I definitely don't get the fanfare of this spot. The service is quick half open air restaurant with tables in the garden area. This spot is also cash only . They have a large variety of tacos. We opted for 4 tacos each we ordered 6 but they ran out of some of the tacos and that was that . No offer to change. It is known as a spot for breakfast and lunch tacos at cheap prices. We had chicken cilantro tacos , potato and chorizo, eggs with longaniza , bean and chorizo , pork asado, cochinita pibil. The meats seemed not fresh the tacos were not hot at all. All of the meat was precooked in casualas next to the grill . I guess for 1.40 USD for a taco you can't expect much . Based on the recommendations we felt obligated to try. This was a definite one and done for us. We had better tacos in Merida . 16 USD 276.00 pesos. This spot closes early mid afternoon so get there early if you wish ! read more

We went just before they closed, not great timing on our end. Nice restaurant, seating was semi outdoors, plenty of fans so it wasn't miserable and a roof to keep the rain off of you. Super friendly service. The tacos were so good we ordered more, we got to 15 and would have ordered more, but we ate them out of tortillas! read more

If you want a simple plain breakfast sandwhich with nothing special - it's perfect. Don't ask for milk for your coffee, or anything. Server was busy so a nice young cook came out and took our order. He's asked the kitchen if ok for adding some cheese, which was yes. Toasting a roll with butter was a no. Known for their castakan (fried pork belly) which I HIGHLY suggest. This is definitely a local spot and it was fun eating with the locals. We tried a few things and had three juices and left full for less than $10 (USD). The pork was my personal favorite. I had it in a taco but you can get the meats in tacos, tortas and something else. Delicious egg tacos on soft tortillas. The Chaya tacos with eggs were to die for. So fluffy and flavorful. The pork belly torta with egg and with cheese were also delicious. This place is the real deal and we came here many times while we stayed in Mérida. The staff were gracious and while most didn't speak English we were able to communicate what we wanted easily. The only place I repeated in my 8-day long first time trip to Mexico. Why? Because it was the best damn food we had in 5 cities! ( Yes we saw 5 cities in 8 days!) We basically tried "one of everything" on our tacos, which was great.But the torta is just magical. The bread/bun is toasted to a golden crisp, and the meat is perfect. Quite like nothing I've ever had. I keep comparing Chicago-pilsen places to it but they don't match. It is cheap, quickly delivered and the owner is super friendly. I really enjoyed this place, and wish I could come back to try more food! But we were on our way out of Merida and came here for a quick breakfast. The host, who looked a little like Ernest Hemingway, was so adorable and welcoming, and put up with me practicing my Spanish. :) My husband and I ordered all egg-based tacos and really liked them all. He tried the chaya, xcatic peppers (not hot at all), and acelga (another green veggie). I had chaya and nopales, which were absolutely delicious. We also had a couple of aguas frescas--orange and mango. Everything was good and so affordable. I know he'd want to come back and try all the meat, and I'd want a fried fish taco. When we were looking for a quick bite to eat on our way out of Mérida, we stumbled across this place, noticed it had good reviews, and decided to stop by. Since there were few people in the restaurant and I didn't see exactly what I was looking for, I decided to pass and eat somewhere else. My girlfriend on the other hand chose to get a couple tacos. Upon tasting one of them, I immediately came back and attempted to order exactly what she got. Although it was too late and that specific dish was no longer available, I chose something else and it almost seemed like it tasted even better than what my girlfriend got. We had kind of a "cheeburger, cheeburger" experience here, with most of the menu not being available and having part of an order brought out while being informed that they ran out of what has ordered. My husband ordered 3 bean tacos. He was brought 1 and told there were no more beans. One of my daughters ordered chorizo tacos. She was brought nothing and when we asked about her food, we were told they were out of what she ordered. This might be our favorite place to eat in all of Merida. Everything you've read so far is true... The one thing we've never encountered was any wait time at all to get a table. They're only open for breakfast and lunch -- so plan ahead! You'll never get as wide a selection or as tasty a taco anywhere else. The service is great - very friendly and very fast.
