Pork belly, chicken fajita, and chicken and poblano peppers tacos.
Tim P.

Came for lunch on a Friday afternoon. The place was mostly empty. We were disappointed that they have a covid menu that limits the choices. We were looking forward to the empanadas. We got the pork belly, chicken and poblano peppers, and the chicken fajita tacos. They were all good. They bring three salsas to put on the tacos. Good dining experience.

This place is so good we had to go twice during our stay !! Please please please go here. We had pork belly tacos and a special kind of pork. The second time we got the same meet in tortas. I would recommend speaking a little Spanish because every worker only spoke Spanish . Incredible service and incredible food . Make sure to get a drink ! The horchata was amazing and not to sweet !

We really liked this off the beaten path taco restaurant. With over a dozen taco and torta selections on the menu it was hard to narrow down our choices. We went with 2 pork and 2 beef selections each and they were all delicious! We live in Meida and this is one of my favorite taco places, I just wish it was closer to my house!\

Known for their castakan (fried pork belly) which I HIGHLY suggest. This is definitely a local spot and it was fun eating with the locals. We tried a few things and had three juices and left full for less than $10 (USD). The pork was my personal favorite. I had it in a taco but you can get the meats in tacos, tortas and something else. This is a hidden gem for visitors especially.

Ok. This is worth going back too again! You can ask for an English menu. The tacos were delicious I will go back to try more

Delicious egg tacos on soft tortillas. The Chaya tacos with eggs were to die for. So fluffy and flavorful. The pork belly torta with egg and with cheese were also delicious. This place is the real deal and we came here many times while we stayed in Mérida. The staff were gracious and while most didn't speak English we were able to communicate what we wanted easily. Definitely a must eat in Mérida!!

Breakfast! Eggs with various veggies: Chaya, acelga, xcatik, nopales. Yum!

I really enjoyed this place, and wish I could come back to try more food! But we were on our way out of Merida and came here for a quick breakfast. The host, who looked a little like Ernest Hemingway, was so adorable and welcoming, and put up with me practicing my Spanish. :) My husband and I ordered all egg-based tacos and really liked them all. He tried the chaya, xcatic peppers (not hot at all), and acelga (another green veggie). I had chaya and nopales, which were absolutely delicious. We also had a couple of aguas frescas--orange and mango. Everything was good and so affordable. I know he'd want to come back and try all the meat, and I'd want a fried fish taco. Oh well, next time!

If you're looking for a place that serves the region's largest variety of taco options, this place…read moreis probably it. We had to visit multiple times to take in those options, and we can also say that their tortillas are among the best, namely because they are built to contain those fillings, unlike others that are simply not quite up to the task. Here are a few tips that we'd like to pass on from what we've learned: - The Lomitos offering is one of the best, bursting with flavor and smokiness. I think it's often overlooked, so definitely grab one of these. - The Lechon, Cochinita, and "Pork Belly" are all great, flavorful and juicy. You can't really go wrong with these, though the "Pork Belly" may not be what you expect, so read on. - The Castacan is the crunchy skin and pork belly that most Westerners think of, so if you're looking for that experience, this is your taco. - The Asado Yucateco (beef) is solid, but a little dry. Pork options are going to dominate it. - The artisanal cerveza is a great pairing with their tacos. If you are a beer snob, it's worth the extra cost. - We think you can pass on the queso fundido. It was more of a cheese blob than what we prefer in a fundido. Plenty of tacos to placate your hunger, so this can be a pass. - The light brown salsa is great, with excellent flavor. The small, dark brown salsa is a tongue-melter, so proceed with caution. I'm a pepper belly, but that salsa probably overwhelmed the great taco flavors, so just know that. Overall, a great place to get the variety and explore it. Seating was comfortable, and service was efficient, though not very chatty. They can get busy at times, which just speaks to the popularity of a well done taco. If you follow the given advice, you may have more of a 5-star experience. We had some of the misses, so you don't have to, though part of the fun is your own exploration. Buen gusto!

It's enchanting at night watching the lighted towers of the old cathedral standing watch over the Merida night sky...sitting at a candle lit table with cool Yucatan breezes blowing. It's a far remove from the hustle and bustle of the narrow, crowded downtown streets and the lively plaza. I ordered a pumpkin seed-based salsa which was prepared table side in a stone vessel. My friend ordered the grilled fish with rice, pickled carrots, onions and sauces. Both were delicious. We also had nice drinks, red wine sangria, and beer. What was perhaps the best feature of the place is the excellent waitstaff who are bilingual, who are helpful with making you feel comfortable, who provide charming conversation and tips, and who are generally well trained in hospitality. Such a far cry from the dour and arrogant wait staff typically found in Washington DC restaurants. This is a good place for a quiet escape from the plaza crowd.
