Save yourself the hassle of doing business with Thomaston Savings Bank. They dropped the ball with…read moreour new home build and mortgage in MULTIPLE ways, and are holding us to a higher standard than both their online banking system, and their customer service department. Our issues arose from a "back-end fee glitch" (their words) that appeared on our mortgage statement. I called Thomaston Savings Bank to clarify what amount to pay (as our payments were variable) and paid the amount I was told a week before it was due. Unfortunately the amount I was told to pay by the bank representative was short $120, (which was our estimated escrowed taxes). I didn't know this until another representative called me on the 31st of the month to report the short payment and ask if she could pull the remaining funds from our savings, which I of course gave permission and thanked her for alerting me. A few weeks later I found out that mine and my husbands' 15 year perfect credit score had dropped 130 +/- points due to a "late payment" to Thomaston Bank. We paid early, but since it was short the $120 which was paid at the end of the month instead of the beginning, the whole payment was deemed late. I thought this would be an easy thing to clear up since the issue arose from a "backend fee glitch" with the bank's website appearing on our mortgage statement, and then the teller giving us the incorrect amount to pay when we called to clarify. I was wrong. Thomaston Savings Bank is refusing to remove the late payment from our 15+ years of perfect credit. They are claiming it was ultimately our responsibility to pay the correct amount DESPITE it appearing incorrectly in their portal due to the fee "glitch", and additionally being told the incorrect amount by their representative. Another kicker is that they are claiming they did their due diligence by alerting us via postal mail of this issue. We were having our mail forwarded due to being in the process of moving and getting a mailbox installed at our new build. Thomaston Savings Bank apparently does not forward mail and does not alert their customers of this fun fact. They have it on record that their warning letter bounced back to them 10 days before our account was going to be delinquent. Not a single person called to tell us that they had our mail, or that the bank doesn't forward mail. They also refused to meet with me in person to discuss the issue. Completely unprofessional and unfortunate. We wanted to go with a local bank for our home build and now will take all subsequent business elsewhere. Save yourself the headache of doing business with this bank.

If you are Divorced, going through a divorce, and/or a victim of Domestic Violence, beware of…read moreBanking with this Bank. I have been divorced for over a year and a victim of Domestic violence from that marriage. In our Divorce Agreement signed by the Supreme Court, we were to maintain a joint account for the purpose of paying the mortgage and utilities until he signs the house over to me. A few months ago he lost his job and income and apparently had accrued overdraft fees in his own personal account. The bank took MY money out of the joint account earmarked to pay bills with, and paid off my ex husband's overdrafts. Now I can't pay my electricity bill which that money was to go towards, and I may have my electricity shut off. I am partially disabled and have some serious chronic health conditions including breathing issues when sleeping which require a Cpap and could stop breathing if I don't have electricity to run my machine. I contacted the bank explaining that I am not financially or legally responsible for any of my ex husband's debts and explained the divorce agreement signed by Supreme Court regarding why we still have 1 joint account together. They have decided they were well within their Rights to take my money to pay off HIS debts just because his name was on the account. I trusted this bank with my money and they're using it to pay off my abuser's debts to the bank. From my perspective this is theft, from the bank victimizing someone who's already in a bad situation and giving my hard earned money to someone who's already abused me. And they asked me if I could ask my ex to pay me back? Do abusers usually pay back their victims? No. There was no compassion, no consideration for a victim, they only care about their policies and getting their owed money no matter who they have to take it from. I will be reporting this to all legal services I already work with, as well as to our State Representative, and notifying our local Domestic Abuse services that I've sought help with telling them to warn other Domestic Violence victims to be careful of banking with an institution that has no problem taking their money and paying of their abusers accounts if needed. I'll be alerting PR and Media as I feel this grave injustice needs to be publicized so that our community can be aware of the immoral and unjust treatment of bank customers who have already been victimized and now victimized again by bank polices that allows the bank to seize your money to pay off an abuser's debts to the bank.

Tannith is the assistant manager I believe and the woman in charge of opening accounts. She's wonderful and treated us like family. It's totally free banking which is awesome because I don't think I should pay an account to keep my money safe when fraudulent charges has happened a few times in the past. Hats off to you Ion Bank.

Advise don't put your HSA account(s) with this bank use BOA if you're a small business owner. Last…read moreyear on April 14 I wired $5000 into my wife's HSA account at ION. The wire transfer clearly stated it was a 2014 prior year deposit. Little did I know, until yesterday, ION doesn't "read wire transfers" and only deposits them for current year. As a result I can now only add $1750 to her account due to IRS limits. And ION refused to correct the issue and send the IRS an amended docs. Fortunately, I kept proof of the wire memo in BOAs system to show IRS if needed down the road. When I called BOAs HSA dept they were stunned. BOA customer service rep, who has worked for BOA, for 7 years, they said they make HSA corrections all the time and file amended forms to IRS and customer within 3 days. I informed my NML health insurance provider since he recommended the no service bank.

The first two times I visited the bank, I needed something notarized. I was told to take a seat and I would be helped. Despite no additional customers entering the bank between the time I entered and the entire time I waited, I was left sitting for over 20 minutes. Feeling abandoned and forgotten both times, I went to the UPS store across the street. I now don't bother considering Thomaston Savings Bank for my notary needs. Most recently, I came in, wearing my work uniform, with one dollar and asked for 2 rolls of pennies. Nothing crazy, just 2 rolls. Why did I ask for these rolls? Because the manager at my workplace was on vacation and left us without pennies by mistake. Since Thomaston Savings Bank is very close to my workplace, and because it's even closer to home, I figured I'd stop by on my way to work. I didn't even get to explain the importance of my work emergency (and how my work's bank is the next town over and how I have no vehicle or way to get there), because I was sternly informed that was a service for their customers only. It was disheartening, considering how they *seem* like a community bank, and how a request for 2 rolls of pennies in an extenuating circumstance is an extremely low risk transaction, with an opportunity to gain both a new customer, and let the person know that Thomaston Savings Bank is a helpful member of the community. These three experiences caused me to no longer consider starting a relationship with this bank, despite how temptingly close it is to my home, despite how fancy the atm machine is, nor how bright and welcoming the facility seems. It's kinda a shame, but I don't like feeling ignored and turned away by my community bank. In the end, another bank in the area happily exchanged my dollar for 2 rolls of pennies. So it's not like a bank *couldn't* do it for a non-customer, it's just Thomaston Savings Bank *won't* do it for a non-customer.
