Has it really been over five years since my last review? Well, I'll cut to the chase: this co-op still rocks. I came in here wanting something fermented and found just what I was looking for: spicy kimchi. I was delighted to see that they have a great selection of fish-free kimchis along with the traditional anchovy and shrimp containing kinds. There's even a local brand that looks intriguing (next time). I also perused the gift section and bought myself a new lunch bag. I admired the gorgeous alpaca items--the hats are fun and they have some of the most gorgeous knots I've ever seen. Don't miss their mittens and gloves: warm, beautiful, and oh-so-functional (you can fold the tops off for extra dexterity!). I also went through the supplements and beauty section and bought some vitamins (I do love my vitamins) and a lip balm. The lip balms here are all really good, and it's easy to find petroleum free if you prefer. All the ones that I looked at were largely plant-based, though many contain beeswax. Very friendly staff and ample parking make this a great place to grab yourself a treat. (While I wasn't shopping for produce today, I love to go through the produce section. They have an excellent selection of everything, including a wide selection of fresh mushrooms and fresh kale that you can't find in most stores. They also have bulk fresh cranberries! It's a great place to let your culinary imagination run wild (and make your dreams come true if you are so inclined). read more

This is my neighborhood co-op, and I love supporting it. This grocery market is the perfect spot for finding specific items of high quality with a minimal ingredient list-label. For example - I am religious about getting my deli turkey meat from here, it has no added sugar and a moderate amount of salt - plus it is from a local farm! I also love that they offer pure stevia in liquid form without unnecessary additives. The tea and coffee selection is SO on point here! I can always find my valerian root tea and others, and I notice the freshness and flavor of the coffee beans when making my french press coffee. The staff here are also always kind and helpful, and this co-op has a nice laid-back neighborhood feel. read more

I happened to be out and about running some errands and needed some magnesium. I search to see what co-op I could find between where I was and were I was heading next. This is were I ended up. If I could have vote to have a standard of what a co-op SHOULD be, THIS PLACE IS IT!!! They had SO many cool things I have never seen at my local co-op, nor many of the other ones I frequent. They had the bulk sections, the beautiful product, dinning seating area, awesome supplement and personal care, lots of cool baby things... All that and the cozy co-op feel that I love. read more

My late wife and I joined Linden Hills Co-op in 1978 when we were renting an upper duplex unit in the neighborhood. We used to regularly volunteer at and buy produce and other goods from the funky, friendly, increasingly cramped old location in the heart of the shopping district. After several moves, the current store was built with a much larger footprint but further West. While one might mourn the loss of a vital institution from the 43rd & Upton hub, the shiny new(er) structure is a huge upgrade and should well serve the community for years to come. Now under a joint operating agreement with another venerable Minneapolis Co-op, The Wedge, LH offers an enormous variety of organic foods, prepared dishes, bulk items and an assortment of carefully selected goods. Go, wander the aisles and you're likely to discover things that you may not have known existed before but become essential additions to your home or life. read more

They always have everything I need! If Trader Joe's doesn't have it, I know my only hope is Linden Hills Co-Op. My only complaint is that the bulk section is a little light. I love to bring my own bags to replenish some of my ingredients, so I do wish they would expand on the bulk section. The produce is excellent! I can always rely on them to provide the freshest, local produce available. I recently picked up heirloom tomatoes and a couple different types of mushrooms I couldn't find anywhere else. I made the most delicious avocado toast with both the tomatoes and mushrooms. So good! They make vegetarian and vegan sandwiches that will blow your mind! The po' boy is perfect! read more

I grew up on Linden Hills Co-op! Absolutely loved it. It was my go-to for everything organic, natural, and local I needed in my life. But times change. The problem is not that this co-op is necessarily bad, the problem is that I was a Lakewinds shopper for a long time. And this is no Lakewinds. And despite my best efforts, I can't help but made direct comparisons. The selection at Linden Hills is tiny. The produce is disappointing. The prices are higher and the sales are less compelling. The staff is standoffish. The hot bar is uninspired. Nobody EVER asks me for my owner number. The parking lot is a nightmare. I regularly can't find a product I need, and there's either nobody around to help or I find someone and they straight up can't help me. It's still my co-op, and I still shop there. And I'm incredibly grateful to have so many co-ops in the Twin Cities! But for me, the magic is gone. read more

Great produce, meat, and seafood selection. Lots of options for vegetarians and vegans. Good prepared foods at food bar, but beware some of the prepared "foods" in plastic containers. My husband purchased something with a very long list of ingredients, some of which I couldn't pronounce. Didn't fit with the natural and organic emphasis of the store. I hope they discontinue these "food" products in the future. read more

My wife and I were all set to get a recommended sandwich at Clancy's Meat and Fish Market in Linden Hills, but it being New Year's Eve, they were closing up early and had no bread left. They are an awesome butcher shop and I picked up some ground Bison Meat (They had Duck Bratwurst, Blood Sausage, ground lamb, all sorts of cool stuff) But I digress. I'll have to get a sandwich there later this week and see what my friend says is the best sub in town tastes like. I still felt like a sandwich to have while watching the Gopher Football team play in the Insight Bowl against Kansas. My wife said there was a Co-op around the corner and that she had been to quite a bit. It is located by a fantastic Famous Dave's and near Lake Harriet. I posed the question whether it had a deli or not and my wife said, "Oh sure." Now, I have never been in a Co-op before and it was well.....different. There were tubs of grain everywhere for bulk purchase and tiny aisles full of real unique items I have never seen before. I saw some Goat's milk, which I hadn't seen since my dad brought some home once when I was a kid. We meandered around the store and ended up at the back of the store with the deli. They had a deep black hummus sampler sitting there, which was amazing and a fill out your own card sandwich making order thing. I ordered the roast beef with cheddar on caraway rye (I ordered Foccacia, but they were out) I also had some mayo and mustard and tomatoes. The staff was truly great, I must have been asked if I had been helped three times while I was waiting for my sandwich. An aside, while we were waiting, a lady actually asked to sample a raw turkey meatball. Really??? Taste a raw turkey meatball? The lady behind the counter seemed aghast, as was I while I wasn't dry heaving. The lady asking for the taste actually seemed offended that the counter lady wouldn't let her taste a RAW turkey meatball. Seriously one of the most awkward and disgusting moments of my 34 years. She actually was getting angry at the counter lady for not letting have a hunk out of a meatball that others would be purchasing. The checkout lady was cordial and wished us a happy holidays and I scurried home to try my sandwich creation. The mustard was lacking, if she even put it on, but the roast beef was plentiful and bread was what you expect. Good cheddar and an overall solid sandwich, nothing special, but nothing to not recommend. Lots of characters in the 10 minutes I was there, but a very cool little grocery store with a solid deli. Linden Hills Co-op is great! I especially love it even more, now that they've combined forces with The Wedge Co-op for better sales/prices. My favorite part of the store is the meat counter. The regulars are known by name & you hear a lot of names called out at the meat counter! Extremely nice & above the call of duty for service! A close 2nd is the health & body care department...wealth of information every time I come in. Overall, I've had nothing but extremely friendly service & experiences each time I come in! This is on top of the obvious reason for shopping here to get cleaner foods than the typical [insert angry words here] "food" out there. read more

In trying to fight my addiction to Amazon, I decided to become a member of the Linden Hills co-op and buy locally. If you become a member of Linden Hills Coop ($80 in stock) you will also be a member of Wedge, they work together. I made the mistake of getting my entire grocery list at Linden Hills co-op, it was over $400. I would say this is more of a specialty store because everything here is free range /organic /fair trade and more expensive. All the employees have been consistently friendly and helpful. I've enjoyed all the chocolate, vitamins, cheeses, herbs, facial lotion, lube (!), and meats (aside for a particularly scrawny rotisserie chicken which I especially didn't think worth the money.) I like that you can donate food to the needy, bag your own groceries in bags you bring from home, and you get one-percent of your purchases back at the end of the fiscal year, July 31st. They have a nice small parking lot and street parking. I've never struggled to find a spot. If you like healthy things and want to try to buy locally, it is a great place to start! read more

This is my go-too grocery. I love the bulk section, the freshly ground peanut butter, the fresh meat, the deli meat, the fish, the cheese, and the prepared foods. I wish they would have a greater selection of deli cheeses, but this is a minor quibble. Pro tips: - Bring a huge container to buy the peanut butter in huge bulk. It is worth it. - You can buy honey in bulk but it pours really slowly. Have your spouse or child get this while you do something more fun. - Bring your own containers for the bulk stuff. Just weigh the containers first so that you don't overpay. What is better than gigantic jars of oatmeal and peanut butter? Nothing. - Make sure that you write the correct number when buying in bulk. I nearly got charged $180 for a small grocery run because I accidentally labeled peanut butter (which I buy in large quantities) with the number for tea leaves. - Convenient plastic bag recycling bins are located near the entrance. read more

I had not ventured into this store for several years and now, have been there twice. It's part of the Linden Hills Coop and I the staff guided me towards compost tea bags. These are like fat tea bags full of organic nutrients that release every time they are steeped or wet. Having resolved to not put chemical fertilizers or pesticides in my garden, these are a great find and so easy to use. Bury it into the soil by a plant and you're done for the rest of the season. They also have other garden stuff, ceramics, books, baby items including cloth diapers of several kinds, cookware, cleaning tools, laundry supplies, etc. The staff is very friendly and it's a great place to browse for unexpected things. read more

This place has really turned around. When I first visited after they opened in the new location, it was just okay. But, things are pretty good now. Everything is really clean, and the employees are all very friendly and helpful. I heard they teamed up with the Wedge, and maybe that did the trick. Whatever it was the changed has made things quite nice. The prices, overall, are pretty good, too. Some things, like milk, are highway robbery, but that's okay. I don't know why anybody would pay $4.50 for a gallon of Schoeder's milk. I just get milk and some other stuff elsewhere. Also, their salted-in-the-shell peanuts are great. I was just in Linden Hills Co-op after a long absence and I was absolutely blown away by the quality of the fresh produce, the butcher shop, the bulk products and the deli. I have been doing my weekly grocery shopping at the Lunds & Byerlys at 50 th and France for many years but I have become more and more unhappy shopping there. In particular the quality of their fresh produce is dismal, the variety and service in the butcher shop has deteriorated, and the service in the deli is often substandard. We do our shopping for produce at the Minneapolis Farmers Market and when Fall forces me back to the super market I feel that I would benefit from anti depressants. After my visit to Linden Hills Co-op life is worth living again. The organic produce is beautiful, they have a real butcher shop with helpful butchers (the beef is grass fed), their seafood looks good, the deli appears superb, and they have a large selection of cheese. The staff are friendly and helpful. They have a lot of bulk items such as nuts, grains, dried fruits, etc. They may not have all of the items I am used to at Lunds & Byerlys but Linden Hills Co-op is my new go to for weekly groceries. read more

I adore this co-op! It's not going to be my my "shoot I need groceries let's buy everything in sight" kinda place, but it's great for those unique and local finds. They have a splendid assortment of bulk items here, definitely a great selection of nuts & grains. They carry many local products, including my fave Bee's Knees honey. I'm always eyeing up their produce, but it tends to be pretty pricey every time I'm in. Their cheese, meat, and salad bar options are pretty nice too. Lots of homemade soup selections & premade options for takeout. I recently tried their vegan chili and it was really good, folks. read more

The Linden Hills Co-op is overpriced, but the quality is high. Both their bulk and their dry goods selection is ridiculous. This is slowly but surely becoming my go to place for hard to find items, especially when making my own laundry detergent, soap etc. The produce is great. I have never seen such color, even in the winter. The best part is how seasonal everything is. My dinner plans go out the window and I plan my food around what looks good that night. If I were to stay in the area, I would get a membership. That would help decrease the cost quite a bit. All in all, great neighborhood place. read more

Linden Hills Co-op is a very useful break from Whole Paycheck. Don't get me wrong, you can still spend a pretty penny here but you also have a lot of good deals on healthy, organic food! As you may have noticed from a few of my other reviews, I am a 3 store type of grocery shopper. The Linden Hills Co-op is perfect for a few things: bulk grains & food, cheese, drinks (such as kombucha) and some meat options. Overall, highly recommend the Linden Hills Co-op. If you're looking for a variety of plant-based takeout entrees, look elsewhere. I counted three options. Even their tempeh Mexican salad (strangely) had cheese. Also, plant-based/vegan options aren't mark as such. Their deli manager needs to get with the times. Sad. It has the best organic vegetables and fruits, the best delhi in town, best home made soups (african peanut soup) my favorite . I'll give this place 4 stars. 2 of the stars come from the generally decent selection of meat, cheese, and organic and healthy stuff -1 star for the jacked up parking situation, yes it's pretty lame. +3 additional stars simply because they took over this space from a Super Value, which is about the lowest level grocery store experience you could imagine, given the location. I've been going to this Co Op for 10 years now. Since they joined up with The Wedge Co Op they are much cheaper. Who ever does the hiring should be fired. Half of the staff is indifferent or rude. But a few actually are friendly and will say hello first and offer to help. The produce section is fantastic! As is the soup bar. Always 7 soups and 3 vegan. The hot bar is sad. Very often the dishes are old and dried up. Who is responsible?? Someone needs to be spoken to about this. I'm a member and I'm ashamed. And the hot bar is sooo expensive. There are containers out front of the store for recycling plastic bags. That is great!! Thank you. I also refill my water containers here. Thank you. read more

We are trying to do a better job of eating locally-produced and organic foods, so Linden Hills Coop is at least a 2 or 3 times a month stop. Not as much selection as Whole Foods, but it just feels more local and authentic. Plenty of fresh and local produce, and a good selection of bulk items (including spices!). Decent salad bar and selection of prepared foods / salads. The meat/seafood counter folks are always super helpful. They order daily from Coastal, so if we ever have specific seafood requests, like mussels, we can call in and usually that night we can get exactly what we wanted. One beef with them is that I wish they had more paper bags for produce and bulk items, and more cardboard containers for the prepared salads. I should just get used to bringing my own containers, but I would think a coop would want to reduce plastic usage more than the average store. Bonus, they are across the street from France 44, so if I time my shopping right, I can stop across the street for an afternoon wine tasting after I hit the grocery store. read more

I live here. I pick up all my groceries here. It's a fantastic store that has very little junk food (stay away from the potato chips). Fresh organic produce that they even wash before it's put out. I love dropping in every other day to pick up fresh food for dinner and sandwiches. It's a small store so you don't get tired or frustrated trying to get what you need and get home. I'm a happy member and love my neighborhood co-op. You should really look into supporting your co-op too! The food is fresh, local, and organic. It's a little pricier than the big box stores but it's exactly the same price as Lund's. I love this place. read more

I love this little co-op and I'm there about once a week. They have a good selection of specialty items and if asked, they do listen when they don't have something - I asked specifically about young coconuts and within a few months they appeared in the produce section! The staff are very friendly and interact with you in a personable way. The only reason this didn't get five stars is because some items are placed for sale without a price and when I'm shopping I don't really want to hunt down someone to tell me how much it is. (It's always the Really Expensive items, too - I've made that mistake twice now!!) read more

I beat the price heat by running through the aisles and only buying what's on sale. Also, I'm a member, so I grab the member coupons. All told my damage is the same as it is at Kowalskis, but only when I do this. Also veggies/fruits are limited - do like old europeans do and buy whatever looks good and let that dictate your dinner, don't go in with a plan. read more

Delightful. I was a littel skeptical going into the Coop as I'm not the typical "green" coop guest. LH Coop was on my way home, and just needing to pick up a few things decided to stop in. Love it! On the whole this place is a little spendier than what I would like, but probably not too different than Whole Foods. They have a really nice selection of premade soups and salads, and I was really impressed by their assortment of Great Harvest breads and pastries! I won't be going here too oftern for the sheer fact that I like it too much that a larger % of my disposable income will be going toward fancy organic food, but i'm a fan! read more

Cute little co-op. I live no where near here, so I would never be a member, but I did drive all the way across town to grab a few jars of PB2, which is an amazing powdered peanut butter. While we were here, there was some local farmer sampling going on, which was pretty cool. The store itself is really neat and clean. I was pretty impressed by all of the cool products they had towards the back of the store, both for kids and adults. Lots of gear to pack your own lunches in a green way. read more

Very nice building in their new location off of 44th and France! Beautiful produce section and the bulk of the store could easily be compared to the new Seward or Lakewinds Co-op locations. The real gem at LHC is the community room. It is used for cooking classes and as a community meeting room that can be reserved. As for cooking class facility the one thing missing is being able to see what is being prepared, there is no mirror or video system, so everyone has to gather near the cooking island to be able to see what is happening. Hopefully that will change in the near future! Cooking class prices are among the best in town. Earlier this week I took a Thai class hosted by the Gai Gai Thai guy (Kris) and really enjoyed the experience. The price of the class was under $20 and included samples of the food (class discounts are available if you are a member of any of the Twin Cities co-ops). Friendly, knowledgeable staff can provide insight into how to select various fruits and veggies to some new ways to cook the food you're buying. They remember people week to week and appear to love their work. The produce is fantastic. It's important to note that if you are going there with specific fruits and veggies you want to leave with, that you may either go home without them or you will pay an arm and a leg. They have reasonable prices for organic, quality produce but items that are out of season can be very expensive (especially the berries). Do what frequent shoppers do, which is be flexible and try new foods. If you currently buy specialty foods (organic, soy, gluten-free, etc), I find that the co-op is often cheaper than big-box or high-end grocery stores. I don't eat dairy so I buy vegan butter. The co-op sells it for $1.00 to $2.50 cheaper than other stores with the exception of Whole Foods. Most notable items: bulk spices so you can only get a tablespoon or get cups worth; good prices on vegan products; fresh and unusual produce; incredible staff. Downsides: some items very expensive; some products (esp produce) may not be available; other than their Rustica bread, the bakery could be improved read more

Didn't think it was possible to be more expensive than WFM. Srsly. The coolest thing here is that you can weigh and print your own labels for the bulk section, which is by far the biggest and baddest bulk section I've ever seen anywhere in the world ever. and I mean that. read more
