I had a local moving company that my family used for years, but the owner retired and sold the business, so I was looking. And looking. Turns out two large moving companies in Jamestown went out of business in a short time. Up against a deadline, I was blindly calling with little success. I was worried I'd end up having to get somebody from Erie or Buffalo, or some amateurs. Then I called Dan's. Lo and behold...somebody answered the phone! And not just somebody, but a very nice and professional person who took appropriate information about my moving needs and said she'd get back to be shortly with a quote. And she did! It was a very reasonable quote and I asked about availability for a specific date. She said it looked good, but wanted to confirm with the dispatcher and would call back. And I got a call back a couple hours later to confirm my preferred date and time and the locations. Boom, all in one day, after a week of calling around. On moving day, the gentlemen arrived promptly at the specified time, were courteous and professional, carefully loaded and unloaded quickly and efficiently, and when I paid the bill, it came in under the estimate because it took about an hour less than estimated. My parents are building a house and will need movers in a few months and will also be calling Dan's. I was so pleased with the service and professionalism and would happily use Dan's again. Please, do yourself a favor and call Dan's! Why don't people in WNY Yelp? Anywho, in the last month, Dan's has moved my parents and me (again!). This time (for me) a long-distance move with a stop near the pick-up, a storage unit near the drop off and So Much Stuff. On time, super professional and friendly. Loading and the first stop took 9 hours in a 105 degree heat index (yes, I got water and tipped well)...such troopers, always super mice and professional. I hope to stay put for a while, but if/when I move again, I know who I'll call!

This time, knowing that I had the stairs from hell, a very large refrigerator, icy, snowy sidewalks to contend with, and my new destination being 40 miles away, I decided to use a u-haul and movers. Plus the fact that I wanted to save Dad's back. This move was a little unexpected. I needed to move back to my parents house to help take care of my mom after she gets out of the hospital, where she has been for the last 55 days and will continue to be for a few more weeks. I packed my belongings into two categories, things to go to the house and things to go into storage. One of the more organized packing jobs I have ever done. I called on a Friday afternoon and they had time for me the next day...worked perfect for my days off. Two guys showed up, walked up the stairs, introduced themselves and commented on the narrow stairs, awkward door openings and the lovely 90 degree turn half-way down the stairs. I explained what needed to get loaded first, and they began. They got the fridge down first, thanking us for kindly taking doors off hinges, and removing the fridge doors, a tight squeeze, but we got it up there, so we knew it would go down. Next went the mattress and box-spring, and the insanely tall headboard I own. They loaded everything on the truck, secured it all, and did this in 45 minutes never once complaining about the awful stairs, and without damaging anything. I believe this was the best money I have ever spent. They charge $70/hr with a 15 min destination charge to the location and back. I would have paid twice that. I gave both gentlemen a very large tip, they thanked me for my business and went on their way. I would highly recommend this company. Moving is a stressful time, and they took a lot of the burden off my shoulders.

I think better communication before the fact would have solved these issues.
