Two days of chilling in Knox and I spent them tuned in to WIMZ. I was able to tune in from…read moreSevierville as I crossed over into town. "Enter Sandman" by Metallica "(You Gotta) Fight For Your Rights" by the Beastie Boys "Simple Man" by Lynyrd Skynyrd "Bad Company" "Hard To Handle" by the Black Crowes The only DJ I heard was George McFly but the morning John Boy and Billy show was mildly funny at times and slightly condescending at others. Great tunes, not an excessive number of commercials. I'd find them again. [Review 1179 of 2024 - 495 in Tennessee - 22202 overall]

Honestly, I listen to this station on the way to work each day…read more George McFly is the DJ, he's upbeat, and wee bit strange, which I like! And I believe actually a pussy cat, at heart! It is by far not the best station I have listened to! And it barely scratches the surface of bands that have rocked in the 60's and NOW up and coming! ( I miss that fresh talent, that more upbeat together stations deliver) Haha, I love the original rockers, not bubble gum , and the fresh new rockers who need a platform. Many times, the exact same tune is playing at the same time the next day! When making my 1 hour journey to work, shame on you all! One thing that is awesome,is, those faithful listeners that love the time warp. Change is good, so I would ask them to incorporate the Frank Zappa goodies, Captain Beef Heart, &, the Grateful Dead goodies, Black Oak Arkansas, Cream, Doors,Sweat Hog, Uriah Heap,etc... all that inspired the era. Rock is rock, and there were so many awesome folks you all leave out, shameful not to include! This is why,3 stars, you play good ones but not all there is, haha you do not even scratch the surface! This station has its faithful following and each area of the country has its fav bands. I like heavy metal also, past and present!

WUOT demonstrates near-antipathy to local input. The station's leadership is mysterious, opaque,…read moreand condescending--totally out of touch with the community they claim to serve. Good thing other NPR stations are available.

WUOT is the local NPR outlet in the mid-East Tennessee region. Unlike many broadcast stations…read moreaffiliated with a university, WUOT exhibits excellent broadcast techniques, and is managed in a very professional manner. The station's air time is rigidly formatted, which gives a stilted feel to both on air personalities and play lists. On-air programming is rather limited, especially in the 'regional flavor' genre, and (as a percentage of air-time) is generally limited to 'classical' and jazz mediums. Personally, I'd enjoy a little less opera during summer weekends, and a bit more regional/local commentary and music. A 'nod' granted toward non-traditional or Americana programs is offered during a few hours on Saturday evenings. A comedy show is re-run on Sunday afternoons, replacing locally produced offerings, which has increased the overall 'bland/canned' nature of the station's programming. Despite cries of funding shortages, the station has opened new broadcast avenues, which would seem to have the effect of further increasing funding obligations. Their broadcast signal quality and range has eroded since the implementation of the digital medium. WUOT enjoys popularity in this region due to a lack of competition within the listening tastes that it has selected to serve. If one's tastes fall within that narrow parameter, then one will be very satisfied with their offerings. Luckily for the rest of us, Pandora, as well as various alternative satellite offerings, and I-40/75 quickly whisks us away into a 'full-ranged' world of listening experiences.
