Administration is so focused on having an attitude they can't even give a competent answer.

This is one of the worst, (and most overpriced) colleges anywhere. Dealing with this University has…read morebeen a nightmare. I believe that the administration is absolutely corrupt, and 25 years after I graduated with a B.A., they started sending me bills for loan that was paid back right after graduation by my parents as a graduation gift. Since I obviously don't have financial records from the 1980s, I have been battling with them about this for over a decade. It has been an absolute nightmare, to say the least! Please, please, if you are considering this school, RUN, don't walk, to another school. Academically you can do SO MUCH BETTER for the money!!

A good university to say the least. I have visited here time and time again, thanks to my wife…read moreattending a Phd program here. The school is located midtown and has a safe feeling to it thanks to the campus police. The parking lots are huge but have had troubles to get in without a student card being available. Also the open parking lot isn't available for everyone specially for overnight parking. Didn't know that once and got a ticket. The road side parking is not free either, but is reasonable around $1/hr and if you download the Park Detroit app, it's about $1.15 for the same hour. The fines used to be reasonable about a year ago being $10 max, which has now gone upto $45 which is ludicrous. Looks like many suffer to this as the parking officer keeps on making rounds quite regularly. A great amount of restaurants and fast food options are available in and around the campus. Some have appeared recently, which I believe has made the area a bit more classy and busy. La Feria my personal favorite along with Chartreuse (a bit expensive side). There is food for one and all, as the Seva covers great option for vegans and vegetarians. A mix of history and architecture with new and old buildings alike. A new tram service and rails are in the plans as you see work carried on Woodward. Easy access to I-75, M-10 and I-94 makes it easy to connect to all the Detroit suburbs, including the Bridge to Canada on I-96 which is about 3 miles away and tunnel to Canada which is about 4 miles south on M-10. The on-campus living is decent with Deroy and Chattsworth apartments based on campus have reasonable prices and availability throughout each semester. They do get filled up fast so you want to make sure you reach out them or seniors transferring lease ASAP. Chattsworth is a bit old building and doesn't have centralized AC, on the other hand, Deroy gives you this luxury with a bit more cost and options of furnished apartments. There are dorms for undergraduate students available as well, which I don't know much about but a thing to look into. Quality education specially in Biological Science department as my wife graduated recently and has got a fair deal of biological science experience here. Good and helpful professors and guide makes it easy for students to get a direction towards success in life. All in all a very good place to be in. There is a bit of trouble on campus sometimes with crime, and an occasional noise problem during the night time, which can keep you awake (Deroy). If you ignore that, this is not a bad place to get your education started.

Based on my personal experience, I caution others to be aware of how this institution operates. I believe the school engages in practices that take unfair financial advantage of students and treats them with a lack of professionalism and respect. Students who question certain policies or decisions--particularly those from a Black background--risk being ignored, disconnected from classes, or otherwise frustrated in their studies. In my case, after OSAP had already paid for all my program courses as outlined, I was unexpectedly told I needed to pay an additional fee for one course. When I asked why this extra payment was necessary, instead of receiving a clear explanation, I was withdrawn from the program entirely. I believe this action violated my rights as a student and raises serious concerns about discrimination and retaliation. I share this not only to report my own experience but also to warn others to carefully consider their options before enrolling in this institution.

There's a lot of new development in the area with plenty of restaurants and businesses. The Student Union Building is newly constructed and it is quite spacious! Includes the President's Suite, Finance Office, Computer Lab and multiple meeting and study rooms, which are available for rental. It was very quiet and the staff and students are super helpful. There is plenty of free parking and signage to guide visitors around the campus. Clean restrooms with seating and artwork. Vending machines and plenty of open space to lounge, hang out, or study. Signage and branding are on point. It was great to visit and see all the wonderful changes!

That I can't blame the university for, there's a lot of people with the Detroit Mercy degree, that are doing extremely well and I'm very proud of them. The professors I give them mixed review. This is back in the early to mid 90s. There was a psychology professor Sheila Clyne- Jackson, she was a horrible professor and did not even do her job properly. However, she got to keep her job. I think she was from Windsor Ontario. There were other professors in the psychology department like Dr. Bernard, I forgot his last name. He was an outstanding professor. There were professors in the English department, Professor Crabtree, that I learned a lot from, and she was great!
