I had my heart set on this daycare for my son. I researched dozens of centers before narrowing it down to this one. I want that on the record, because I did not walk in looking for problems.
Over two days I spoke with three different staff members, including the Director. Ask the same question three times, get three different answers. The phone lines don't work. The Director is always "in a meeting and unavailable" -- unfortunate, since she appears to be the only person who can quote a price, and prices and discounts seem to be set at her discretion. On my tour I was told one thing about multiple-child households. The next day, I was told something different.
At one point I called and asked, specifically, not to be disconnected or given another "we'll call you back in five minutes." They'd promised that same five minutes two hours earlier, then called and I missed it by three minutes. I called right back. The Director was in a meeting.
Then I was informed that the staff member handling my call told her [Director] that I was angry about not getting a call back. That is not what I said. I said I'd been given the run-around and would like to be connected, please. And the Director magically became available.
Thats not even the best part -
On my tour I was told this is a positive-feedback center. No time-outs. No hitting. Their words.
While I was standing there, a child sat in the lobby on time-out, not allowed back into the classroom. And I watched a teacher hit another child over the head with a rolled-up paper.
They told me it doesn't happen while it was happening in front of me.
I withdrew my application.
They will tell you what you want to hear, and they get an attitude with anyone who questions it. If that's what they do with a parent standing in the room, ask yourself what the rest of the day looks like.
