IN PAIN. Don't trust them. They don't care. read more
