Seems, the last 5 years or so - a live on stage production does the Switcharoo.All the students (kids)do the producing,directing,choreograph, lights camera and action. All the actors are Adults (playing kids rolls) As in this noted production. A first for us, and a brief questioning of um confusion in seeing, an older gentleman playing the High School all around jock. Ahh I get it (after it was explained to me!) All nicely done, very entertaining, much comradery, appreciation and thank yous said and a particularly high energy spirit in the audience. (see pix) Seems that the lead performer was hospitalized for needed heart surgery and the stand in did so on short notice performed beautifully. They even had a collection for the Heart association. The evening before, on Friday there were some different actors and performers and crew putting on the show. Some were in the audience on Saturday. One young man named Joe, along with friends, sat behind us and were doing the dance moves. Others in the audience were clapping, and cheering their approval with much positive energy. Seeing it all and taking it in, it was a refreshing change and overall, it was, FUN.

A small school, there were only maybe 25 students in our class, and very little turnover, so it provided nice continuity and the ability to establish close friendships for 9 years. The building and classrooms were well maintained. Of course, back in that stone age there was not as much emphasis on computers, so I can't speak to the resources they have today in that area. I very much enjoyed my teachers, and the quality of the education was decent, although I would say it was severely lacking in STEM resources, music, and athletic programs. This may have changed. Although it was a Catholic school, non-Catholic students attended, which might have been difficult for them given that there is a big connection between the school and the church which adjoins it--lots of masses, sacramental preparation, etc. Even though I am not Catholic, I thought that the discussions about morality that took place in the school gave me a strong ethical orientation which I appreciate. As far as the student body, it was not diverse, but at the time the area wasn't very diverse, so hopefully more integration has taken place since then. All this to the side, as a child I loved this school, and I now have a PhD, so maybe loving school is the most important thing.

As a parent, you will always feel safe knowing that your kids have certified, caring teachers surrounding them. The kids even take swim lessons and reach American Red Cross levels of safety and skill. You also will not realize you are even in Merrick or Long Island for that matter once you enter the sprawling, wooded campus! We are very grateful to MW !!!!!

But setting aside for a moment what a Long Island University degree means in the working world, the simple experiences I had enjoyed as a student will stay with me forever. The majority of the teachers and department heads that really took a genuine interest in each student that was willing to show up for classes, take the exams and submit the necessary assigned assignments. The Newman Group where we prepared food for the poor and I drove the LIU van into Manhattan to distribute them and many other such acts of charitable giving. Having been to many NY campuses at other Universities, CW POST really is one of the top in terms of nature, architecture and working with the land. The 330 acres that were given to LIU by the POST family, yes the cereal people which now is a part of Kraft have some of the most impressive buildings in the uber wealthy community of Old Brookille. Marjorie POST was married to E.F. Hutton, remember him? "When E.F. Hutton speaks, people listen" it was a catch phrase for the E.F. Hutton Investment banking service which to my knowledge exists. Lorber Hall where many of the accounting classes occur have a nonfunctional fireplace in each classroom. With so many more examples I will not list it is worth a trip to walk the arboretum which has such a variety ot trees, or the nature maze and the semi newly erected Pratt Center. It's heartbreaking to witness, especially from a Catholic school that is supposed to be built on honoring Christ in every way. This isn't just about a statue, it's about reverence. That memorial is meant to reflect the love, sacrifice, and presence of Jesus, yet it's consistently neglected. For a school that carries His name, this lack of care sends a message that directly contradicts the values it claims to teach. When something so symbolic is left in that state, and when attempts to bring attention to it are met with cold and dismissive attitudes, it raises a serious concern: Are we really honoring Him the way we should? A Catholic school should be a living reflection of Christ, in its words, its actions, and even in the way it tends to something as sacred as His image. This is not written out of criticism, but out of a deep hope that someone in leadership will take this seriously. The professors for the most part were interesting and inspirational. There is so much history here at JTS and yet the 2002 renovation of the Tower brought a lot of innovation to the Seminary as well with computer labs and other high tech opportunities. The dining hall which is run by Flik International makes delicious food and fleishig (meat) day was always a treat. JTS is the flagship academic institution of the Conservative Movement and it's very deserving of that lofty title.
